A week in the life of a poetry-writing bus driver, and a quiet observation of the triumphs and defeats of daily life and of the poetry evident in its smallest details. A film of great gentle charm.
An extraordinary film about a blind masseur / swordsman who comes to a town in control of warring gangs. Funny, beautiful, violent, traditional and exuberant by turns, it shouldn’t work but does. An upbeat film to end our season.
After the huge success of the Scrabble Club on Tuesday afternoon, we have decided to introduce another Scrabble Club on Thursday mornings from 10.00-12.00
So please do come along and get scrabbling.... 16

At Sandgate Parish’s Annual Parish Meeting on Tuesday 15th May, Cllr Robert Bliss was presented with a medal commemorating his position as Honorary Alderman of FHDC by Cllr David Owen Chairman of FHDC. Cllr Bliss, in turn, presented Mrs Rosemary Sanders with the KALC Community Award, acknowledging her significant contribution to the local community. Cllr Robert Bliss spoke about the many great achievements that have been seen in the parish over the last 12 months. The improvements to the street scene have been evident with hanging baskets in new settings by the entrance of the parish and various planters. Union Flags were flown around the War Memorial for Remembrance Day in November and flags of the armed forces flown along the Esplanade. Christmas celebrations were started with garland lights on lampposts in the village, 20 foot Christmas trees and the illumination of the Santa and sleigh and small trees above the shops in the Golden Valley. The continued excellent services of the caretaker at Sandgate Park and Harmer and Sons have ensured that all the open spaces throughout the parish are beautifully maintained Once again Sandgate has been awarded the Seaside Award joining the country’s very best beaches, showing they are clean, safe and meet the highest environmental standards, as well as the tough international bathing water quality standards. The parish council has regular meetings with various organisations, schools, the Twinning Town of Sangatte and other agencies. Through the Twinning agreement with the Mayor of Sangatte, SPC encouraged an exchange with the Collège Louis Blériot in Sangatte and Folkestone School for Girls which has been very successful. Cllr Bliss and Watts will be travelling to Sangatte in June to attend a school concert at Blériot Plage and there are hopes for a joint concert here next year. 22

SPC have now been in charge of the library for 2 years and many changes have taken place with increased opening hours and the number of visitors have increased by 17% and issues have had an increase of 19%. Much of this is due to the invaluable support of our library volunteers who support the library four mornings a week. Mr Bliss closed his address with hopes for even more exciting achievements in the coming year.

HYTHE TOWN WALKS Every Thursday morning until the end of September, guided walks around the old Cinque Port of Hythe take place. The starting point is at 10.30 a.m. at the Town Hall. The stroll around the old town takes about 75 minutes. It starts with a look around the Town Hall and a short talk on the beginnings of Hythe and finishes at St. Leonard's Church , where an optional guided tour around the Church is available with a visit also to the Crypt and the world famous Ossuary. From the cutting-edge London design agency Here Design - writer and poet Philip Cowell, and award-winning designer Caz Hildebrand, author of The Herbarium, this playful, original, beautifully designed book brings to life the punctuation marks we use every day, including: The dashing dash So-called "quotation marks" The colon: and on and on.
