Ada Jenkins Center Mission: Ada Jenkins Center exists to help people in our community create lasting solutions for health, education, and economic stability. Opportunity: Ada Jenkins Center is looking for enthusiastic mentors to help our students mature, educationally and mentally, during their middle school experience. We need a team of committed volunteers who will show up on a weekly basis to assist in various daily activities for our Bridge program. Arts & Science Council Mission: Ensuring access to an excellent, relevant, and sustainable cultural community for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Region. Opportunity: ASC's diverse program repertoire presents various volunteer opportunities for students interested in engaging with the many different communities in the CharlotteMecklenburg region. Examples of event volunteer opportunities include: • Culture blocks: provides year-round free/accessible cultural programming in seven geographical blocks of Charlotte, such as African Drum Circles, Visual Arts and Music workshops, among so many other forms of Art and Culture. • Culture Feast: Outdoor Celebration of Art and Culture in Uptown Charlotte hosting food from local restaurants. Due to the diversity of events ASC hosts, volunteer opportunities vary from event to event, though may generally range from 2-3 hours a week. Carolina Raptor Center Mission: Carolina Raptor Center ignites imaginations and inspires engagement in the natural world through the exploration and rehabilitation of birds of prey. Opportunity: Throughout the course of the year, the Carolina Raptor Center Volunteer Department recruits, trains, and manages over 800 volunteers. The Volunteer Engagement intern works alongside the Volunteer Coordinator to help oversee this team of hard-working, dedicated volunteers. A semester commitment of 12 hours each week is required. This is a nontraditional administrative internship where you’ll be exposed to lots of different management situations that can prepare you for a future in any type of work setting. Charlotte Bilingual Preschool Mission: Charlotte Bilingual Preschool prepares Spanish-speaking children for success in school and life by providing superior dual-language early childhood education. The preschool supports students’ families with parenting, life skills and English-language classes, enabling them to sustain and nurture their children’s educational and emotional development. Opportunity: Volunteers can assist teachers with the preparation and organization of materials, assist in the Parent Program by volunteering in classes for ESL, computer literacy, and financial literacy, as well as help with administrative duties. Job Description: The Marketing & Communications Intern is part of Classroom Central's Development Team. Davidson College Presbyterian Church Preschool Mission: We believe children are unique individuals. Children learn by doing and fully experiencing their environment. Opportunity: Our Weekday Preschool is located on the campus of Davidson College. Our hours are 9:00-12:30, M-F. Students can volunteer any number of hours they choose. Davidson Community Garden Mission: Bring together people from the entire community to grow abundant, healthy food to donate to the Loaves and Fishes food pantry at Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson. Opportunity: Volunteers will: • Join with community volunteers to tend the garden and harvest on Saturday mornings 10-11:30. • Work alone or with a college crew during week for tending or harvesting. Possibly being a crew chief to recruit and lead volunteers • Design and implement a project or internship individually or as a group to better meet the mission or enhance the visible appeal of garden (such as trying new plants or new ways of enhancing the soil or building structures for visual appeal). • Develop ways to enhance the relationship with garden, food pantry, and community. Davidson Farmers Market Mission: The mission of Davidson Farmer’s Market is to sponsor a weekly farmer’s Market in Davidson which provides locally grown food, educates the public about nutrition and the importance of eating locally grown foods and offers musical entertainment, special events and cooking and other demonstrations to create a community festival for the Town. DFM’s goal is to create a vibrant community gathering place with locally grown agricultural and horticultural products and family-friendly educational, musical and entertainment activities. The Market offers locally grown fruits and vegetables, meats, and cheeses produced by sustainable or organic methods when possible. Other agriculturally based products such as breads, eggs, honey, flowers and soaps are also offered. And prepared foods, pastas and ready-to-eat foods too! Are you an early riser? We need reliable volunteers to set up our vendor tents and assist with the overall set up of the market. This includes helping vendors as needed, preparing the Market Tent, placement of signs and banners, and occasional event set up. Market Day Clean Up Crew – Market Day Volunteer (11:45am-12:30pm Saturdays) Prefer to sleep in? We need reliable volunteers to help pack up our tents in addition assisting vendors with packing up their tents and loading up their cars if necessary. In addition, volunteers will help make sure that the area used for the market has been cleared of any trash or debris. Market Day Traffic Counter – Market Day Volunteer (8:00-10:00 am – 10:00am-12:00 pm Saturdays) Use a hand-held tally counter to track how many customers visit the market each week. This job can be done by one person each week, or shared among several volunteers. Market Day Welcome Tent Ambassador (8:00-10:00 am – 10:00am-12:00 pm Saturdays) Be the face of the market! Friendly, helpful volunteers needed to assist customers in our Welcome Tent. (i.e. assist with market promotions, answer questions about vendors, meet and greet shoppers and to work with the manager on helping to insure a safe, friendly market environment) This job can be done by one person each week, or shared among several volunteers. Market Day Photographer (8:00-10:00 am – 10:00am-12:00 pm Saturdays) Provide high resolution, high quality digital images of vendors, products, entertainers, events, etc. Images will be used by the Davidson Farmers Market and on-line media marketing. Davidson Green School Mission: Davidson Green School’s mission is to create a more sustainable future through education. Through hands on and experiential curriculum, students learn how to put the social, economical, and environmental aspects of sustainability into action, creating a more compassionate and regenerative world. Davidson Housing Coalition Mission: The mission of the Davidson Housing Coalition is to work with the larger community to preserve and create affordable housing options, and to prepare families and individuals for financial stability and homeownership. Opportunity: The DLC has numerous volunteer opportunities for Davidson