SELENA’S REVIVAL

With the fourth installment of his popular sexy gay romanceadventure-drama novel series, author Jake Biondi talks to us about how it all began as well as the very ripe potential of the trials and tribs of his characters making it to the small screen.

Selena Gomez may be best known as a Disney girl and as a sidekick to her famous boyfriends and that bestie Taylor, but with a frankness and talent apparent in this interview, her “Revival” album release may mean she’s coming into her own.

MovembeR is here! Gay men and straight men team up to grow month-long handlebars, Ron Swansons and other moustaches all month long to help raise awareness against male cancers. by Dustin Shrader

F

or all the bros who aren’t in the know, the month of November doesn’t just belong to knee-deep NFL action and the coveted annual Turkey Day. It’s also the one month each year when men from all over the globe unite in Movember, a valiant effort to grow moustaches to help fight prostate and testicular cancer.

personally affected by prostate cancer, it became so much more. Movember is a fun way to open a discussion about an uncomfortable subject.”

Local boys Evan Pulliam and “Just Toby” have been in on this action for years. The guys head up Mo’ Team ATL, Atlanta’s official Movember chapter and direct line to the Movember Foundation. “We work directly with Movember every year,” Evan explains. “Between the two of us, we have 20 years of experience. It started sort of as a joke for me, just to grow a silly mustache. Then I realized it is the single, easiest most rewarding way to become a philanthropist. It is very simple. I mean, I am all about simple charities, especially ones that involve drinking events. There’s nothing better than holding a beer and calling yourself a philanthropist.”

“If you’re gay, it will tickle your fancy,” Toby interjects. “What gay man doesn’t love a groomed moustache? Gay or straight, we are all uncomfortable with discussing the subject of prostate or testicular cancer. Movember allows everyone to gather, promoting mental health and provide a therapy of sorts for those who have or have been affected by this issue in some way.”

Evan and Toby make a dynamic duo. Evan is straight and Toby is gay, and they each have contributed, organized and supported events in and out of their personal networks, encouraging their The Movember movement originated in Australia a decade ago, fellow man to get involved every year. when a group of lads decided to bring back the ‘stache. For Toby, it’s fun and personal as well.

In keeping with the theme of helping men live happier, healthier and longer lives, David Atlanta and Mo’ Team Atlanta host the Mo’ Circus of Stars fundraising party on Friday Nov. 20 at Heretic. The event features ChiChi LaRue, a stable of her porn boys and local celebs. Stay tuned to upcoming issues for more details.

MO’ FACTS • • • •

Movember is about everyday men growing stylish moustaches and bringing attention to the real issues. The Moustache is nature’s walking poster for men’s health. Movember’s vision is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health. Mo Bros, as participants are commonly known, effectively become live-action billboards for the 30 days of Movember raising funds and much needed awareness around the often ignored issues of men’s health. Mo Bros start clean-shaven on Nov. 1, grow and groom their mustache all month long and are rocking that sexy, western outlaw look by Thanksgiving.

MO’ BROS •

Despite what you heard, beards are not an official part of Movember. For those who may get No Shave November mixed up with Movember, they are two separate campaigns. With No Shave, participants let all of their facial hair flourish, while donating money they normally would have used on shaving products to the American Cancer Society. Movember Foundation has a specific set of guidelines for all hairy participants: • • • •

Once registered, each participant must begin the 1st of November with a clean shaven face. You must grow and groom a moustache for the whole month. You cannot have a beard - which means no joining your sideburns to your beard. Nor can you join your chin to your handlebars.

For more information on Movember and how to get inTo become a Mo Bro all you have to do is register. Once volved, visit https://us.movember.com/ you visit the site, you can choose to work alone, or join a “pack” of your fellow Mo Bros, such as Evan and Toby’s Mo’ Team Atlanta.

Funds raised around the world are directed to the Movember Foundation’s list of many programs, which are shaped by, “our vision to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health.” The Movember Foundation and its men’s health partners in each country deliver the programs.

