Those are all trips of a lifetime, but the Fairmont Empress in Victoria, British Columbia, will always have my heart. After all, it’s where I married my husband of over 20 years. Located on Vancouver Island, and home to Parliament for all of Canada, it’s truly one of the most gorgeous resorts you could ever see. Please go visit. It’s right on the harbor and walking distance to everything. The Chinatown in Victoria is home to some of the best dim sum I’ve ever had, and the millions of flowers at Butchart Gardens will make you fall in love all over again. And one last thing about Victoria, if a fan of High Tea, the one at the Empress is the one to beat. Served daily for over 100 years, it’s a feast of finger sandwiches and pots of Darjeeling. Of course there are scones, and clotted cream and fresh berries. Oh my god, I just love to eat. It doesn’t matter what. I wasn’t doing what I needed to do to continue losing weight. Johnny: Me personally, I had been a little bit physical. In high school I played football and I’ve always dabbled in drama so I’d be in shows that required me to dance, so that kept me active, but as far as actual hard-core exercise, training, all that stuff, running, lifting weights, not really. How grueling was this process from start to finish? Johnny: Extremely. Jason: Yeah, it was extremely grueling. The first day that we were on camera working with the trainer, they took us to some high school, Atlanta public schools track and field down near Turner Field. we’re like, “No, we can’t do these things. No!” … We trained with a trainer five days a week and the other two days tried to exercise on our own. Has exercise become part of your daily routine? Johnny: We don’t go work out five days a week, but we do get a lot more physical activity in than before, for sure. Jason: We have, and we changed the way we eat. I grew up in the South so everything was fried, dipped in batter, all kinds of seasonings and spices. I learned how to cook and season and spice things without doing it so much. I’ve seen improvements in the way my body feels and the energy level I have and everything with the less salt, the less sodium. We look at labels when we purchase groceries now, things we never did before. Is there anything else you’d like to say?

Johnny: Dealing with my sexuality and my mom, she’s a very religious and spiritual woman. I love her to death and my mom has a heart of gold and would do anything, but me being gay has been very difficult. I have a lot of realizations during the filming of the show and talked about things that I had no intention of putting out there. … I really discovered a connection between the weight that I had gained and the emotional baggage that I was carrying. As I got that out, the weight started to come off, so I hope that she will understand that if I do have to explain to her these ideas. I would hope so. Jason and Johhny’s Fit to Fat to Fit episode premiered on March 15 and airs again throughout the week on A&E. New episodes air each Tuesday at 10 p.m.

AS SHE PREPARES TO HIT HERETIC, THE RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE FAVORITE LETS US IN ON HER LIFE BEFORE AND AFTER SEASON 7.

M

iss Fame’s accruing popularity due to her poised participation on RPDR Season 7 is only one high heel step of her journey. Her life experience beyond drag dreams starts as a young boy on a chicken farm and carries her all the way to Atlanta’s next Power Room Party, set for this week.

Kurtis Dam-Mikkelsen grew up on a chicken farm in California. He found work as a fashion model, but his true love was always cosmetics. He worked as a makeup artist for years before enchanting audiences and runaways with the Miss Fame character. The persona came to fruition through a love of transformation that blends Old Hollywood with a bewitching cosmic quality. Perhaps it’s a touch inspiration of replicant Rachel from Blade Runner and Flash Gordon’s Princess Aura.

Opportunities have led her to question success and confrontation of her demons. Kurtis’s hardships eventually led to clean living and a centered self, as well as a hope to help others help themselves and their peers. The glamour goddess doesn’t lament her life; she rises above. Coping through club culture’s cruxes and eventually into a state of sweet sobriety, she’s streamed solace in her mission. In collaboration with Wussy Mag, David Atlanta offers readers this taste of Miss Fame before her Atlanta stops on a makeup class tour and Powder Room, scheduled to hit Heretic on March 18. What is your earliest memory of playing with makeup?

I remember trying on my grandma’s lipstick at maybe 9 or 10 years old. It was exciting and terrifying at the same time. That fear of getting caught and then trying to quickly remove a longMiss Fame also is a musician. Her debut album, Beauty Marked, wear product, with the stain on my skin. What influences the creation of your looks and drag persona? I love a fantasy film, but that’s not my main inspiration. I truly find my creative by referencing from Old Hollywood women, the icons of the silver screen, the supermodels of the ‘90s, and nature. Just taking time to appreciate the stars at night and pondering what’s behind our planet allows me to channel the great power and presence of something much bigger than I. How has the creation of your drag persona helped heal the hardships you experienced as a young person? I found a power within myself that allowed me to be a messenger of hope. I wanted to share my experience and allow my purpose to have meaning to help others find their true passion. Also to let those that have trauma know they’re not alone and that life does get so much better. Making this experience on earth truly count and have a greater meaning in my existence. Miss Fame hosts Wussy Mag’s monthly dance party Powder Room at Heretic on Friday, March 18. Powder Room is a queer soiree and a zero-femmephobia zone. Serve face, because Fame will give away a ticket to her makeup class at the Renaissance Atlanta Midtown scheduled the following day. advice

Hey, Daddy! A Mean Girl who I thought was my friend has decided that I am the enemy. The only difference is that we’re not high school students but fully-grown gay men in Midtown Atlanta. Still, it hurts that he snickers when I walk into the bar, posts lies on social media, and tries to sabotage my love life. How can I get him to see that I’m not a bad person and leave me alone? Not Into Caustic Egos, Get It Right Loser Dear NICE GIRL: As one homo so eloquently put it recently: How can it be all about you when it’s all about me?

