she was working on marbles under latex. Then something snapped me into battle stance. She rather forcefully ripped down my underwear and began an aggressive ass massage that went dangerously close to my, umm, well I guess there’s no sense in playing coy now. My asshole. I wasn’t sure If I should pipe up or if that was part of the drill. Why would getting a near finger-bang be in order? I just kept quiet and played possum. As it turns out, it was all part of a massage, I guess. At least at this place. Nothing else off the radar happened.

Um, did you just touch me… there? by Jeff Berry

GETTING A MASSAGE HELPS ONE GAY MAN STRETCH HIS COMFORT ZONE. THAT'S HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, BUT MAYBE NOT QUITE WHEN IT'S PUSHED THIS FAR. SINCE I’M NOT RUNNING AROUND DRINKING and being a post-expiration date twink these days, I have a lot of extra free time. I’m not a major fan of change and had been hiding out at my parents licking my wounds, but that was getting stale. The safety of that world was closing in on me, and it began to feel claustrophobic. It was time to grow a pair and rejoin the land of the living, head home and try some unfamiliar things. With all this introspection, I was feeling a little tense. I thought a massage might be just what Nurse Ratchet ordered. In old movies, they put lunatics in hot baths to calm them down. I thought something along that line, only less extreme, might help. Upon meeting at my appointed time, I was shown to a dimly lit room and asked if I wanted a bed shower. Uh oh, had I unwittingly entered a “happy ending” massage parlor? My fight or flight response kicked in, but I judiciously ignored it and went with the flow. 20 | 4.6.16

SHE SAID TO UNDRESS and get under a sheet then dissolved back into the recesses of another dark hallway. Having never been naked in front of a woman before, I wasn’t about to start with this chick who was built like a linebacker and was dripping with the vibe of the incubus plucked out of Henry Fuseli’s The Nightmare.

As the massage went on, I surrendered to the moment and drifted away. I started thinking this experience was a good metaphor for fear. I had stepped outside the confines of safety, albeit incrementally, and tried something new. It felt weird, a little uncomfortable and though I’m still not sure about the butthole thing, nothing terrible happened. TOEING THE LINE OF COMFORT can be scary, but this proved inspiring. I could never do anything by myself before. I always had to have the safety of a friend or wingman. Not anymore. With each new small experience, I feel freer. I’m hopping all over town stag these days, and its second nature. Motivation comes after action, never before. With all of this in mind, I pose this question to you. If you were to toe the line of your comfort zone, what would it be? What’s keeping you from doing it? What is the core fear? For me, it was always the fear of getting it wrong and looking stupid. That has fallen away. I’d much rather get it wrong and look stupid. Or worse, being egotistical about being right and still being wrong. You look stupid either way, but you are better poised to learn something if you strip away fear and ego.

She freaked me out, so I opted for the underwear route. As if the thin layer of cotton underwear was going to protect me from the ass raping that sure to ensue? Can you even get ass raped by a woman? What if this is a jack shack? Can she give me the Herp just by massage contact? So what if you look like a dork trying Maybe I should dip out. something outside your comfort zone? The people who think you are a dork Wait. Wait. Wait. Down boy. Stop being can suck it. More importantly, you’ll drama queen. likely learn something new or meet someone new along the way. Either SHE ENTERED A FEW MOMENTS way, you win. So get out there and rock LATER and began the massage. I was a something outside the zone! bit more tense than I thought. It felt like

CHEERS TO

SPRING by Mike Fleming

THE ONLY WAY THE RETURN OF PATIO WEATHER COULD GET ANY BETTER IS BY GIVING YOUR COCKTAIL REFRESHERS A REFRESHING GAY TWIST OF THEIR OWN. It’s time to get back out there and enjoy the season with friends and fun, and maybe with some new ways to enjoy some stand-by cocktails. We found some tres gay ways to give your old favorites a new kick.