Have you ever dated or fallen for a gay man? I haven’t actually experienced it – wait, maybe that’s not fair to say. Maybe I won’t know? Maybe I don’t know? (Laughs) I just thought about that. Oh my gosh. I’m thinking about my whole life now. Nick Jonas, Justin Bieber, Taylor Lautner: Aesthetically, you have good taste in men. How jealous do your gay guy friends get?

The Gay World of Selena Gomez Selena Gomez is alive, revived and relieved. by Chris Azzopardi

fter photos turned up in 2014 of Gomez scrub-a-dub-dubbing with gal pal Cara Delevingne, who’s openly bisexual, what transpired? Gay gossip, of course.

Gomez doesn’t care “because they weren’t talking about other people in my life for once, which was wonderful,” she says. In fact, she “loved it,” a testament to the entertainer’s true-to-herself, not-reallycaring-what-you-think-anymore persona.

her and all of her gays, and I just remember a lot of mimosas. It was the best. Have you ever met a Selena Gomez drag queen?

Yes! I had one who did one of the viral videos of “Love You Like a Love Song” (Willam Belli’s “Love You Like a Big Schlong”). She did a nasty version of it, which was hysterical, and I went to the Logo NewNowNext Awards and I got to meet her, which was amazing. Absolutely. One-hundred percent. Even with Selena Gomez: My mother is absolutely my earlier stuff, I’ve always tapped into it, fantastic and she worked at a modeling and at the end of the day I’m a full-on pop agency when I was a very young girl, so artist, so I wanted the tracks to be incredible every Sunday I would have brunch with because I know how important that is. 26 | 11.4.15

Oh gosh, they’re more into it than I am. Honestly! Part of the reason I probably went out on a few dates is because of them. They’re just like, “Go! Go!” I’m like, “No!” They’re all about it, for sure. It must be fascinating to see Nick Jonas become such a gay icon. His outreach… his underwear pics… And his (gay) characters that he’s been playing! “Scream Queens” and the other show, “Kingdom,” which I thought was super rad. We actually talked about it at dinner one time. He’s incredible. I’ve known him for years – we met at 14 – it’s crazy, because I actually knew him at a different time in his life. To see him have this amazing perspective on life is awesome. I’m really proud of him. … He clearly has had a love and compassion for everyone, and I think that’s great. Your album cover is pure empowerment. You seem very comfortable in your own skin. Every other day it changes, but this year is a very important year for me. A lot of discovering and exploring who I am. It was exciting for me while also being a little complicated; I had dealt with certain body issues and things like that. What is the most common misconception people have of you? Lack of credibility. I understand that I come from Disney or whatever, but I feel like I’ve just scratched the surface of what I wanna do in film and music, to be honest. I think I gotta grow into it and make mistakes and learn and whatnot, but I do feel like that (credibility) is the one thing that people don’t give me enough of.

I would again just emphasize that I love hearing from fans, driving people to the website for more information. The book is available in paperback and available in an eBook format, Nook and Kindle and iTunes, and all that kind of stuff. People can access all of those through the website.

That’s how the first book came about. I just took the first ten installments offline and put them together in a book form.

vices

Somebody else eats, shops or fucks away his feelings. Even a healthy fascination with the gym can morph into an unhealthy obsession and an even unhealthier body image. And all of us know at least one guy who turns every reason to celebrate into something much messier by the end of the night. His excess drinks and other party favors land him in circumstances and states of mind that he, much less everyone around him, regrets on a regular basis. In the end, it doesn’t matter why or when fun habits turned into unhealthy crutches, but not slowing your roll when you need to is not a cute look. Before you know it, entire lives can careen off track, and even off cliffs. IT’S A TOUGH TIME OF YEAR for a lot of our readers. Estrangement from family is not only common among LGBT people, but even harder to take during the upcoming holidays than any other season on the calendar.

