Time Warner Cable Stadium has been home to Dayton baseball and is among the best baseball collegiate facilities in the Midwest.

The Flyer Faithful benefit from a $4 million facility complete with a press box, covered chair back seating behind home plate, concessions and restrooms.

Dayton began play at the field in 2004 and won 11 games at their new home next to UD Arena along I-75. Construction was completed on the complex before the 2005 season and Time Warner Cable Stadium was dedicated on May 7, 2005. The Flyers finished with an 18-4 record at TWC Stadium that season.

“We are excited that our baseball team has one of the best facilities in the Midwest and the Atlantic 10,” Vittorio said.

“Your recruiting tools used to be ranked as the University, scholarship dollars and your facilities,” Head Coach Tony Vittorio said. “This day and age young people are so visual. Now they go away from the University with what they see more than what they hear. What they see at UD is an outstanding baseball facility from right field to left field and from the parking lot to the stadium.”

“The most important thing about this facility is that it allows our players the ability to develop at a greater pace,” Vittorio said. “Player development is the core of our program and the key to our success.”

The team also takes advantage of an indoor hitting/pitching facility with a team locker room located along the right field line that can be used throughout the year.

“...one of the best facilities in the midwest as well as the atlantic 10.” - tony vittorio

COACHING CAREER

:: HISTORY ::

:: THE UNIVERSITY ::

SEASON AT UD.......... > 11TH ALMA MATER................ > HANOVER COLLEGE ‘88 University of Dayton head coach Tony Vittorio has solidified himself as one of the top collegiate baseball coaches in the Midwest since he took over in 2000. Vittorio was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year after guiding the University of Dayton baseball program to its first-ever Atlantic 10 regular season championship in 2009. Vittorio’s squad broke a number of long-standing UD records, including wins (38), batting average (.332), hits (665), at-bats (2,005), runs scored (448), home runs (77). He also surpassed the 500 career-win mark, capturing the milestone in a 5-3 come-from-behind win in the Bronx against Fordham on April 24, 2009. He has guided the program to five Atlantic 10 Championship appearances and is the only coach in program history to advance to the A-10 Tournament. However, Vittorio (511-465, 287-267 at UD) would give many reasons why those numbers represent a starting point rather than a destination for a program that had only one winning season in the decade prior to his arrival. With Vittorio and his staff’s mentorship, UD has seen five of its own selected in the MLB draft with two of them (Jerry Blevins and Craig Stammen) reaching the big leagues.

In 2006, Vittorio took the Flyers to the Atlantic 10 Championships for the second consecutive season and won 33 games including a program best 18 in Atlantic 10 Conference play to finish third in the 14-team A-10. Not only did the UD pitching staff record a then school-record 343 strikeouts, but the offense used its speed to record the third most doubles (115), fourth most stolen bases (75) and fifth most triples (18) in program history. He also saw a Flyer (Craig Stammen) selected in the MLB Draft.

The ball field is not the only place that Vittorio expects his players to excel. Each year the team volunteer’s their time at the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon, as well as participating in the “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign for breast cancer awareness and each member of the team visits Children’s Hospital and is involved in Christmas on Campus. This season the Flyers started a new initiative called “For the Good of Gloves” to collect used gloves for underprivileged children. A native of Indianapolis, Vittorio graduated from Hanover (IN) College in 1988 with a double major in business administration and physical education. He went on to earn his master’s degree in sports management from the University of Kentucky in 1997. At Hanover, Vittorio was a fouryear letterwinner as a middle infielder and was selected into the American College Hall of Fame at the conclusion of his collegiate career. Vittorio resides in Kettering with his wife Heather and their daughter Taylor and son Nic.

UD also won two of three games against #19 Notre Dame on Feb. 26 & 27 in Mesa, Ariz. at HoHoKam Park, the Spring Training home of the Chicago Cubs. It marked the highest-ranked team ever defeated by the Flyers in school history.

