A key aim of the project was to create a series of connected and accessible agile-working spaces to encourage collaboration between members of staff, and also collaboration with the company’s clients and partners, delivering the project’s DNA - “Better Together”. These collaboration areas are complemented by spaces that promote privacy, quiet and focus, including a wellness area and well appointed library. This balanced approach provides users with the opportunity to find the right environment for their activities.

The office’s more traditional workspace areas have been organised in new neighbourhood groupings to encourage cross-department knowledge sharing. Each workstation is equipped with a Knoll Generation task chair, a chair designed with a focus on flexibility and communication, as well as market leading ergonomics. One of Montagu Evans key project aims was to use improved and forward thinking technology to support their commitment to work without boundaries. Day2 helped achieve this aim through the intelligent integration of technology into furniture solutions.

The fit-out has been awarded a BREEAM Excellent rating, matching the building rating achieved by the 70 St Mary Axe development. And just to add complexity to an already ambitious project, the new space was delivered on time during the 2020/21 COVID-19 lockdown. A monumental effort by all involved.

SHURE INC The Shure name has become synonymous with the highest quality audio electronics in the fit-out industry, so we were proud to be appointed by the Shure UK team to deliver furniture for the Rose Shure Experience Centre, an innovative new Central London show space named after the company’s former Chairman Rose L. Shure. Having successfully integrated Shure technology into meeting room suites at landmark projects for McKinsey & Partners and Schroders, Shure looked to Day2 to offer specialist insight into how best to display and demonstrate their AV products in custom furniture solutions.

The challenge set by the Shure team was to seamlessly integrate their technology into the furniture in the demonstration suites, whilst keeping it visible and accessible to clients. Day2 worked closely with Opus Magnum, a South London based specialist in bespoke tabling solutions, to develop a suite of custom meeting tables in response to the brief. Opus Magnum’s innovative ‘Balance’ system allows table bases to be fixed to a raised floor, removing the need for a traditional base plate. The resulting tables have an elegant, quiet design and intelligently concealed cabling, letting Shure’s products be the star of the show.

Alongside three state-of-the-art meeting rooms and a multi-purpose training suite, Day2 also delivered a systems furniture package for the client’s back office. Knoll’s Tone height adjustable workstation and Re-Generation task chairs are used throughout, combined with Colourfold storage units in private offices to create a simple but effective alternative to a traditional work wall.
An Allermuir Silta standing table is combined with Brunner Crona Light timber barstools and a cleverly concealed whiteboard to create an ad-hoc huddle space to encourage collaboration with staff and clients. The Silta table includes concealed charging points and cabling, meeting the client’s brief for intelligent technology integration.

Brunner’s A-Chair was selected for both the café space and the feature training suite, allowing the two spaces to be brought together to form a larger town hall type conference space, without compromising the design scheme. The A-Chair is an excellent solution to this type of brief, combining a simple attractive design with a high level of functionality.

WESTERN ASSET MANAGEMENT In February 2021, Day2 delivered a project with a difference to Western Asset Management’s office at 10 Exchange Square. The client’s brief was to refurbish and upcycle as much of their existing furniture as possible, and focus on responsible procurement routes for new pieces, with the aim of minimising the carbon footprint of the furniture package. We are proud to say the efforts of the whole project team resulted in a SKA Gold rating. This project has been an extremely valuable learning exercise for the Day2 team as we build our capabilities for refurbishing and repurposing furniture as part of our new sustainability initiative.

Existing meeting tables have been reused throughout the new office, including in this stunning boardroom with a view. Day2 upcycled the client’s 15-year old veneer boardroom table by integrating new technology solutions and contracting a specialist french polisher to bring the original veneer finish back to life. The client’s leather Eames chairs are still in perfect condition, arguably looking even better with the patina gained through years of use, proving that investing in high quality furniture pays off in the long run.

Where new furniture was required, the Day2 team focused on specifying furniture from UK manufacturers committed to quality and longevity. New storage solutions were required in meeting rooms and open plan work areas to accommodate new technology and ways of working. New steel caddies were specified from Bisley, a member of the Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme, and new credenzas were supplied by Tables for Business.

One of the biggest challenges when working in the student accommodation sector is delivering durable, high quality product at a competitive price-point. We tackled this challenge by balancing higher spends on key pieces such as dining chairs and upholstery with robust, low cost, UK made product solutions for tabling and storage. We look forward to working in this challenging and rewarding sector again in the future.