Put the ‘mo in moderation

by Mike Fleming

AT DAVID, WE’RE ALL ABOUT FUN AND INDULGING YOURSELF IN A CITY FULL OF OPPORTUNITIES TO DO SO. WE ALSO REMEMBER THAT THERE’S A LINE BETWEEN JUST ENOUGH AND TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING. VICES ARE YOUR JUST REWARD for a hard-fought week. Maybe an extra coffee, dessert, or an extra friendly friend helps grind away the daily grind. A drink or five on the weekend hits the spot. Retail therapy does buy a little happiness, and hard exercise burns off the hate. Whatever your vice, we get it. In fact, we support it. Each week, David Atlanta celebrates blowing off steam as part and parcel of your well-rounded gay life. We encourage you work that body and to shop, eat, drink and be a Mary at every last venue and outlet on our pages.

Maybe you haven’t been able to find your gay family of choice yet, or maybe those friends have other obligations that leave you alone and lonely. It’s natural to fill the time with habits that feel good to offset possible depression or numb the pain. And it may be a little too easy to succumb to the temptation to take the overcompensating too far. So before the season starts in earnest, now is a good time to remember that overdoing your doings can happen and might even catch you off guard. If you’re ready recognize it, you’re more likely to notice and be able to do something when just enough has turned into Way. Too. Much. WE LOVE YOU. NO REALLY. Everybody knows that the David guys go out of our way to remind you of ways to have fun, but we also recognize the responsibility that comes with reaching so many gay readers every week all year. Go balls out at the bar, and remember they sell bottled water and juice as well as cocktails and beer. Indulge in amazing food, and remember that they’ll make more so you don’t have to eat it all on this visit. Build that beautiful body, and enjoy his or theirs, but remember that there are other aspects to life. You’ll find options for all of that and more on our pages. We’re not trying to tell you when to say when, but if you know for yourself that it’s time to limit or stop certain behaviors, there are other activity options and gay-friendly professional resources on our pages as well. Reach out and ask for help, or ask someone you can trust to talk.

We’re proud to be your guide to going gonzo, and we’re also Indulgence is awesome. Vices add spices to life when under proud every once in a while to voice a gentle reminder that control. In moderation, a little escapism is good for you, like we care. We want to keep you reading as part of the David a vacation from the humdrum and the just plain hard parts of Atlanta community every week for years to come. your fabulous week-in, week-out life. advice

Dear Dom, Our sex is boring. After five years together my sex drive is still strong, and I want to fuck everyday. My husband couldn’t care less. How can we get the magic back? Sex Life Is Poor Dear SLIP, Three words: Little Blue Pill. Simply drop one of those babies into his mimosa during the holiday brunch. Then you two can spend the rest of the day figuring out where to hide that “surprise” four-hour erection. Trick or Treat!

Dear Dom,

Every Single Question... Every Single Answer Dear Dom, Ah, Autumn! This is my favorite time of year. The days are getting cooler. Leaves begin to change. Best of all, everything is suddenly pumpkin. Lattes, doughnuts, air fresheners … I love it all. How can I get my boyfriend’s cock to taste like pumpkin too? Pumpkin Is Erotic

Dear Dom, I hooked up with a hot guy last weekend. We were having a great time. But in the midst of plowing his hole, he asked me to choke him. I was really freaked out. He kept begging me to do it. So choked him until his eyes bugged out and his face got red. I have to admit, it was kind of cool. What have I gotten myself into? This can’t be safe, right? Need Opinion On Sexual Extreme Dear NOOSE, All you need is an executioner’s hood and some rope, NOOSE, to fully flesh out this breath play scene. That, and maybe a body bag. The French call an orgasm la petite mort, meaning the little death. That’s for good reason. With an approaching climax, muscles contract and twitch, and the blood vessels of the body and brain are pulsing as oxygen surges through the circulatory system. Choking off a person’s air supply during this moment and then allowing it to return causes a major head rush that makes poppers seem like child’s play.

We all learned the “fainting game” as teenagers. Add that kind of sweet euphoria to dom/sub sex play, and you’ve got a game for grownups. This game also comes with big risks warns loNow we know why Charlie Brown is so excited to wait up all cal pulmonary specialist Spiro Boza, MD. “Asphyxiation during Halloween Eve just to see the Great Pumpkin, PIE. the armorettes

ARIES (Mar. 20 – Apr. 19): Your virility could be put to the test today. A big daddy with a dominant personality could swagger into your life, and you’ll suddenly feel like a little boy. But be a man and rise to the occasion today. Little boys can grow up real fast.