Macho Margarita

Gayest Green Tea

Makes 1 pitcher, or about 8 servings 1 can (12 ounces) frozen limeade concentrate 2 to 2 1/2 cups tequila (gold or silver) 10 strawberries (or 12 if you’re using smaller ones from the farmer’s market or your backyard.) 8 basil leaves

Makes one drink, multiply ingredients by number of guests 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice 4 large mint leaves, torn into several large pieces 2 teaspoons sugar approx. 1/2 cup brewed green tea, chilled 1 ounce white rum

Make the limeade in a pitcher and add tequila. Hull the strawberries, slice lengthwise, and add to the pitcher. Crumple the basil a little in your hands (this will help the basil flavor release into the drink) and add it to the pitcher, too. Place the pitcher, covered, in the fridge overnight, or for at least four hours.

Muddle the lime juice, mint and sugar to release the flavors. Add ice until glass ¾ full. Add rum and tea.

Put the sashay in your old margarita with a couple of extras that make it look fab and taste even better.

Refreshing and perfectly suited to your warm-weather pursuits, this mojito says says go green to go gay.

Diva Juice

Witchy Sour

Makes one drink, multiply by number of guests 2 cups diced, seeded watermelon flesh 1 cup peeled, seeded cucumber 2 sprigs mint (10-12 leaves) ½ ounce triple sec ½ ounce fresh lime juice

Makes one cocktail 2 oz whiskey 3/4 oz lemon juice 1/4 oz honey, ½ oz hot water 1/2 oz hot water

Melons are just starting to trickle back into circulation. They might not prime for eating yet, but they don’t have to be perfect to make you the belle of the cocktail ball.

You have a bite to you, just like a Whiskey Sour. Sweeten it up way more than simple syrup with more flavor, and let it work its witchy ways.

Source adaptation: Backyard bartender

Do the salad portion of your mix in a food processor. Add the liquid ingredients, and you go, diva! Source adaptation: DIY Cocktails

Cukey, Cute & Classy

Little Devil

Yields one drink 1 cucumber 1 lime 3 sprigs rosemary 2 oz. gin 4 oz. tonic water ice

Makes pitcher of 12 1 can (12 oz) frozen limeade concentrate 1 1/2 can (18 oz) tequila blanco 2/3 can (8 oz) creme de cassis 1/2 can (6 oz) still water (not soda or tonic) 1 1/2 can (18 oz) ginger beer

Your gin and tonic just got a gay upgrade. Add cucumber and rosemary, and you’ll be going back for more. As if you wouldn’t already.

Peel half a cucumber, and slice lime into wedges. Muddle three slices of peeled cucumber, one sprig rosemary, one wedge lime juice, and one ounce gin. Strain into glass, add ice and three slices of unpeeled cucumber. Top with remaining gin and tonic. Remaining rosemary for garnish.

You’re always just a little better when you’re a little bad. That’s what makes this classic El Diablo with a modern, great-looking twist.

Mix limeade, tequila, cassis and water in a pitcher. Let chill. Immediately before serving, add ginger beer and serve over ice. Feeling fancy? Yeah ya are. Garnish with blackberries. Pro Tip: Mix the remaining Crème de Cassis with Champagne at brunch for the perfect hair of the devil that bit ya. Source adaptation: Backyard Bartender

and helped Bebe write the book. Together, the two inject the family’s signature gospel soul into a tour-de-force stage experience. Keeping the integral theme of family alive, Bebe’s real life nephew and niece, Juan Winans and Deborah Joy Winans, play Bebe and Cece in the show. They are joined onstage by Kirsten Wyatt, who brings the iconic role of Tammy Faye Bakker to life. Although she could be remembered for her scandals and campy appearance, the musical foregoes that option and instead focuses on the genuine compassion that Bakker had. “I portray her as being all about love,” Wyatt tells David Atlanta. While on the Praise the Lord Network, Tammy Faye brought HIV and AIDS patients on television to show a more compassionate side of Christianity, and that God loves everyone. She credits Randolph-Wright and Winans for caring about Bakker’s heart and allowing her to portray her as a truly caring individual.