Vittorio engineered his rebuilding process again and posted a 24-23 mark his first season and an impressive 30-17 record in 1998. Vittorio’s Mastodons won 80 games in his three years in Fort Wayne, bringing his then seven-year career head coaching record to 224-198. In 2000, coach Vittorio made the move to UD, bringing with him head assistant Todd Linklater.

:: THE COACHES ::

Vittorio’s team set a former program record 596 hits in 2005 while ranking third in runs scored (397) and at bats (1,932), fourth in batting average (.308) and RBI (358). The 2005 Flyers also had a solid pitching staff with 314 strkeouts (third most in school history) and a 4.41 team ERA (fifth best).

:: THE FLYERS ::

But as bright as the future appears for Vittorio’s Flyers, his past still stands at the top of UD’s record books. In 2002, UD shattered record after record, boasting school-highs in strikeouts (332) while winning 32 games, as well as an April 16 win over IPFW that gave Vittorio his 300th career victory. His ability to mold professional-caliber players was also validated during the year, with four members of the ‘02 squad going on to play some type of professional ball.

This transformation of Dayton’s program has come as no surprise. From the start of his 20-year coaching career as an assistant at Indiana University, Vittorio has been a builder. His first reconstruction was at Lincoln Trail Community College, a junior college in Robinson, Ill. Taking over a program that suffered through a 2-48 season before he arrived. Vittorio guided LTC to 144 wins from 1990 through 1994, including a 4528 record his final year. While coaching the Statesmen, he mentored two MLB draftees and saw 22 players advance to four-year college teams. He then spent two years as an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky before beginning the revival of Division II IPFW, a team that was 9-41 before he arrived in the fall of 1996.

THE COACHES Q & A WITH HEAD COACH TONY VITTORIO Last season you had a program-record 38 wins. There are a few changes in your pitching rotation and at a few key positions, but overall it’s a very strong team heading into 2010. How do you feel about this year? Without a doubt, we are very proud of our team’s accomplishments last year. We can always say that we are the 2009 Atlantic 10 Baseball Champions. Nobody can take that away from the members of our 2009 baseball team. I am really happy for our seniors from last year’s team. They were an integral part of starting a new beginning. At the present time, that was last year. We are now preparing for the 2010 baseball season which we are excited about. Where do you see this team in comparison to last year? Do you see them continuing this tradition of success? It is very hard to predict what young people are going to do in this day and age. I do not spend too much time on that. I can say that we have enough offense back from last year’s team and enough experience within our pitching staff to be optimistic about this year’s team. Now it is up to our daily preparation as to whether we perform at a high level. Let’s talk a little bit about your nonconference schedule. Last year you played Creighton, Notre Dame and Gonzaga in your own tournament in Phoenix, Ariz. That was a very good test early in the season. This season you open up against Army on Feb. 19 and Wake Forest on Feb. 20 and 21 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Talk a about your nonconference slate. Our non-conference schedule is always geared towards two things. One is to gain individual and team confidence going into the conference season. The other is to play against programs that we could see in regional play. We are excited about this year’s schedule because I think it is set up for exactly these two things. Our non-conference schedule should prepare us for the conference season. The Atlantic 10 Tournament was strong last year and the Conference probably could have had more than one bid into the NCAA. Can you talk a little about the strength of the A-10 this year? Over the course of the 10 years that I have been involved with the Atlantic 10 Conference, it has become a very good and competitive baseball conference. There are outstanding coaches that run quality programs within our conference. The league is the strongest that it has ever been from top to bottom. I personally feel that the NCAA needs to pay more attention to our conference because there were two, if not three, teams that were good enough to be in regional play last year.

