What is Biomass Energy Biomass is biological material derived from living, or recently living organisms. In the context of biomass as a resource for making energy, it most often refers to plants or plant-based materials which is not used for food or feed, and are specifically called lignocellulosic biomass. Biomass energy is the energy which is contained inside plants and animals. This can include organic matter of all kinds: plants, animals, or waste products from organic sources. Biomass is a renewable energy resource derived from the carbonaceous waste of various human and natural activities.
