Architecture 1: The Elements The City and the Sector: Monserrate and 7th Avenue

2003

Architecture 1: The Elements Precincts: Bogota Central Cemetery and “Campito de de San Jose”

BOGOTÁ CENTRAL CEMETERY The exercise is based on a visit to Monserrate Hill and to one of the most important avenues in Bogota, Colombia. This experience creates an excellent opportunity for Urban landscape observation and the recognition of the essential elements composing it.

Landscape drawing from Monserrate Hill

Learning expression technics, urban landscape researching and discovering different urban perspectives are some of the objectives as well as developing a basic design exercise combining the different elements found in imaginary urban situations.

This exercise explores the design principles that, found in any composition in addition to scale and proportion, are essential in architecture, bringing order and providing a direct relation between space and people..

OBJECTIVES:

Scale model

Finding similarities between the city and the cemetery and create a comparative document in which the studied design principles should be illustrated. Acquiring helpful drawing skills which make project’s documentation and interpretation more effective and integral. Recognizing verifiable design principles in isolated objects and precincts. Exemplifying proportion, scale etc. in an individual proposal.

Architecture 1: The Elements Interior Space

Interior space is the main focus of the final exercise and its importance over the resulting volume has been a relevant issue along history. As Architecture could be understood from inside to outside, the exercise proposes an extreme sustractive operation, in which a solid volume should be manipulated to create space. Observatory folding model

In this particular case, the sustractions made, allow the natural elements to flow through the interior and would make possible for the visitors to live an extraordinary sensorial and spacial experience in harmony with the surroundings .

The exercise makes emphasis in the study of an isolated building with a great historical background and some of its basic constructive principles such as Geometry, Weight, and Stairs.

Objectives: Producing otrthogonal projection drawings, perspectives and models.

Resulting volume General view

Through the project, the workshop defines elements that make the composition and constructive systems coherent. Located in the business and cultural district in Bogotรก and at the side of the National Museum, this offices building steps back from the 7th avenue generating a new urban space that articulates the public life and in which different elements, composing the urban dynamic of the place, are integrated. The general plan aims to ensure the continuity and interactions between the existing, proposed and future public space projects converging in this place. ISLE IN THE NEUSA LAKE: CONVERGENCE OF 3 ECOSYSTEMS Three different ecosystems were identified in an isle located in Neusa Lake in Colombia. As the three ecosystems are particularly interesting conditions, the work of site analysis was concentrated in looking for a place where the three ecosystems converged. In a certain place in the isle, a linear virtual axis articulates this 3 situations: Reticular Forest, Dense vegetation, Water and voids. Experimental Design for Prototypes Exposition at the Visual Arts Muesum in Santiago de Chile

2006

The inauguration of the exposition: “Architecture Drawings: Illustrations before the construction” in the Visual Arts Museum in Santiago de Chile MAVI, was the result of the workshop. During the whole semester, the design, study and production of modulable pieces , took place. This pieces allowed the generation of a modular system consisting of panels and tables through which the assembling of the exposition of Architects Drawings was possible. The Course work was concentrated in the production of pieces in the Industrial Design workshop at the Catholic University in Santiago de Chile. The components were then brought to the museum.