Your players had a lot of individual accolades last year. For example, Cameron Hobson was named a freshman All-American and catcher Scott Dunwoody was on the Johnny Bench Award watch list last season. How do you view this team, do you feel like every year you progressively get better? Whenever you win a championship there are higher expectations. With higher expectations there are more responsibilities. Some may say that there is a target on your back, but this is not how we look at it. We look at it as an outstanding opportunity to build upon what last year’s team accomplished. We look at it as an outstanding opportunity to carry on tradition. We want to continue to get quality student-athletes and prepare them to be the best that they can possibly be in the classroom, in the community and obviously on the baseball field. We want to help them make their dreams become reality. One last question coach. How tightknit is this group? Working towards a championship last year, and defending that championship together has to have a major impact on team chemistry. What are your thoughts? Our team chemistry is outstanding. This is because, overall, we have enough of the right people involved. We have great leadership from players like Cole Tyrell and Jimmy Roesinger. It has carried over from the leadership from last year. Scott Dunwoody was not just one of the best players that I have ever coached, but he was also one of the best people that I have ever coached. You can put Quinn Haselhorst in that same category. Our camaraderie and cohesiveness of our team is probably our strongest attributes. I am very proud of our players about how they go about their business and how they lead in the classroom, in the community, and on the baseball field.

“Todd has always been an integral part of our program,” Vittorio said. “Throughout Todd’s playing and coaching careers, he has always shown great work ethic and outstanding loyalty. His attention to every detail along with his progressive approach to development makes him one of the best coaches in the country”

In UD’s then school-record 36 win season of 2005, the Flyer pitching staff had the lowest team ERA in 34 years with a 4.41 mark. The right handed duo of Trubee and Stammen each recorded the then-top two UD single-season marks for both strikeouts, innings pitched, and complete games. The righthanders tied for the national lead in complete games with 9 a piece. Closer Craig Rohren was named the Atlantic 10 Reliever of the Year in that same year with a 4-1 record to go along with 10 saves and an opponent’s batting average of .214.

Since coming to UD, Linklater’s pitchers have made a habit of record-setting performances and success after their career as a Flyer is complete. A Dayton pitcher has been selected in four of the last five MLB Drafts and five of the last seven overall. Linklater showed his ability to mentor young pitchers and develop them to the next level in 2009. With an ailing pitching staff, Linklater helped develop a pitching rotation that featured two freshmen starters on the weekend, including Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year Cameron Hobson. He earned the honor in part after snapping Luke Trubee’s strikeout record, fanning 83 in his freshman campaign. After a record breaking 2008 season, a lot was resting on the shoulders of the bullpen. The fiery young staff rolled up their sleeves to combine for a school record 370 strikeouts. In addition, senior Quinn Haselhorst set a new record with 50 career starts over four seasons. In 2008 the Flyer pitching staff finished with a 4.24 ERA which ranked 1st in the Atlantic 10 and 30th Nationally out of 286 Division I teams. This stellar staff also lead the A10 in fewest walks given up per nine innings and ranked 27th nationally. Coach Link’s list of protégés is highlighted by Jerry Blevins of the Oakland A’s and the Washington Nationals’ Craig Stammen. Stammen earned his first career win in a 3-0 win over the New York Yankees. Later in 2009, Stammen pitched a complete game win over the Houston Astros winning 13-2. Blevins earned his way onto the A’s roster just before the Major League Baseball All Star Game in 2008 and saw action in the 2009 season. He finished with 37.2 innings pitched with a 3.11 ERA in 36 appearances as he proved to be a crucial component to the A’s bull pen. Blevins was drafted in the 17th round at the conclusion of his junior year in 2004. During his junior year, Blevins was joined by Craig Stammen and Luke Trubee to form the strongest staff at UD to date. Stammen was drafted in the 12th round in 2005. He finished the 2008 season

