A Walking foot solution for the high shank Necchis: From: "Deena Flanigan" <deenaflanigan@yahoo.com> Delivered-To: mailing list necchisewingmachineclub@yahoogroups.com Date: Mon, 31 Oct 2011 21:41:10 -0500 Last week I made a trip to my favorite vintage sm dealer with a request for a walking foot and zipper foot to fit Miss Nora. Well they had also set aside a couple of rufflers and a binder for me to try. Scored on the ruffler and zipper/piping foot, but the walking foot just didn't work. While organizing an attachment tin for another machine I saw smaller diameter presser foot screw.....the threads matched up....it was both longer in the threaded part and smaller diameter on the "screw" part......which allowed just enough clearance for the walking foot to operate.....Voila! Enjoying the journey with Miss Nora. Maybe post some pics? We've looked for wf's for our high shank machines without much success. Would you mind telling us how much it cost? And the alternate presser foot screw you found....am I understanding it was in a box of stuff you had.....or did it come from the sm shop? Necchi screws have different threads--metric--than US ones do so you were lucky to find one that fit! Polly Lacy Necchi Lists Owner To: necchisewingmachineclub@yahoogroups.com From: "Deena" deenaflanigan@yahoo.com Date: Wed, 02 Nov 2011 00:19:53 –0000 Well, the box was old, orange, faded, and the only ID was the letters " RWA 2 High Shank. It's slick on the bottom, no rubber, overall width of both soles is 21/32......Today was at the Bernina store checking their stock of high shank attachments and the AlphaSew WF use the same numbering system, and the slant shank box was the size and shape of my vintage box....yellow now instead of orange.....the owner took a few out to inspect, all these had "teeth" on one of the soles, but otherwise they look very similar. I think the key was the screw; the Necchi screw diameter fought with the arm of the outer sole, the screw that ended up working was enough longer and slimmer to bypass the arm. It was in a box of attachments for a 1963 Montgomery Wards Happy; have no idea if it was supposed to be in there or not!! I'll get a photo of the foot off, and on, and the screws side by side in the morning light. The walking foot I got several years ago at a Singer Store….a generic foot from Taiwan, looks very much like Deena’s but it does have a gripping surface on the bottom of the outer strips of the foot. It was very “clanky” every time I tried to use it on the machine and finally came apart. Cindy Peters loaned me one she sells to try and it was just like mine. It enabled me to at least put mine back together. After Deena’s post, I tried a different screw, similar to the one shown below, and the WF now works fine. So the original presser foot screw has too large a head for the WF; use a smaller head screw and Voila! Polly PICS OF DEENA’S WALKING FOOT AND SCREWS. hope this info helps someone find a walking foot workaround - I know I just got lucky this time!.....Deena in Arkansas

The screw on the right is the one that worked.9