HEY,

Daddy!

His point is that nothing that anyone does is about you, ever. Even if somebody has their finger in your face blaming you, their behavior is about them. We all make choices based on what’s going on inside our own heads, and your frenemy’s internal dialogue is way more uncomfortable for him than it is for you, trust me. What this jerk says about you actually speaks volumes more about his state of mind, and it ain’t pretty. Now for what you can control. Evict him from the residency you’ve leased him in your head. That makes room for new social circles with better friends. Block him on social media, and refuse to take part in conversations about him. Stop trying to figure out how to change his mind. Behave as if he doesn’t exist, and over time, he won’t.

Hey, Daddy!

Hey, Daddy!

My boyfriend tends to pat my ass on his way out the door, and that’s the extent of affection aside from the sex itself – if you count pounding me into the headboard for a couple minutes.

I’ve been dating a guy, and on the morning of our date when we were finally supposed to do the full fucky-sucky, he texted that his work imploded and he had to cancel. I’m livid. How could I have gotten my signals so messed up?

But the real trouble is outside the bedroom. He’s super successful and says that if I had a better job, I’d understand why he’s so busy. He also thinks I’d be better able to afford to hang with him and his rich friends when he’s not working. How can I measure up?

Not After Investing Valuable Energy

Value Ingrate’s Cherished Time In Me

Dear NAÏVE: Take a breath. What if – gasp! – it’s not about you. What if he called as soon as he could and hoped you’d understand that life can get in the way of RomCom perfection?

As long as you’re making assumptions, why not assume that he’s honest and the cancellation has nothing to do with you. Getting your head straight in this way will smooth things out internally You do need to make a change, but not in your job. As much as well as in your relationship. as he would like you to think that adjusting your life would suit him, this isn’t about you. From the sex, to his demeaning Daddy comments, to the time he finds for friends but not you, this is Daddy loves his boys. He knows the answers you need, and all about him. Dear VICTIM:

He turns your concerns back on you so he doesn’t have to make changes himself. Consider this information your free ticket away from this guy’s emotional dumper. 56 | 3.16.16

ARIES (Mar. 20 – Apr. 19): Things may happen right under your nose this week, and you may not even be aware of it. The thing that will be obvious is your reaction to the situation when this hidden event suddenly comes to light.

LIBRA (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22): Your playful attitude is apt to be opposed by someone who refuses to see things your way. Walk away from those who aren’t committed to helping the situation. Prove to others that even though you may be happy, it doesn’t mean you’re gullible.

TAURUS (Apr. 20 – May 20): It could be that close friends or family members are in sharp disagreement regarding a certain issue. Try not to be too distressed by divisions among the people you love.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): This is one of those weeks where you’re trying to paint a large area, but you only have a small brush. Go easy on yourself and get a large brush. Make your strokes gigantic so you can cover more area with less effort.

GEMINI (May 21- Jun. 20): There is a great deal of emotion and drive to the day, just the way you like it. Make sure you don’t get stuck with the short end of the stick as the day comes to a close.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 – Dec. 20): You may be barking up the wrong tree this week. Before you waste all your energy on your podium proclaiming your thoughts to the world, it would behoove you to stop, look around, and notice your audience.

CANCER (Jun. 21- Jul. 22): You’re going to be a valuable asset to others today because of your rational mind and ability to think things through clearly. Do your best to avoid fights, even though it will be tempting for you and others to want to let off some steam.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 – Jan. 19): In an attempt to merge with infinity, you might overlook some basic life principles. Be careful about being seduced by those who want you to be involved in their drama. You may not even realize how deep a hole you’ve dug until it’s too late.

LEO (Jul. 23 – Aug. 22): In your attempts to always be the nice, helpful one, you might find that you’re compromising some of your values. Know that balance and harmony are wonderful things, but they aren’t always worth the price of self-sacrifice.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): Feel free to stand up for yourself, a cause, or another person this week, even if you know it will cause tension among the others around you. A heated argument is likely to ensue, and it wouldn’t be surprising if you were the catalyst.

VIRGO (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22): Actions could be quick and intense this week. Things may hit you like lightning, so be prepared for just about anything. Mentally stabilize yourself before interacting with others. Dress to demonstrate your power.

PISCES (Feb. 19 – Mar. 19): Your mind is apt to be fixed on one thing this week, and you won’t rest until you’ve obtained it. Don’t be surprised if you have to put up a bit of a fight in order to accomplish this goal, whatever it may be.
