October-December 2015
Prayer Needs
A LOOK BACK AT 2015 Two Thousand Fifteen was a big year for us at 3 Measures. Our team this year included David & Sandy Echols, Rayin Uirab, Melissa Faraci (intern) & Nathan Holland who just joined the team. We continued with Thrive Communities, Hope Café and tennis ministry; all while getting things going on a few new startups.
Pray for full time/long term volunteers to come join us in Namibia Work Permit
Thrive Our Thrive Communities exist to promote healthy physical, social & spiritual lives among their members. We currently have a flourishing community for young adults that has been a very strong emphasis for us. This year we met on Sunday afternoons for social gatherings and continued into the evenings with Bible studies. We also had a number of special events, including a camp/retreat in July where we focused on outreach. This community is comprised of about 12 young people in their 20's. It has been amazing to see them grow closer to each other and toward Christ throughout this year. Our other community is a bit different, it is made up of one family that we started meeting with in their home near the end of 2014. This year we have worked to deepen our relationships and continue to lay foundations. We meet each Thursday in their home for a Bible study that is usually led by our partner, Raylin. In 2015 alone we have walked with them through the loss of their mother and the birth of two children. Later this month we will even attend one of their weddings. As part of helping them move toward a physically healthier life, we helped them start up a small business selling sweets from their home. This is supplementing their incomes to keep food on their table.
Hope Café, Tennis & Game Nights As mentioned above, we've continued throughout the year with Hope Café, our free internet café for University students around Katutura. We also continued tennis for the first half of the year. As we stopped tennis we introduced a game night on Wednesday evenings. Young & Pregnant In June we partnered with Beautiful Kidz to run a ministry for young pregnant girls. Sandy has continued to walk with these girls as they begin motherhood.
Community Health Evangelism (CHE) Since July we have been busy starting up a CHE program that will serve as a more direct development tool. We have identified a nearby community called Sonder Water where we have already begun survey work. This has included association mapping in our general area & individual capacity inventories in Sonder Water specifically.
Helping Without Hurting Late in June into August we also led a course for the YWAM staff about poverty alleviation. The series was based on Brian Fikkert's book, When Helping Hurts.
Nathan Holland The Lord has begun to answer our prayers for more workers. Nathan is a missionary to Angola and his wife, Umoyo, is a Zambian doctor practicing in Windhoek. They have recently made the decision to spend between a year and a year and a half in Namibia before returning to Angola. We are so blessed to have them join us at 3 Measures for this time. Nathan will be helping us plant more Thrive communities and to pioneer the vision we've had for expanding to rural northern Namibia. On top of this, Melissa Faraci will be returning to work alongside us from January until May. God is working to bring help at a time when it is very crucial. Please pray for more to say "yes" to the call! It was an exciting year for us at 3 Measures as we are really seeing things take shape. Thank you so much for being a part of it! We are looking forward to seeing what God does in 2016, especially with the additional staff and plans to establish a CHE program.
Support Thank you so much to all of you who support our work here in Namibia! So many of you have given regularly throughout the years and have helped out with special needs and projects.
We are so happy to share with you all that we have finally reached 100% of our budget. That includes ministry funds, administration costs and keeping the Echols in Namibia. This is the first time we've reached full support since entering Namibia in 2010. Eventually our budget will need to increase again, as schooling is very expensive here. Starting in January we will need to pay around $300 per month for Reese's school fees. But for now, we are very excited and thankful to all of you who have invested in God's work in Namibia! If you would like to join the work of Three Measures in Namibia through a monthly commitment or one-time gift, simply go to www.3measur.es/donate OR return the included response card OR contact us at support@3measur.es.
