The Art of the Car Show Board Even before the first car show, car lovers have always taken pride in their vehicles. Whether they take extreme care in preserving the showroom condition of their car, or show some creativity in doing something a little bit different, every car has its own unique story. For most people the car show is where they share their story with others that share their passion. And for those who want to share the unique features of their car, the car show board has been the sure fire way of doing just that.

In the early days, the car show sign usually was usually a sheet of aluminum or steel that was hand lettered with the details and specs of a vehicle. Usually decorated with brilliant fonts and pinstriping, the classic car show sign was a labor-intensive ordeal, usually costing a small fortune to make. This usually kept a sign out of the reach of your average Joe with their weekend warrior. The cost wasn’t the only factor, the size and weight of even an aluminum car show board also was a big factor in people not getting a car show board. Because of the digital revolution, a new type of car show board has grabbed the hearts of car enthusiast. A board that features more colors, photographic images, and a limitless amount of what can be included on it has taken the place of the traditional show car board. Gary Hedlin from ShowCarSigns.com has been at the forefront of this car show board revolution, starting

his business back in 2005. “We started with the idea of making a car show sign that did more than inform people about a car, but showed the car as you would normally see it with the hood down, not with the hood up. That’s where the concept of incorporating pictures of the car into the car show sign came from.”Hedlin said. “From here it was just a question of what else should we put on the car show board, but the answer really became whatever the customer wanted.” The portfolio of ShowCarSign.com features everything from 1914 Dodge sedans to 2015 Corvettes, pretty much every car from every era of the automobile. And they contain everything from the basic specs to the car, to window stickers, build sheets, pictures of cars from the build process, to awards the vehicles have won. “We’ve never said no to any request because we actually enjoy the process of making it all come together” Hedlin said. And the car show board itself is completely different than its predecessors. Hedlin designs the car show board in Photoshop, then after the customer approves the draft it’s printed on a photographic inkjet printer. Then after lamination the car show sign is mounted on a highstrength PVC sign board. The car show sign even come with a polished leg to keep it upright, but some choose to use an easel to put it at eye level. “We’ve put a lot of thought into making a car show sign that will stand up to anything, and these do the job nicely.”Hedlin stated.
