U N I V E R S I T Y O F D AY T O N W O M E N ’ S S O C C E R I ALWAYS dreamed of playing Division I collegiate soccer. The day I stepped on the University of Dayton campus, I knew I found my home. I owe an endless amount of thanks to Coach Tucker, and the University for giving me the opportunity to be a part of such an unbelievable program and school. My four years on campus as a Flyer hold many of my fondest memories. I remember the feeling Friday night stepping onto Baujan. I remember the intense, competitive 2v2 before every game. I remember the trips, the team dinners, the meetings, the fitness tests. I remember the parents’ tailgates and support, even when we were across the country. I remember the championships won, the NCAA tourney games and the tough losses. I remember the blood, the ripped jerseys, the sweat, the tears and the laughter. But most of all, I remember the teammates and coaches I did this all with. I know I am blessed to have these experiences and memories so close to my heart. What an incredible group of people to support you, love you and believe in you! If anyone would tell me there was a better place to spend those four years of my life, I wouldn’t believe them. I wish with all my heart I could go back and do it again! It is with utmost pride, even today, that I am able to call myself Flyer. - Reba Sedlacek ‘05
Being a Dayton Flyer is something I will never forget. So many memories, both on and off the field, were sandwiched between the team/family picnic the first day I arrived on campus to the banquet following my senior year. Who can forget the road trips, the Baujan Field atmosphere, the competition and the success? Those things were like no other, but what I really took away from the program was the relationships and the camaraderie. Coach Tucker had (and still has) a knack for recruiting amazing players, but more importantly as it turns out, he recruited my best friends. Friends I will have for life who share a bond that’s difficult to describe – a kind of exclusivity that only we understand. - Liz Brown Rose ‘03
“ The day I stepped on the University of Dayton campus, I knew I found my home.
”
AN EXPERIENCE THAT STAYS WITH YOU FOR LIFE I am forever grateful for the experiences I had while playing for the University of Dayton women’s soccer team. I respected Tucker as a coach and as the head of our program, but even more as a person. I knew him to be a wonderful father, grandfather and husband. I am inspired by Tucker’s commitment to his players, even after they have left his program. I’ve thought this so many times, but my time on the UD women’s soccer team is one of my most treasured experiences and memories. There are times when I think about it and I miss it, and I realize what I really miss are the people; my teammates, and coaches. There are things that you know will have to come to an end, so you try to savor each moment, and even though you are still a little sad when it’s over, you can look back and just be grateful you got to have that in your life. I am so grateful I had those four years as a Flyer! - Sarah Walker Gantz ‘01
Whether it was the first day of preseason, a tough conditioning session, or gearing up for our first Sweet 16 appearance – there is not a memory from my years as part of the Dayton Women’s Soccer Program that I do not cherish. Dayton Soccer is more than having the opportunity of playing and competing in the sport you love at the Division I level. It is about playing alongside friends and for coaches that will stand by you long after your days of playing defense and scoring goals have passed. The opportunities that I have had because of my involvement with the Flyer family are second to none. Being a contributor to the Dayton Soccer tradition is one my greatest accomplishments and the skills that I developed during those four years have contributed to the leader that I strive to be in my family and career today. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Coach Tucker for believing in my ability to contribute to this program and providing me with the opportunity to play and represent such the amazing community of UD. Go Flyers! - Megan McKnight Mahle ‘01

2008 YEAR IN REVIEW
Tucker has a long tradition of molding his studentathletes into winners both on the field, and more importantly, in the classroom. Under Tucker, the Flyers have captured 10 consecutive Team Academic Awards (team GPA of 3.0 or higher) from the NSCAA, while eight Flyers have earned Academic All-District recognition and four have been named Academic All-America. Former Flyer Shannon Kuhl, who graduated in 2003, was selected First Team Academic All-America in back-to-back seasons. Amanda Gallow was a second team selection in 2008. The team has had 14 selected to the A-10 All-Academic Team, with Stephanie Weisenfeld (2002) and Megan McKnight (2001) being chosen as the Atlantic 10’s Student-Athlete of the Year.
HISTORY
In 2004, Dayton made its fifth NCAA Championship appearance, won its eighth A-10 regular season crown and its fifth A-10 tournament title. UD, which was ranked 20th in the final top 25 poll, set a school record with its 20-2 mark. The Flyers also took the nation’s longest winning streak - a team-record 20 games - into the Big Dance. A conference-record eight Atlantic 10 regular season championship banners and five tournament championship banners hang at Baujan Field. UD has made five NCAA Championship appearances. All of these team accolades have come since joining the conference in 1995 -Tucker’s first year at the helm. The 2001 campaign came as a shock to many and a surprise to most. After a rocky 2-5 start, the Flyers rallied off an electrifying and then-school record 15-straight wins, carrying them all the way to the Sweet 16 of the Women’s College Cup. UD swept its conference slate, going a perfect 11-0-0. UD blanked its first and second round opponents in the NCAA Tournament - Maryland, 1-0, and Miami, 2-0, to reach round three. The Cinderella Flyers finally met their match, falling 3-1 to #3 UCLA in Los Angeles in the Sweet 16. UD ended with a No. 16 national ranking. Tucker’s efforts earned him his first A-10 Coach of the Year honor as Erin Showalter was named A-10 Defensive Player of the Year and Tesia Kozlowski earned Rookie of the Year honors. In all, nine Flyers earned a total of 35 postseason awards.

