The Fight for Gay Rights The fundamental human rights according to the provisions made by the United Nations, allows for the freedom of association and in addition to this, people have the right to be and do whatever they want as long as it is not in hindrance or interference with any other person’s rights or freedom. It is in this vein that people belonging to the LGBT and their activists push for the gay rights and other such rights. While it might not be a societal norm to have people from the same sex have intimate and sensual relationships and feelings for each other, activists from all over the world have employed the use of different media, clamouring for the freedom of association and to live for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender people. From the internet and social media, to street protests, the No Hate campaign with the hashtag #NOH8 and other platforms and campaigns have continued to make their voices heard and push for the right of people under this category to live and enjoy the other basic live utilities just like any other person. The gay rights campaign have been particularly taken to the social media with the likes of Facebook, Nterestin, and Twitter being at the forefront of the campaign as online activists took to these media to make their feelings heard. It was a spectacular campaign when virtually the whole of Facebook went red with the “=” posted anywhere and everywhere you turned. This was also replicated offline with supporters of gay-marriage advocating for equality. The Human Rights Campaign is one movement that can be hugely credited for the success of the campaign in the United States and even across the globe. People from all walks of life joined in the campaign and it has continued to remain the supportive to this very day. If the effect of the internet and its resources especially the social media is to continue then gay rights and equality to all isn’t that far away. Even the most powerful person in the entire free world, President Barack Obama, has also tweeted his support for same-sex marriage and equal rights for all.