students. Our largest annual fundraiser is our 13th annual Run for Green event held September 15, 2018. We will need approximately 150 volunteers to make a smooth race and would love to have students help! We also have a paid summer internship through the Roy Alexander Summer Internship with Davidson College, and welcome non-paid interns any time during the school year. E2D - Eliminate the Digital Divide Mission: The mission of E2D is to ensure that all students have affordable access to essential athome technology and digital literacy training to support academic success and prepare students for college, careers, and beyond. Opportunity: We need help at our large laptop distributions to local students/families that need access to technology at home. Volunteers will work with families to provide basic digital training and other tasks. One Saturday per month, 3-4 hours, basic computer skills needed. Food For Thought Program Mission: Food For Thought is a family program that aims to improve children's literacy and math skills through family food routines such as grocery shopping and cooking. This project is currently being implemented in 17 CMS schools and is funded by the Brady Education Foundation. Opportunity: Interns will be involved in implementing and evaluating the Food For Thought program in CMS schools. Interns will work with Latinx kindergarten children and their families. Interns with interact with teachers and school staff. Schools are located in Charlotte. Hours vary depending on the month, but typically range from 4-6 hours. Only weekdays. No weekends. There is flexibility in the number of hours per week a student works. Skills required: Must speak and read Spanish. If you learned Spanish (in high school or took courses during your first year) and have not practiced since then, do not worry. You will have

Foundation for Respect Ability Mission: Our goal is to empower bystanders to become Upstanders who address bullying in all its forms through using music, creative arts and character education. Opportunity: A volunteer interested in learning about our anti bullying program and working with us possibly in the school as well as helping us go through paper work produced by our students that expresses their feelings, emotions and solutions in regard to bullying in the Elementary grades. Habitat for Humanity Charlotte Mission: Seeking to put god's love into action, Habitat Charlotte brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Opportunity: Groups of 4-12 are welcome to volunteer at our ReStore on Wendover Road for 3-4 hours Mondays-Saturdays. Tasks include unloading donation, cleaning and tagging items, carrying donations to the salesfloor. Individuals and groups are needed to repair and build homes in the city of Charlotte and town of Pineville. Shifts are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays. HealthReach Community Clinic Mission: To make a significant contribution to the health and well-being of our friends and neighbors in need. Opportunity: HealthReach is a free medical clinic and pharmacy serving low-income, uninsured individuals in Iredell County. Interns are needed to assist with data entry & analysis, patient registration, Spanish interpretation, fund development, telephoning patients, filing, and many other administrative tasks. Heart Math Tutoring Mission: To ensure that all elementary students develop the strong foundation in math and enthusiasm for academics needed for long-term success, by helping schools use volunteers as tutors Opportunity: Provide one-on-one math tutoring for CMS students. Volunteers commit 1 hour or 30 minutes per week from late September until early May (only 20-25 sessions). Heart provides an easy-to-follow curriculum with hands-on activities and games, and a staff person is onsite to make sure things run smoothly. No prior experience required. La Escuelita San Alban Bilingual Preschool Mission: La Escuelita San Alban provides native Spanish speaking preschool children in the Lake Norman area a solid foundation for Kindergarten and elementary school by teaching them basic classroom language and social skills, exposing them to arts, science and sports, and instilling in them a love for learning in a safe, loving and faith-filled bilingual classroom environment. Lake Norman Community Health Clinic Mission: To serve as a medical home for the area's uninsured. Opportunity: Internship: Pre-Medicine The internship requires a minimum of 4 hours per week at our location in Huntersville. Loaves & Fishes Mission: Loaves & Fishes provides a week’s worth of nutritionally balanced groceries to individuals and families experiencing a short-term crisis through a network of 30 emergency food pantries located throughout Mecklenburg County. Mooresville Soup Kitchen Mission: Our mission is to provide nourishing meals, fellowship, and encouragement to those in need. Opportunity: We have various volunteer opportunities such as Food Rescue Drivers, Food Movers, Appreciation Clerk, Fantastic Food Sorters, Cook Team Members, Clean Team and more. Our internship opportunity consists of working with the Executive Director of the soup kitchen. She will have you research events, places, resources, etc. She will ask you to create different documents for programs, write letters, fill out applications, and create a variety of different documents. You must be familiar with word, google docs/google sheets, and flexible in what she asks you to do. This job requires someone who can think outside the box and be creative when creating these documents. Our Towns Habitat for Humanity Mission: Our Towns Habitat for Humanity seeks to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. Habitat builds offer volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups, on weekends and weekdays, for the novice or the pro. Saturday build days are a popular way for newcomers to get involved, and are also great for those who can only volunteer occasionally. Volunteer days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday 7:45 am to 1:00 pm. Tasks include (framing, trusses, roofing, vinyl siding, paint walls & trim, interior trim, interior hardware and landscaping). No construction experience is required. Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina Mission: The mission of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina is to feed hungry people by soliciting and distributing food and household items through partner agencies. Second Harvest works to educate people in the community about the nature of and solutions to the problem of hunger. Opportunity: SHFB volunteers help us inspect, sort and box up donated food or non-food items so that we can distribute those items to our 724 non-profit agencies, which includes homeless shelters, emergency pantries, soup kitchens and low-income daycare centers. Our distribution area is 14 counties in NC and 5 counties in SC. Shifts are Tuesday thru Friday 9-12 or 1-4. Tuesday and Thursday evening 6-8pm and on Saturday 9-12 or 1-3.