LIBRA (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22): Look at the big picture today as details won’t matter. Analyzing things will make them more complex than they need to be. Sometimes you just have to take things at face value, and that includes guys. Let your gut tell you if seeing is believing.

TAURUS (Apr. 20 – May 20): Be tolerant of strange and unusual people today. They seem to be everywhere these days, like the inmates are running the asylum. Learn to laugh with them, because they always seem so happy and content. But then again, that may be the Prozac at work.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): Money may not be coming in as smoothly as you’d like, so you may have to start cutting some corners. This could have a drastic effect on your social life. But look on the bright side: Going out only once a week could put the sheen back on what has become a tedious exercise.

GEMINI (May 21- Jun. 20): No wonder our flag is a rainbow, because there’s so many colors in our world. A more diverse group of people you could not meet, so celebrate that today. It’s our diversity that makes us strong, and it’s our differences that make us united.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 – Dec. 20): This could be a lucky day for you. So don’t be afraid to take some romantic risks. Call a few guys you haven’t spoken to in a while and reconnect. You may find that some of them will be happy to hear from you again, while others still haven’t dropped the restraining orders.

CANCER (Jun. 21- Jul. 22): Show some restraint when throwing money around today. Sure, you’ll be able to afford it, but are you being blinded by a fat price tag and a lot of bells and whistles? Bigger and better often translates to trashy and cheesy when money is in the wrong hands.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 – Jan. 19): You may have to teach others how to take control today. Sometimes people close to you need to learn how to think for themselves, and not depend on someone else. What happens if that other person is no longer there? It’s called tough love and they’ll be better for it.

LEO (Jul. 23 – Aug. 22): You shine like the sun, but you rarely share your warmth with just one person. You may be a man of the people but even you needs a one and only. So today spread your light on a special fella. Everyone else will just have to get used to being in the dark.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): A warm and giving environment often promotes creative collaboration. And not just in the workplace. Show your partner some TLC and things could get quite creative. Sometimes long term partners forget how easy that can be.

VIRGO (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22): You may have to bear your fangs to overbearing people today. With their drama and histrionics they’ll make your day a nightmare if you don’t. Flash your claws as well, but do what you have to do to get them off your back and running for the band-aids.

PISCES (Feb. 19 – Mar. 19): You may have too much going on today, so take some ‘me’ time to just sit and visualize. Entertaining your fantasies can be a nice break in the day but you may have to finish some of them after you get home from your boyfriend’s place and you’re on your own computer.

Bitch

S E S S I O N Being a bitch to me doesn’t change the fact that I’m the one he can’t live without.

I’m not a bitch; I just saw through all your bullshit and lies.

Beards and skinny jeans: just because it’s in doesn’t mean you should be in it.

If it’s not sidewalks, it’s HRC. If it’s not HRC, it’s GLAAD. So. Annoying. And for what, to throw parties that make rich guys feel good about themselves?

Gee...having four guys at your house all week doesn’t make you a family. You’re still a liar and methwhore! #METHISBEST

SEND US YOUR BITCHES! Text 404.969.BTCH, tweet @BitchSessionATL or email bitch@davidatlanta.com *This page reflects the bitchiness of the community not David Atlanta or its publisher (although we’re bitchy too!)

I‘m hurt, but losing someone who doesn’t respect and appreciate you is actually a gain, not a loss. Your hairline is receding so much that your long hair makes you look like Gallagher. Unless that’s on purpose. You are mad because your physically abusive, on/off/on/off/on, two-timing bf posted in the bitch session and we talked about it? Really? You drama queens deserve each other. #twonarcissistsarebetterthanone

Seeing you at Pride reminded me why I walk away. Drooling and barely walking are not attractive, Mary!

I think it’s time you find a better job and stop mooching off your dates for free food.