In 2003, UD’s pitching staff recorded 301 strikeouts-the fourth highest single season mark in UD’s 100 year history, bested only by the 332 put up by 2002 squad, 343 in 2006 and 370 in 2009. During ‘02 Dayton reached the then record 32-win mark for a second consecutive season in large part to a pitching staff that featured four pitchers that would go on to play professionally after their tenure under Coach “Link.” The quartet was highlighted by seniors Mike Kerins, who collected eight wins, tying him for the career wins mark of 19, and Sam Fischer, who would later be selected in the 22nd round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Houston Astros. Kerins joined Linklater pupils Mike Rolih (who formerly held the single-season win mark and was named to the A-10’s All-Conference squad in 2001) and Aaron Pahs (who was a second-team All-Conference performer in 2002) on the roster of the Frontier League’s Richmond Roosters. In all, Linklater has coached seven players to professional careers. In the summer of 2003, beyond his responsibilities at Dayton, Linklater also served as the head coach of the Southern Ohio Copperheads of the Great Lakes Collegiate Wood Bat League. There, he led the Copperheads to a fifth-place finish in conference play and a return trip to the league tournament in just their second year of existence. Linklater began his collegiate playing career at Lincoln Trail Community College, pitching for the Statesmen from 1992-93. He then transferred to Lake Forest College where he played football and graduated with a degree in History in 1996. His coaching career began at Lake Forest High School where he served as pitching coach from 1996-97. In December of 2002, he finished his master’s degree in Educational Leadership at UD after earning his bachelor’s in Education at Indiana University in 1999. Linklater lives in Kettering with his wife Kerry and three daughters Caroline, Elizabeth and Madeline.

in AAA for the Columbus Clippers and became a regular starter for the Washington Nationals in 2009. Trubee, a career 30-game winner during his time at UD, was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 33rd round at the conclusion of his senior year in 2006. Luke holds the records for single season and career strikeouts along with single season and career wins at the University of Dayton.

:: THE FLYERS ::

After beginning at UD in 1999, Todd Linklater was promoted to Associate Head Coach of Flyer Baseball on August 28, 2006. At Dayton, Linklater serves as the pitching coach as well as the player development coordinator, which entails the designing and application of the strength program for all players. He also plays a major role in the recruiting process.

THE COACHES

The University of Dayton welcomed Brian Harrison as an assistant coach on July 5, 2007. Harrison joined the Flyer baseball program after serving as the head coach at Urbana University for three seasons. Harrison’s responsibilities on Coach Vittorio’s staff include serving as a hitting and outfield coach.

In 2008, Harrison implemented his team offensive hitting approach that is centered around strike-zone awareness, barrel control, disciplined aggressiveness and quality at-bats. With Harrison’s offensive philosophy, the team improved in nearly every offensive statistical category with all of the returning players in the lineup enjoyed their best season in a Flyer uniform. Harrison’s influence was instrumental in helping outfielder Kevin Miller’s banner year. Miller finished his senior season with the seventh-best batting average in the Atlantic 10, hitting .362 (Miller hit .167 in his career). Cole Tyrell also saw an increase in his batting average from .215 to .305 that season.

“Coach Harrison brings a great amount of baseball knowledge to our program along with what I feel is outstanding passion for the game of baseball as well as recruiting,” UD Head Coach Tony Vittorio said, “His track record at his last two stops speaks for itself. His work ethic and loyalty was definitely noticed.”

During the summer of 2007, Coach Harrison took his coaching ability to the professional level as he served as the hitting coach for the Chillicothe Paints in the Frontier League. The Paints finished the season 47-49 and captured second in the East Division. Harrison worked with veteran shortstop Travis Garcia to produce one of his best years as at the professional level, earning Most Valuable Player honors in the Frontier League.

Last season, the Flyers won a school record 38 games, including 21 Atlantic 10 games to capture their first regular season championship in school history. The 2009 squad broke a number of records including single-season tallies in batting average (.332), runs (448), hits (665), RBI’s (419), doubles (143) and homeruns (77). Dayton’s offensive attack led the conference in nearly offensive category, finishing just shy of the conference triple crown.

Prior to his time at Dayton, Harrison took over direction of the NAIA Urbana Blue Knights. After going 7-43 in 2005, Harrison transformed the program in his second year as manager, finishing the season with a 37-21 record and a second place finish in the American Mideast Conference’ South Division . Harrison was named AMC South Division Coach of the Year, after the Blue Knights finished fourth at the Region IX Tournament in 2006, completing one of the greatest singleseason turnarounds in college baseball history.