“The fact that the Bakkers took two African American kids under their wing is amazing,” Wyatt asserts. “They were integrating Christian television and showing a mixed family practicing the same religion.” That becomes the show’s main take away: Unlikely friendships and connections are made when compassion and tolerance are practiced. For some people, following their religion means thinking with a closed mind and leading with intolerance. Born for This shows the acceptance and love at the true root of Christianity and hits the stage at a time as some people in Georgia blur the line between being a carrier of the faith and being an intolerant bigot. Fortunately Georgia Gov. Deal vetoed the religious liberty bill that would have allowed people to discriminate against others under the guise of practicing their religion. Church like that may be available on TV, and the Winans helped make sure it was, but a loving story like Born for This was truly made for the stage. “The first time Joining Hearts did Change of Seasons at the Georgian Terrace, it was the first event I fully managed for Joining Hearts,” he remembers as he now wraps up his thirdyear term as president. “It was my baby in a way, and I loved The organization, which raises awareness and funds to provide it the two years we were there, so I can’t wait to be back. “We decided as a brand we only want to produce highquality events in stunning or unique locations to give our audience the best experience,” Berry says. “Hopefully, that will be reflected in Joining Hearts-produced events moving forward; I believe our Love on the Rocks, pool party, and now Change of Seasons all meet our brand standards and set the bar for future endeavors. We have a core group of events we know our audience likes, and we will be exploring new, exceptional events to add to our roster and engage our current/new audiences.” Future events include the signature Joining Hearts pool party on July 16, a patron sponsor party in August, Miss Joining Hearts with a date still to be determined, and the Wish List and beneficiary acknowledgment event in December. “Aside from that, we have some great partner events coming up with David Magazine, and we are looking at the possibility of adding another larger event if we can find the right concept,” Berry said. This year’s Men of David event rolls out on April 17 and wraps with two blowout parties on Stonewall Weekend. Joining Hearts is the beneficiary of this year’s contest, fundraising and celebrations. the D list David Atlanta’s weekly list of truths all gay men have come to know

Rimming

Straight people who aren’t getting this oral pleasure don’t now what they’re missing. Love the booty. Eat the booty.

10 sex tips from gay guys

Tea-bagging

Guys, if you’re only giving your shaft a head all the fun, you haven’t had it all. Find your boys a warm place to go as well.

Making out

Back to the butt

Nipple play

Vocalize

Edging

Biting

No sex. This time, commit to only kissing, rubbing and grabbing. The anticipation will make next time even hotter.

Dirty talk is just the beginning. Communicate with groans, moans and growling. Ask questions. Give direction. Think it? Say it.

Calm down. It doesn’t have to include insertion. Massage, tickle, press and play until you’re declared Lord of the Ring.

Get to the “edge” of the orgasm cliff without going over. Slow down. Go again. Repeat. It takes practice, but it’s worth it.

They’re not just there for decoration. From finding the dial to cranking up the volume, you’ll be glad you turned these knobs.

Just do it. Where? Experiment. Lightly at first up to as hard as you both dare. You might surprise yourself.

Asking permission

Good old-fashioned role play is a sensual power thing. Consent is not just the right thing to do, done right it’s sexy as hell.

Scratch

Intensify the already most intense moments with your fingernails. Not enough to bleed, but enough to really feel it.

Got an idea for an upcoming D List? Want to share your truths with the rest of the Gay-TL? Write mike@davidatlanta.com so we can include it. 58 | 4.6.16

advice

Hey, Daddy! There’s one thing standing in the way of a future with my boyfriend: He says it’s me. I say it’s him. He thinks that if I don’t break my devoutly religious grandmother’s heart by coming out to her, I can’t have true gay Pride, and I can’t have him. Come out to my Mamaw, or he’s breaking up with me. I think he’s being unreasonable. What do you think? Objectionable Under Threat Dear OUT: You say it’s him, and he says it’s you. I say you’re both right.

HEY,

Assuming you are otherwise out and harbor no internalized homophobia – only you can answer that – you have the right to come out when, and to whom, you choose. It doesn’t make you ashamed, just different. You should similarly accept that his being out to everyone is equally valid.

Daddy!

