We currently meet on Saturday mornings at the Library between 10:00 and 11:00. This is essentially a drop in service whereby you can make contact with us, and share your views. “Take positive action in a changing world through food, sharing, creativity and wellbeing.
The Historic Houses Association (HHA) represents over 1,640 of the UK's privately and charitably owned historic houses, castles and gardens. These are listed buildings or designated gardens, usually Grade I or II*, and are often outstanding. Many are considered to be iconic symbols of Britain's unique heritage. Around 500 of these properties open their doors to visitors for days out, special tours, school visits, film locations, weddings and events, or as memorable places to stay. 24 million people a year visit HHA Member properties and there are over 45,000 Friends of the HHA. Members range from iconic stately homes such as Blenheim Palace, Highclere Castle, Castle Howard, Knebworth House, Longleat and Burghley House, to more intimate houses such as Traquair in Scotland, Treowen in Wales and Belle Isle in Northern Ireland. Most are still private family homes. The Association was established in 1973 to help owners conserve these wonderful places in the interests of the nation and carries out important lobbying, advisory and marketing work on behalf of Member properties.
Kent Police wanted to make you aware of two updates made to the Kent Police website recently. 'The public can now report crimes and incidents as well as non-injury road traffic collisions ONLINE directly to us through our website (www.kent.police.uk). Once a report is made to us online, the user will receive a unique reference number and a return email confirming receipt. We are promoting both as a test/pilot at this stage. At the end of each form is the opportunity for the public making a report to give us feedback on using the forms. The overall aim is to provide another choice for how the public can report crime or incidents as well as try to reduce the number of people calling 101 on non-urgent issues that could easily be dealt with through digital contact (which increasingly a lot of people prefer and have asked us to provide). From the cutting-edge London design agency Here Design - writer and poet Philip Cowell, and award-winning designer Caz Hildebrand, author of The Herbarium, this playful, original, beautifully designed book brings to life the punctuation marks we use every day, including: The dashing dash So-called "quotation marks" The colon: and on and on. The Grammar of Spice is one of the world’s missing books. It will change the way we understand spices and the role they play in defining not only our food but also our place in the world. The essence of each spice is explored in a brief history peppered with interesting anecdotes and tips, and accompanied by reproductions of surface decoration from Owen Jones’s original book, The Grammar of Ornament. The book is beautiful to look at and hold, packed with well-researched material, and will change the way a generation appreciates the incredible world of flavours and tastes that spices open up to us. Herbarium explores the histories, associations and uses of 100 herbs, as well as providing ideas for both food and wellbeing. Each entry features a specially commissioned illustration with texts that include the botanical name, place of origin, varieties and areas where the herb is most commonly grown. The essence of each herb is explored in a brief history peppered with interesting anecdotes, complemented by suggestions of classic combinations and helpful tips for gardeners. A reference section includes pieces on how to grow and keep herbs, seasonality and a map showing where our herbs are grown. A contemporary evolution of the traditional herbarium, presented in a fresh way for a younger audience and a new generation of cooks, Herbarium will expand readers’ knowledge, improve culinary skills and enhance their appreciation of the incredible world of tastes offered by herbs. 9

I have been making Mayor Bears in support of The Mayors charity. Just thought you might like to see my efforts. It all began when we were invited to a Proms concert for children at St Leonards Church. One of the pieces on the programme was Teddy Bears Picnic so, for a bit of fun, I quickly organised a Mayor Bear teddy complete with Union Jack to wave. I then made one for a Charity raffle prize and was both surprised and delighted to see it get chosen by the first winner. Orders began to trickle in and I’m now up to bear 12. Friends have donated Bears and I have tried to find all sorts of accessories to enhance them. Bits of broken chains, old brooches and large metal buttons all turn in to splendid Civic regalia. Scraps of white lace are hard to find so if anyone has anything appropriate I will be happy to collect if they contact me on waymaker@ntlworld.com Mayoral hats are a challenge as there are several styles. If I have a specific order from a Mayor I try to make sure I make the correct hat! It’s been a lot of fun and I will try and do as many as I can until I run out of materials. When I look at my first attempt made from an old scarf and piece of chain sourced from an old 60’s belt things have moved along quite fast. The Mayor Bear brigade was born!
