It would appear that the escarpment land being sold by the developer to allow five houses to be built did not sell at the auction on Monday. The financial requirements are that: It is demonstrated that the amount of enabling development is the minimum necessary to secure the future of the place, and that its form minimises harm to other public interests. The Shepway District Council Planning Department said: Your Council needs to be satisfied that the cost assumptions about works and end values are fair and reasonable and that the overall project is viable. The economics of the project suggest that a greater number of new houses might be needed to achieve viability were it not for the proposal to sell No 7 as a house. We consider five new houses to be the most development that the site can take without causing too much harm but defer to your Council about this aspect of the project. Watch this space

Old Hall Farm has provided the Sandgate Farmers' Market with high quality, traditionally reared meat, eggs and sausages almost since the beginning and now they are branching out into fruit and vegetables. You'll not find any oranges or bananas on the Marsh Produce stall as they will only sell what can be sourced locally - mainly in Kent but occasionally further afield. Please support this new initiative and help them build a product range that meets your needs.

One Man, Two Guvnors’
An Amateur Production by kind permission of Samuel French Co Ltd
Written by Richard Bean Directed by Pete Raine and Fanny Richmond
The Folkestone - Hythe, Operatic & Dramatic Society
Presents
Another sparkling play for 2016. The Folkestone-Hythe operatic & Dramatic Society present outstanding comedy One Man, Two Guvnors at the Tower Theatre. Thought to be by many to be one of the funniest plays of the last few years. In 1960s Brighton, a socially naive Francis Henshall becomes separately employed by two men – Roscoe Crabbe, a local gangster, and Stanley Stubbers, an upper class criminal. Francis tries to keep the two from meeting, in order to avoid each of them learning that Francis is also working for someone else. However, it turns out that Roscoe is really Rachel Crabbe in disguise, her twin brother Roscoe having been killed by her lover, who is none other than Stanley Stubbers. Mixed in with these chaotic events is Pauline Clench who was originally meant to marry Roscoe but is now set to elope with over-the-top amateur actor Alan Dangle. The play runs from Wednesday 2nd November to Saturday 5th. Start time 7.30 p.m. with a matinee on 5th November at 2.30 p.m. Tickets prices: £11.00 Full £10.00 Concessions £7.00 U14's

I was glad Songs of Joy & Reflection 7.30pm on Saturday 8th October 2016 All Saints Church, Mill Street, Maidstone, ME15 6YE Acclaimed choir from Wuppertal, Kantorei Barmen-Gemarke makes its first visit to the UK and Kent. The Kantorei, founded in 1946, has enjoyed a steadily widening reputation for outstanding performances of European choral sacred music from Renaissance to modern eras. Its conductor and Artistic Director since 1993, Wolfgang Kläsener, has studied and performed church music throughout his professional career, winning several international competitions, and is an accomplished organist. Mendelssohn's Frohlocket, ihr Völker auf Erden sung by Kent Chamber Choir, serves as a celebratory overture for a concert of mostly English and German choral masterpieces. J S Bach's jubilant motet for double choir, Singet dem Herrn, follows, with Kantorei BarmenGemarke next taking the stage for classic anthems by Byrd, Holst, Rheinberger and Parry's valedictory My soul, there is a country far beyond the stars. The choirs join to bring the first half to a close with Handel's exhilarating Zadok the priest. Born in Germany and naturalised a British citizen in 1727, Handel was asked by George II to write four anthems for his coronation later that year. Zadok the priest remains a firm favourite sung at all subsequent coronations. After complimentary interval drinks, the choirs stay together for another of Handel's fine Coronation Anthems, The king shall rejoice. Next, and rarely heard in the UK, is Gretchaninov's Liturgia Domestica. In ceremonial Russian Orthodox style, this is a unique opportunity to enjoy selections from this powerfully moving work. First heard at Charles I's 1626 coronation, I was glad when they said unto me, from Psalm 122, was set thereafter by a number of English composers. Parry's glorious version, composed for Edward VII's crowning in 1902, has since, like Zadok before it, become a fixture on similar royal occasions. A mood of celebration pervades; but a quiet moment of prayerful contemplation makes this magnificent anthem a song of both joy and reflection, and a fitting conclusion to an unmissable evening's entertainment.

The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)
FOLKESTONE QUAKERS NOW MEET IN SANDGATE We would like everyone to know that from 31st July we are holding our Meetings for Worship in
ST. PAUL’S CHURCH HALL st
on the 1 , 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month at 10.30am Anyone is welcome to join us. A Quaker Meeting for Worship is very simple and may be just what you need. It is a coming together in silence in which we ponder the deep issues of life without the constraints of pre-fixed beliefs. Anyone can share a heartfelt thought in the meeting. We don’t answer it or discuss it - we just receive it. In some meetings no-one speaks at all. The meeting ends with handshake and chat over coffee or tea. We also hold house discussion groups and monthly social coffee chats. Quakers have always been prepared to speak out on social issues and act on their convictions, resulting in the practical and social action that we have been known for over the years. www.eastkentquakers.org.uk