In a longterm relationship, you both have to live with the other one’s accompanying consequences and rewards of spilling the beans or remaining silent. Maybe it’s your cultures, mores, or other circumstances that make you each feel the way you do. Maybe you can live with each other’s situation and choices, maybe you can’t. Understanding is how you evaluate.

Hey, Daddy!

The big red flag here is his ultimatum. Holding conditional love over someone speaks more to relationship issues than which relatives know you’re gay.

I’m 17, out and unhappy. My mom is cool with me being gay, but she’d rather talk about finishing school and Hey, Daddy! getting a job. I can’t go to bars yet, and I don’t have any money. I know only one other gay dude. Being “out” is I’ve never acted on being gay, but now I’m considering coming out at 38. I worry that I waited too long, like having a brand new car with nowhere to drive it. but I also worry that denying it would shortchange I know, I know: It Gets Better. Well, life sucks now, so my true self. when exactly can I expect all the promises to come Longings & Aging T’aint Easy true? So I’m gay. Now what? Yes Out, Unhappy Not ‘Gay’

Dear LATE:

Dear YOUNG:

There are as many ways to come out as there are people who do it. If your “true self” is nagging you to come out, it’s worth It’s hard to see the forest for the trees when you’re 17. The good exploring. Others who can relate and appreciate the sum of news, and incidentally the bad news, is that what seems like for- your life experiences are out there. Your next chapter is coming ever right now is actually just a small, fleeting portion of your life. whether you come out or not, so think about how to make it the best. It’s never too late. Spend this time setting yourself up for a better future. Going to school and getting a job are the hard parts that earn the Daddy fun and the funds of being an adult. "It gets better" because Daddy loves his boys. He knows the answers you need, and you get better. Instead of focusing on what you don’t have, actively practice being grateful for what you do. Tons of people would love to have a mom cool with them being gay, to know even one other gay person, and be able to come out and be ready to get on with life. 64 | 4.6.16

the armorettes

ARIES (Mar. 20 – Apr. 19): The prevailing tone is a mix of conflicting energies that might put some stress on your heart. It’s nothing you can’t handle. Tap into your aggressiveness and act boldly toward the object of your desire.

LIBRA (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22): Your romantic nature is piqued. If you’re single and looking for love, this is a good day to get out and ask someone to dance. Neaten up your appearance and wear a snazzy outfit, regardless of the situation.

TAURUS (Apr. 20 – May 20): The key this week is action. There’s a great deal of force pressuring you to get the ball rolling. One of these forces may come from a romantic interest waiting for you to make the next move.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): Forces may be pulling on you from all angles, and your challenge will be to maintain a healthy balance among all of them. Accomplish a great deal by directing your energies outward instead of inward.

GEMINI (May 21- Jun. 20): Ignite the fire in your heart and make it burn more brightly than before. Keep in mind that you may need to make compromises in order to be on the same page with your lover in the way you relate emotionally.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 – Dec. 20): You may find yourself in the position of arbiter simply because you have the detached mind that people need to resolve disputes. Take an active role in the lives of those around you.

CANCER (Jun. 21- Jul. 22): There are a couple important issues that you may need to resolve. Take an active role in the department of love and romance. Feel free to be aggressive about having your needs met.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 – Jan. 19): You may be tempted to shift into high gear this week, but you’re likely to be unsure where to focus your energy. Don’t retreat into a hole. Dress up and show off your outer as well as inner beauty.

LEO (Jul. 23 – Aug. 22): You should enjoy a good mood, and you will find that things will go well for you in general. Perhaps the only sticky situation that could arise is from an aggressive approach in the department of love and romance.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): There’s apt to be tension between your heart and your general mood. There’s enough love to go around. Don’t feel like you need to be possessive in order to maintain others’ loyalty.

VIRGO (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22): Circumstances of the week may result in some tricky situations for you. You could be caught between a rock and a hard place. The instinct to make war or peace with any given issue is making you restless.

PISCES (Feb. 19 – Mar. 19): You will discover that it’s easy to start up new projects this week, especially those involving creative or romantic elements. The tricky part will be followthrough. This is your specialty, so don’t worry about it.
