Details Part 3

a musings production

Welcome to the 3rd installment of the details books, these continue my obsession with the details and intimate landscapes of life. In the process of this book if I have any particular feelings I will add them to the bottom of the image, describing what drew me to the image. This book was made late March 2020 and is for the benefit of both myself and anyone who wants to look at it. Davie Hudson

I love industrial art and this particular one was part of a series... This particular one being a 1" to 2" Micrometer, used in precision engineering.

Another in the industrial series showing a workbench drawer. I love the colour of the wood contrasting with the brass of the keyhole and all the marks and scratches around it, this thing has had a life and still going strong.

A memory inducer for me, as a former trumpet player this is very familiar to me. I decided during editing that I wanted monochrome for this as it represents melancholy, blues and just downright cool to me.

The leaf contrasting against the wood is what I wanted people to see here, combine that with the Autumn colours and this shot is very evocative.

Cherry Blossoms, what can I say? They are deeply rooted in my body, mind and soul ... the poster child (for me) of the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi they are perfectly imperfect, lasting only a month on the tree and forever in the soul.

A shot like this looks simple, it's a leaf, right? Well yes it is ,but, it works not because of the leaf but because the out of focus parts are balanced in such a way to enjoy the sharp leaf at the front.

There is sadness in this image, the end of a season ... As someone once said "Sad is happy for deep people"

Images like this will appear often in my portfolio, if anything they represent life .... we all need one piece of sharpness to hold onto and whatever yours is, hold on for dear life.

These next 2 images couldn't be further apart, size wise .... One is part of a massive building in Glasgow and this one is the moss on a tree trunk, but both of them has a beauty in design... One man made and one nature made.

Soap Bubble Bokeh ... it's the background blur and the colour balance that makes this shot work. This is the kind of image where I focus without focussing in that the subject is irrelevent and the image is made by colour tone and balance.

Something that looks delicate but is still holding on, there is a life lesson in that.

This has a double meaning, I loved the heart on top of the gate and the intrigue and it was shot in a way to make it look sinister... whats at the end of that path? Nothing? An old haunted house? Not knowing is the basis of this image.

Rust, rust, glorious rust! The most obvious sign of having a life ... I love the colours and look of rust.

I'm just going to sit and look at this for a while, The flags remind me of Buddhist prayer flags and there is nothing but happiness and contentment associated with that.

The day this image was made I was out with members of The Society of Scottish Landscape Photographers and I was the only one to stop here. The wear on the metal and the light bouncing off the leaves made it right up my alley.

Life always finds a way, even in an old slate quarry.. and those colours!!!

If the wire wasn't there I wouldn't have bothered, but it is and it intrigued me to a point that I had to.

Made on the day Storm Ciara hit I saw this white water as snowy mountain tops and wanted to isolate the crashing of the wave to bring you to exactly what inspired me.

It's all about the moss, the multi shades of green and the fact it looks like fur ... it is beautiful to me.

These inspire hope to me... whatever is going on in the world the cherry blossom continue to blossom, if they can, we can.

This old van was glorious!! It was so worn down it should have been put in an art gallery! Like many of the other images in this book it was shot on film and i'm so glad I now know where it is. The image on the opposite page is the polaroid of that very van.

These 2 were made in exactly the same spot, I was originally drawn to the ice on the leaves when the horse came over to say hello.

This image had to be mono, and square.... I know I made this image but I love the tone of it, it's so deep.

A rose my any other name..... Shot with expired film which has altered the colour tone to a beautiful muted one.

Contentment, peace, happiness .... Thats all I see here.

Can something be dark, sinister and beautiful ... it can to me.

Sharp alone in a sea of blur.

When everyone in the world is black and white .... be yellow. Never be afraid to be diferent.

Padlocked to an old shed on the Glen Etive Road and often stolen and replaced I wanted to get one last shot of the bike still standing but alas I was too late.

I'm never going to apologise for ending this book with Cherry Blossoms. If you've come through a hard winter when everything is grey and drab and suddenly the flowers start to blossom and they are PINK! They represent everything good and pure and as i've stated are a symbol of hope to millions of people who see them as much more than a flower, I am one of those people and I always will be.

Thank you for looking, and if this has giving any kind of peace then I am content with that. Over the next few weeks/ months I plan on doing more of these on various subjects such as non-landscape images and my cameras. Once again, thank you