Dayton finished the season ranked 11th in the nation in doubles, 17th in slugging percentage, 21st in batting average, 38th in homeruns and 13th in hit by pitches,. Under

Prior to Urbana, Harrison was head coach at Cuyahoga Community College. In his first season at the helm, the 2003 Challengers came within one victory of the school record and had their first winning season in eight years. The team improved its win total from 16 in 2002 to 35 in 2003 and set 15 school records along the way. In addition, three players were nominated First Team AllConference and finished as district runnersup. Harrison’s influence was vital in helping eight players receive a scholarship to a four year university. Before coaching, Harrison played at Shawnee State University, where he amassed more than 40 home runs and 200 RBI. He earned All-America honors after leading the Bears to a fifth place finish at the 2000 NAIA College World Series in Lewiston, Idaho. Harrison continued his playing career in the pro ranks for the Evansville Otters of the Frontier Independent Baseball League before an arm injury sidelined him during his second season Harrison was inducted into the Shawnee State University Hall of Fame in the Winter of 2008. He also served as an associate scout for the Cincinnati Reds Baseball Organization from 2004-2005. Coach Harrison, his wife Traci and their son Braden reside in Fairborn, Ohio.

The 2007 season saw much of the same as the Blue Knights finished with an impressive 32-21 record. This marked the fourth time in five years as a head coach that Harrison’s teams amassed 30 or more wins in a season.

COACHING CAREER

:: FLYER BASEBALL ::

Terry Bell began as an assistant coach at the University of Dayton in 1996. He is primarily responsible for handling the coaching of catchers and also assists UD hitters. “Coach Bell is the guy that’s ‘been there, done that’ at all levels of baseball,” head coach Tony Vittorio says of his assistant. “He brings an outstanding level of experience to us, especially with our catchers.” A catcher himself, Bell graduated from Fairmont East High School and was drafted in the fifth round by the Oakland A’s. He attended Old Dominion University instead and was an All-American while playing for the Monarchs. He also earned Sun Belt Conference MVP accolades in 1983. He participated in the 1982 World Games and the 1983 Pan American Games before being selected in the first round of the 1983 draft by the Seattle Mariners. Bell broke into the majors with the Kansas City Royals in 1986 and played the next season with the Atlanta Braves. He retired in 1989. Bell and his wife LeAnn reside in Centerville.

SPORTS MEDICINE STAFF

At the University of Dayton, the health and well being of our student-athletes is a primary concern. We strive to prevent injuries through pre-participation physical examinations, well-designed conditioning programs, warm-ups, proper practice planning, and appropriate equipment selection. When an athletic injury occurs, our goal is to provide the best medical care possible from the initial first-aid to the follow-up care and rehabilitation.

SEAN CONVERY, M.D. HEAD PHYSICIAN

FACILITIES

There are two Athletic Training Rooms in operation at the University of Dayton. The Arena Training Room is located in the Donoher Basketball Center and utilized by Arena Complex teams for practices and games. The Frericks Center training room is open year round and is utilized for treatment and rehabilitation to all sports in the mornings and serves those sports that operate out of the Frericks Center in the afternoon.

STAFF

The University of Dayton Sports Medicine Staff consists of a team of Family Practice Physicians and Orthopedic Consultants and four full-time and two graduate assistant certified and licensed Athletic Trainers. In particular instances the Head Team Physician may refer athletes to other physicians or specialists. However, the Head Team Physician supervises the status of all athletes referred to other physicians or specialists and has the final authority with regard to all medical disqualifications, treatment, and return to play. Referrals to specialists will be made through the Team Physicians or Athletic Trainers only.

