Sandgate Issue 50 November 2016 This newsletter is compiled and edited by David Cowell who is totally responsible for content. If you do not wish to receive these newsletters please email UNSUBSCRIBE to him at david@davidcowell.net

Anyone who has put together a magazine or newsletter will know that an inordinate amount of time is spent on the design, copy and content. I have decided therefore to bring the Sandgate The Sentinel in line with the Hythe and Newington versions and publish just one edition each month on the first Thursday. I may well continue to circulate details of the Sandgate Farmers' Market on the third Thursday and anything else that I think may be of interest or is time critical but not in a magazine format. Also just to remind you that I am happy to publish letters and articles if you would like to submit them.

Old Hall Farm has provided the Sandgate Farmers' Market with high quality, traditionally reared meat, eggs and sausages almost since the beginning and now they are branching out into fruit and vegetables. You'll not find any oranges or bananas on the Marsh Produce stall as they will only sell what can be sourced locally - mainly in Kent but occasionally further afield. Please support this new initiative and help them build a product range that meets your needs.

One Man, Two Guvnors’

An Amateur Production by kind permission of Samuel French Co Ltd

Written by Richard Bean Directed by Pete Raine and Fanny Richmond

The Folkestone - Hythe, Operatic & Dramatic Society

Presents

Another sparkling play for 2016. The Folkestone-Hythe operatic & Dramatic Society present outstanding comedy One Man, Two Guvnors at the Tower Theatre. Thought to be by many to be one of the funniest plays of the last few years. In 1960s Brighton, a socially naive Francis Henshall becomes separately employed by two men – Roscoe Crabbe, a local gangster, and Stanley Stubbers, an upper class criminal. Francis tries to keep the two from meeting, in order to avoid each of them learning that Francis is also working for someone else. However, it turns out that Roscoe is really Rachel Crabbe in disguise, her twin brother Roscoe having been killed by her lover, who is none other than Stanley Stubbers. Mixed in with these chaotic events is Pauline Clench who was originally meant to marry Roscoe but is now set to elope with over-the-top amateur actor Alan Dangle. The play runs from Wednesday 2nd November to Saturday 5th. Start time 7.30 p.m. with a matinee on 5th November at 2.30 p.m. Tickets prices: £11.00 Full £10.00 Concessions £7.00 U14's

Wednesday, 9th November 7 for 7:30 All welcome. No need to book. Great raffle prizes on offer

It's a colourful, outrageous and hilarious comedy An occasional stallholder at the Sandgate Farmers' Market is Avni who set up and runs A Very Nice Idea. They make up meal kits to cater for different sized households, including meals for one so there is no more food waste. They used minimal compostable packaging to eliminate packaging waste. To make them healthy they've ensured that their meals fit in with a healthy diet. They are flexible by supplying only the dry ingredients so that it lasts until you are ready to eat it and you can choose fresh and liquid ingredients to fit in with your dietary requirements, budget and what you fancy, but rest assured, the extras you need are easy to get and you may already have them in your cupboard. And with less that 10 minutes prep time, meal times were never so quick. You can see their products and order from their web site at https:// averyniceidea.com and you can collect your order at the Market even if they are not attending.

Kent County Council's pothole blitz has been going on this summer, the work includes filling individual holes alongside repairs to larger areas which can see multiple potholes repaired at the same time. If you see any un-mended potholes, please could these be reported online, as this is the quickest and easiest way to alert crews to damage to the roads. For the latest updates week-by-week, and to report a pothole, please visit www.kent.gov.uk/potholeblitz . Sandgate Design Statement Three years ago, SPC produced a Design Statement for Sandgate. This document outlines the historical and topographical background, character and appearance of many parts of the parish and thereby provides guidance for householders, planners, developers and other statutory bodies as they consider future development in the parish of Sandgate. The DS complies with the Shepway District Core Strategy and has been adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document. As such, it forms a material consideration in the determination of all planning applications in the parish of Sandgate. The document is a 'living' one and therefore needs to be reviewed and updated. The parish council is setting up a working group to start the review process and we would like to hear the views of local people. If anyone would like to work with the group or would like to send in any comments, please contact the Parish Clerk at Sandgate Parish Council.