2009 SEASON PREVIEW IN TUCKER’S WORDS Exciting. Skillful. Hungry. Those are the three words University of Dayton women’s soccer coach Mike Tucker thinks best describe his 2009 squad. “I know our seniors (Mandi Bäck, Cara Cornacchia, Colleen Gibson, Lauren MacCormick, Lauren Maybury, Caitlin Proffitt) worked really hard in preparation for a year that will be special for them.” “Lisa Rodgers was in net and performed very well against big-name teams we played last year. She is good. She can do it all. We also have two freshmen (Katherine Boone and Jackie Thompson) coming in who can play. It’s going to be a good, competitive situation. Coach Gonzalez is going to have a lot of fun in goalkeeper training and working them. Whoever we have in net is going to be able to give us a great performance.” THE WALL: “Kathleen Beljan at left defender is quick, hard to beat and no one runs behind her. Alli Giner on the right side…Wow! The job she did. She is a battler. She has great pace and is skillful coming out of the back. She was a revelation for us last fall and she’ll be even better with experience this year. Kelsey Miller was the unsung hero. She was really the key to organizing and keeping the defense solid all year. She wins balls, keeps possession and she is just a brilliant central defender. Senior Lauren Maybury played a lot for us prior to injury. She gives us size, experience and strength.”
“We have the team. Now is the time. Let’s get it done.”
Mandi Bäck goes into her senior season as a three-time First Team Atlantic 10 selection.
“Mandi is up there among the best players in UD women’s soccer. Certainly, Mandi’s numbers and her accomplishments speak for themselves. She is a special player.” 13
FRONT & CENTER: “Mandi Bäck and Lauren MacCormick played brilliantly in the spring and are just carrying on their development as forwards. Jerica DeWolfe had a really good year last season. We expect her to score some big goals for us. Kelly Blumenschein will play some up top and some in the midfield. She scored big goals for us last year and she is capable. Caitlin Proffitt provides instant energy in every game. Josie Grant gives us a physical presence we haven’t had for some time.”
“We’ve got a number of freshmen who will contribute – they’re all so good. It will depend how they develop early on. They could jump in the mix just like Emily Kenyon did last year.”
THE MIDDIES: “Cara Cornacchia is really skillful and can do so much as far as setting up other players. Colleen Gibson has been an incredible player for us. I’m looking for her to have such a huge senior year. She scares other teams. Emily Kenyon transitioned up in the midfield from the back last year and really solidified us, defensively. We moved Tori Oelschlager to the outside and she did really well. She’s going to be a fixture there. Kelsey Owen had a really nice freshman year and scored some pretty strong goals for us.”
“We’re going to go battle. I think the league is going to be stronger than it has in the past. Whoever comes out and wins the league this year is really going to have to earn it. We’re going to have the kind of schedule that will prepare us to play anyone.”

Mallon was also a four-time All-AACA and Courier Times selection at Villa Joseph Marie, including First Team all-league from 2006-08...Was named the 2008 AACA MVP after leading her team to a league championship and PIAAA District runner-up finish...Scored nine goals and dished 13 assists that season, also an All-State selection...Led Villa Joseph Marie to two State championships and a 69-11-6 record in her four years...Led FC Bucks Vipers to six consecutive State Cup Championships (2003-08), including a Regional Championship in 2008. Personal: Daughter of Sue Mallon and the late Kerry Mallon… Has two older brothers Kevin and Gregg Korondi…Kevin played soccer at Hartwick and coached at New Hampshire and Virginia Tech…Born Aug. 26, 1990...Major: Undecided Education. Coach Tucker’s Take: Skillful, athletic and savvy, Alysha is very comfortable in the back or as a wide attacking player. She, along with fellow ‘09 signee Colleen Williams, played a key role in helping her FC Bucks club team to a 2008 final four appearance in the club national tournament and a ranking of No. 1 in the country! Alysha is an impact player and we are excited to have her in a Flyer uniform!

Coach Tucker’s Take: A late commitment from Alison was most welcome as she has the ability to impact almost anywhere on the pitch. Alison was a prolific scorer in high school, with staggering numbers of assists and goals. And she excelled as a defender with the Region I Olympic Development squad. Possessing very good speed and quickness and a strong technical base, Ali can be a contributor in 2009.

Coach Tucker’s Take: With a background including training with our youth national team and a being a key member of a high school state championship squad, Alexis brings tremendous potential for success to the Flyers. Expect to see her in an attacking role -either playing in the midfield or up top - but you will definitely see “Lex” on the field in 2009. She is a tremendous competitor and full of enthusiasm.

CLASS........ > FR POSITION.......... > D HOMETOWN............... >COLUMBUS, OH HIGH SCHOOL............. > UPPER ARLINGTON
Prior to UD: Alle was a two-time Defender of the Year at Upper Arlington...Named captain in 2008 and led Upper Arlington to the Division I State Quarterfinals...Was a Second Team AllOhio Capital Conference selection as a junior and was named to the Central Ohio All-Star Team as a senior...Helped her team to three Central District Championships and a 60-7-12 overall record in her four seasons. Personal: Daughter of Frank and Julie Pacetta…Has an older brother Frankie…Born March 13, 1991...Major: Undeclared Sciences.
Coach Tucker’s Take: With the attitude, athleticism and skills needed to be a standout player, Alle should fit quite well into the last line of defenders for the Flyers. She has played at a high level in club and high school and could develop into a skillful attacker coming out of the back. Alle will push our youthful defenders and compete for time in her freshman season.

Coach Tucker’s Take: After playing a key role in Fenwick’s run to a state championship, Shannon will focus on helping lead the Flyers to the top as well. The first words to describe Shannon are “tough” and “fearless”. She is great in the air, can push forward and be dangerous in the attack or hold the middle of the field defensively. HISTORY
SHANNON DONOHER
Coach Tucker’s Take: With a combination of great size, speed and quickness, Clare is a real force anywhere on the pitch. As a central defender she competes well in the air, has great recovery speed and has the skills to start the attack. As an attacker she is a constant threat to get behind defenses. There is no doubt that this 2009 high school all-state athlete will contribute immediately and can be a dominant player in whatever role she fills.
2008 YEAR IN REVIEW
Coach Tucker’s Take: A very fast, athletic attacker with a strong left foot, Jordan is a developing player who will benefit greatly in this training environment. Jordan is a strong finisher who could spend some time as a forward or wide in the midfield.

A D M I N I S T R AT I O N
UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT
Tim Wabler
VICE PRESIDENT/DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS
Since Wabler has been part of the Dayton Athletics Division, the Flyers have experienced significantly improved competitive success. Since 1998, UD has had 26 conference championships and had 20 teams reach the post-season. In the nine years prior to 1998, the Flyers had only seven conference championships and one tournament appearance.
A sociologist by training, he is passionate about issues of social justice. In 2007, he received the Joseph E. Lowery Human Rights Legacy Award from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference as well as the Humanitarian Award from the National Conference for Community and Justice of Greater Dayton for his “personal advocacy and energy toward building a more inclusive community.”
Dr. Curran spent 23 years in various administrative and faculty positions at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, most recently as executive vice president and vice president for academic affairs. Dr. Curran and his wife, Claire, have two sons, Sean and Aidan.
Megan PEASE
Assistant Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator Flyer student-athlete and administrator Megan Pease returned to UD in August 2008. Pease was a standout volleyball player from 1999 to 2003. After graduation, she first worked in the Athletics Division as UD’s Compliance Coordinator for all 17 Flyer sports teams from 2004 to 2006. She assisted UD’s Associate Director of Athletics in all areas of NCAA and A-10 regulations. She then was Dayton’s Assistant Director of Marketing for one year before taking a position with Paychex, Inc. in Dayton. While working in the UD athletics administration, she also served as the Faculty Advisor for the Flyer Student-Athlete Advisory Board.
As success on the field has improved, UD student-athletes have also performed in the classroom. The Flyers’ combined cumulative grade point average has risen to a school-record 3.235. UD has had 34 Academic All-Americans in the last nine years. Only Nebraska, Rensselaer Poly and Rice had more. The Flyers had three Arthur Ashe Scholar-Athletes in 2005-06, the most in school history. Dayton is consistently among the league leaders in placing student-athletes on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, even though the Flyers participate in fewer A-10 sports than all but one school. UD had the most players on the PFL Academic Honor Roll for the ninth consecutive year in 2008.
HISTORY
In 2005, Dr. Curran joined University of Dayton students on a relief trip to hurricane-stricken Mississippi. In 2002, he received the Eternal Flame Award, an international award given for “exceptional contribution to the field of Holocaust education.”
The highlights include the following: Women’s soccer has earned five NCAA tournament appearances (including a berth in the “Sweet Sixteen” in 2001) and has won eight of the last 11 A-10 regular season championships. Women’s volleyball has earned four NCAA tournament appearances and has won nine A-10 titles (regular season and/or tournament). Men’s soccer has won five A-10 titles and played in the 2008 NCAA tournament. The baseball team’s record for wins in a season was 25 after the 2000 campaign -- since then UD has won at least 30 games six times and won the A-10 regular season championship in 2009. And the Flyer football team has won the Pioneer Football League Championship nine times in the 16-year history of the league, and has taken home the 2002 and 2007 NCAA Division I-AA Mid-Major National Championships.
2008 YEAR IN REVIEW
Curran’s forward-thinking, innovative approach also translates to the playing fields. As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division I board of directors from 2004-2008, Dr. Curran helped shape academic reforms designed to improve the graduation rate of student-athletes. He also has served on the executive committee and Division I-AA/I-AAA Presidential Advisory Group and the Higher Learning Commission.
In the last two years, Dayton athletics has reached even higher heights. Flyer teams have combined to have their best winning percentage than any other period in school history and set milestones in several sports while still maintaining graduation rates that are among the highest in the country.
FLYERS
The University also constructed an Innovation Center in the School of Engineering; built a sports complex; and opened the Dayton Early College Academy, a charter school on campus that prepares first-generation college students to earn a high school diploma and college credits at the same time. In the residential arena, the University built two facilities that combine living and learning — Marianist Hall, a residence hall with learning spaces, and ArtStreet, an imaginative housing and arts education complex in the University neighborhood. RecPlex, an ultramodern fitness and recreation complex, opened in 2006.
Wabler first returned to the University’s Athletics Division as an administrator in 1993 as Associate Director Athletics. As Associate AD, Wabler worked in every area of athletics administration -- overseeing UD’s sports programs, student-athlete support services, development and major facility projects.
COACHES
A former Flyer student-athlete himself, Tim Wabler is the seventh man to serve as the University of Dayton’s Director of Athletics. As UD’s Vice-President and Director of Athletics, Wabler is responsible for the oversight of 17 intercollegiate athletics programs, on-campus athletic facilities including Baujan Field and the Frericks Center, and the University of Dayton Arena with the surrounding Arena Sports Complex.
UNIVERSTIY
Daniel J. Curran is president of the University of Dayton, recognized as a top-tier national research university and one of the 10 best Catholic universities in the country. The Philadelphia native became the University of Dayton’s 18th president and first lay leader on July 1, 2002. By almost every measure — from enrollment to research dollars to rankings — the University of Dayton has grown in stature during his presidency. Since 2002, the University of Dayton has established centers of excellence in nanotechnology; fuels and combustion; ladar and optical communications; and advanced sensor technology. The University launched the nation’s first accelerated law curriculum, started a doctor of physical therapy program and introduced one of the nation’s first bachelor’s degrees in human rights studies.
INTRODUCTION
DR. DANIEL J.CURRAN
Wabler is also the administrator who oversees UD’s athletic fund-raising efforts and long-term finances. Radio and television agreements have been expanded to increase exposure for Flyer athletics. Wabler has been actively involved in numerous A-10 Conference committees, including the Championships Review Committee, Baseball Committee and Soccer Committee. His committee work also extends to service to the University community. He currently serves on UD’s Campus Master Planning Committee, and has been a past member of UD’s Committee on Diversity in Community and Resource Allocation Steering Committee. Wabler is also an NCAA Peer Reviewer and a member of the Greater Dayton YMCA’s Board of Trustees. A 1974 graduate of UD’s School of Business Administration, Wabler has also completed the Sports Management Institute Executive Program. A former member of UD’s Athletic Board, Wabler was a four-year letterwinner and three-time Pitcher of the Year for UD. He served as team captain as a senior. A 1970 graduate of Chaminade High School in Dayton, Wabler is the first Dayton native to serve as the University’s Director of Athletics. Tim and his wife Arlene have two daughters, Sarah and Leigh Anne.
During her first stint at Dayton, Pease implemented the community service element of the NCAA Life Skills program at the University of Dayton, the successful initial marketing of the 2007 NCAA Women’s Basketball Regional at UD Arena, and the monitoring of squad lists, initial eligibility and continuing eligibility for UD’s nearly 400 student-athletes. Pease came to UD following a prep career that concluded with her being named the Ohio Division I Player of the Year in 1998 at Mansfield (OH) Madison High School. She was part of a UD volleyball program that won 102 matches, including an A-10 Regular Season Championship in 2001 and UD’s first-ever A-10 Tournament title in 2003. She was a senior leader of the Flyer team that won UD’s first-ever NCAA Tournament match with a stunning five-game upset of host Michigan State. She was a three-time recipient of the Dr. R. Elaine Driedame Coach’s Award. As a junior and senior, she was the president of UD’s Student-Athlete Advisory Board. Pease holds two degrees from the University of Dayton. She earned her Bachelor’s in Management Information Systems (with a minor in Operations Management) in 2003, and her MBA (specialization in Marketing) in 2004.

There are two Athletic Training Rooms in operation at the University of Dayton. The Arena Training Room is located in the Donoher Basketball Center and utilized by Arena Complex teams for practices and games. STAFF
SPORTS SPORTS MEDICINE MEDICINE
Trained personnel are present at all athletic contests and, where possible, at all practices to insure prompt medical attention. The Sports Medicine Staff works closely with the coaching staff to keep them informed regarding the medical status of the athletes.
INTRODUCTION
At the University of Dayton, the health and well being of our student-athletes is a primary concern. We strive to prevent injuries through pre-participation physical examinations, well-designed conditioning programs, warm-ups, proper practice planning, and appropriate equipment selection. When an athletic injury occurs, our goal is to provide the best medical care possible from the initial first-aid to the follow-up care and rehabilitation.
HISTORY
State-of-the-art conditioning centers, fully-equipped training rooms and full-time professionals combine to create a program for student-athletes that gives them a physical edge over the competition. Each UD team has a plan designed and administered by qualified professionals to meet the specific needs of their sport and style of play. All student-athletes perform basic strength training with a general emphasis on explosive lifts that involve as much of the body as possible. Conditioning programs are designed to prepare student-athletes for the specific metabolic demands of their sport. Core training, agility work and sport specific exercises are then incorporated into each program to prepare each student-athlete for competitive success. The UD strength & conditioning coaches work with out sports medicine staff to help reduce the risk of injuries and to efficiently return student-athletes to competition as quickly and as safely as possible following injury. With four staff members holding the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential, UD stays current on the latest research to insure that our programs are among the best in the country. In addition, the UD strength and conditioning staff can provide assistance in eating strategies that will improve health and competitiveness of UD studentathletes. The University of Dayton athletic conditioning centers, located both in the Frericks Center and the Donoher Basketball Center, house the very latest treadmills, Nautilus equipment, and free weights.

Stacey Martin 1977-1998
Stacey Martin left this Earth too soon. On March 28, 1998, she passed away during an exhibition match at Baujan Field. Martin, a tenacious defender, was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 in 1997. In her memory, the Flyers have put the team’s leadership award in her name.

TRADITION OF SUCCESS
BAUJAN FIELD THE HOME OF DAYTON SOCCER
SINCE BECOMING THE EXCLUSIVE HOME TO UD SOCCER, BAUJAN FIELD HAS GROWN INTO ONE OF THE TOP SOCCER VENUES IN THE ATLANTIC 10. Baujan Field, has undergone nearly $1.2 million in renovations over the past five years. It is recognized as one of the nation’s most unique collegiate stadiums. The facility boasts a wellmaintained natural grass surface with an irrigation system as well as a lighting system, allowing for a great atmosphere for night games. Baujan Field has played host to a number of postseason soccer events. The Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship was hosted in 1998, and again in 2002. The Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Championship was held here in 1996, 1999 and most recently in 2007. A first-round match of the 1999 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship called Baujan Field home as the Flyers advanced with a 3-2 win over Evansville. The Flyer men’s soccer team has twice played NCAA Play-In games at the historic venue in 1997 and 1998.