State-of-the-art conditioning centers, fully-equipped training rooms and full-time professionals combine to create a program for student-athletes that gives them a physical edge over the competition. Each UD team has a plan designed and administered by qualified professionals to meet the specific needs of their sport and style of play. All studentathletes perform basic strength training with a general emphasis on explosive lifts that involve as much of the body as possible. Conditioning programs are designed to prepare student-athletes for the specific metabolic demands of their sport. Core training, agility work and sport specific exercises are then incorporated into each program to prepare each student-athlete for competitive success. The UD strength & conditioning coaches work with out sports medicine staff to help reduce the risk of injuries and to efficiently return student-athletes to competition as quickly and as safely as possible following injury. With four staff members holding the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential, UD stays current on the latest research to insure that our programs are among the best in the country. In addition, the UD strength and conditioning staff can provide assistance in eating strategies that will improve health and competitiveness of UD student-athletes. Dr. Curran and his wife, Claire, have two sons, Sean and Aidan.

MICHAEL KELLY

SENIOR ASSOCIATE ATHLETICS DIRECTOR A storied football coaching career came to an end when Mike Kelly stepped down as head coach of the Flyers on January 22, 2008, but a new chapter began for Kelly and the University of Dayton Athletics Division when he took on the duties of Associate Athletics Director. A man who has dedicated his life to mentoring, Kelly will have no trouble stepping into his new expanded role. In addition to overseeing the departments of Academics, Athletics Communication and Equipment, he will serve as an adviser to up-and-coming coaches. The University’s past president, Brother Raymond L. Fitz, once said “I regard Mike Kelly as one of the best teachers the University of Dayton has.” Kelly developed innumerable players and coaches to experience success on the field and in life. Those teaching skills are just one of the many he possesses that make his transition to administration seamless. Kelly will draw from his nearly 40 years of coaching experience to develop UD’s young professionals. He will serve as a Sports Program Administrator (SPA) for football, women’s basketball, baseball and men’s golf. Kelly’s goal is to contribute to continue raising the bar in all areas of the University of Dayton Athletics Division. He’s shown, with his team’s successes on the football field, he can set it high. When he stepped down as UD’s football coach, he ended one of the winningest coaching careers in the history of college football, his career winning percentage of .819 the best of any active coach who had been in the profession 25 years or more. In addition to the 1989 NCAA Division III national title, Kelly’s Flyers were also NCAA FCS Mid-Major national champions (by a national poll) in 2002 and 2007. Mike and his wife, Jeanne, reside in Kettering and have two daughters, Jodie Beth and Nikki.

Since Wabler has been part of the Dayton Athletics Division, the Flyers have experienced significantly improved competitive success. Since 1998, UD has had 28 conference championships and had 22 teams reach the post-season. In the nine years prior to 1998, the Flyers had only seven conference championships and one tournament appearance. In the ten months from May of 2009 and February 2010, Flyer teams won seven conference championship - beginning with baseball in 2009, continuing with women’s cross country, football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball in the fall, then women’s indoor track and field in February. UD was the only school in the country to win five conference championship in the fall of 2009. In the last two-and-half years, Flyer teams have combined to have their best winning percentage than any other period in school history and set milestones in several sports while still maintaining graduation rates that are among the highest in the country. The highlights include the following: Women’s soccer has earned five NCAA tournament appearances (including a berth in the “Sweet Sixteen” in 2001) and has won eight of the last 11 A-10 regular season championships. Women’s volleyball has earned four NCAA tournament appearances and has won nine A-10 titles (regular season and/or tournament). Men’s soccer has won five A-10 titles and played in the 2008 NCAA tournament. The baseball team’s record for wins in a season was 25 after the 2000 campaign -- since then UD has won at least 30 games six times and won the A-10 regular season championship in 2009. And the Flyer football team has won the Pioneer Football League Championship nine times in the 16-year history of the league, and has taken home the 2002 and 2007 NCAA Division I-AA Mid-Major National Championships. As success on the field has improved, UD student-athletes have also performed in the classroom. The Flyers’ combined cumulative grade point average has risen to a school-record 3.235. UD has had 34 Academic All-Americans in the last nine years. Only Nebraska, Rensselaer Poly and Rice had more. The Flyers had three Arthur Ashe Scholar-Athletes in 2005-06, the most in school history. Dayton is consistently among the league leaders in placing student-athletes on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, even though the Flyers participate in fewer A-10 sports than all but one school. UD had the most players on the PFL Academic Honor Roll for the ninth consecutive year in 2008. Wabler is also the administrator who oversees UD’s athletic fund-raising efforts and long-term finances. Radio and television agreements have been expanded to increase exposure for Flyer athletics. Wabler has been actively involved in numerous A-10 Conference committees, including the Championships Review Committee, Baseball Committee and Soccer Committee. His committee work also extends to service to the University community. He currently serves on UD’s Campus Master Planning Committee, and has been a past member of UD’s Committee on Diversity in Community and Resource Allocation Steering Committee. Wabler is also an NCAA Peer Reviewer and a member of the Greater Dayton YMCA’s Board of Trustees. A 1974 graduate of UD’s School of Business Administration, Wabler has also completed the Sports Management Institute Executive Program. A former member of UD’s Athletic Board, Wabler was a four-year letterwinner and three-time Pitcher of the Year for UD. He served as team captain as a senior. A 1970 graduate of Chaminade High School in Dayton, Wabler is the first Dayton native to serve as the University’s Director of Athletics. Tim and his wife Arlene have two daughters, Sarah and Leigh Anne.

:: THE UNIVERSITY :: :: HISTORY ::

Wabler first returned to the University’s Athletics Division as an administrator in 1993 as Associate Director Athletics. As Associate AD, Wabler worked in every area of athletics administration -- overseeing UD’s sports programs, student-athlete support services, development and major facility projects.

:: SEASON IN REVIEW ::

Curran’s forward-thinking, innovative approach also translates to the playing fields. As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division I board of directors from 2004-2008, Dr. Curran helped shape academic reforms designed to improve the graduation rate of student-athletes. He also has served on the executive committee and Division I-AA/I-AAA Presidential Advisory Group and the Higher Learning Commission.

A former Flyer student-athlete himself, Tim Wabler is the seventh man to serve as the University of Dayton’s Director of Athletics. As UD’s Vice-President and Director of Athletics, Wabler is responsible for the oversight of 17 intercollegiate athletics programs, on-campus athletic facilities including Baujan Field and the Frericks Center, and the University of Dayton Arena with the surrounding Arena Sports Complex.

:: THE COACHES ::

The University also constructed an Innovation Center in the School of Engineering; built a sports complex; and opened the Dayton Early College Academy, a charter school on campus that prepares first-generation college students to earn a high school diploma and college credits at the same time. In the residential arena, the University built two facilities that combine living and learning — Marianist Hall, a residence hall with learning spaces, and ArtStreet, an imaginative housing and arts education complex in the University neighborhood. RecPlex, an ultramodern fitness and recreation complex, opened in 2006.

VICE PRESIDENT/ DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS

:: THE FLYERS ::

Daniel J. Curran is president of the University of Dayton, recognized as a top-tier national research university and one of the 10 best Catholic universities in the country. The Philadelphia native became the University of Dayton’s 18th president and first lay leader on July 1, 2002. By almost every measure — from enrollment to research dollars to rankings — the University of Dayton has grown in stature during his presidency. Since 2002, the University of Dayton has established centers of excellence in nanotechnology; fuels and combustion; ladar and optical communications; and advanced sensor technology. The University launched the nation’s first accelerated law curriculum, started a doctor of physical therapy program and introduced one of the nation’s first bachelor’s degrees in human rights studies.

NCAA COMPLIANCE

WHAT IS A PROSPECTIVE STUDENT-ATHLETE/”PROSPECT”?

A prospect is any student who has started classes for the ninth (9th) grade, any student who receives financial assistance or other benefits from UD and/or its athletics representative that are not normally provided to prospective students generally. You become a “recruited prospective student-athlete” at a particular college if any coach or representative of the college’s athletics interests (booster or representative) approaches you (or any member of your family) about enrolling and participating in athletics at that college. Activities by coaches or boosters that cause you to become a recruited prospective student-athlete are:
