Entry-Level Career Training

Occupational Skills Award

Level 1 Certificate

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Associate of Arts/Sciences (AA/AS)

Offered through the Adult and Continuing Education Department, these entry-level, short-term career training programs are made up of non-credit courses and generally take less than a semester to complete. These programs prepare you for entry into a new career as quickly as possible. Certificates are programs of one year or less that will range from 15-42 semester credit hours. These one-year programs normally do not contain academic classes and prepare you to enter the workforce directly after graduation. Many certificates will transfer to a degree program if you decide to continue your academic journey.

Online Classes

Occupational Skills Awards (OSA) are workforce education college credit programs that range from 9-14 hours, depending on your program. These awards offer a high likelihood of employment after graduation due to the high demand for skilled employees.

An Associate Degree is an undergraduate degree that typically takes two years to complete, when enrolled full-time, and includes academic classes. NCTC offers three types of Associate Degrees: an Associate of Arts, an Associate of Science, an Associate of Applied Science and an Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT).

Program can be completed 100% online.

y d u t S ad o r b A NCTC has offered study abroad experiences for over 200 students during the past 10 years to every major city in Europe and Costa Rica. Our students study British, Scottish, Italian, German, and French literature in the classroom and then explore those texts on location in Europe- exploring cities, castles, museums, restaurants, and battlefields. Upcoming study abroad experiences will include new creative writing in the French Riveria, eco-literary studies in Costa Rica and a trip to Japan!

CHRISTOPHER IVERSON With the willingness to try something new, and fully immerse himself into all college had to offer, Christopher signed up for a leadership retreat hosted by Student Life during his freshman year at NCTC. “Rather clueless and without great expectations, my experience during the leadership retreat was priceless,” said Christopher. After the retreat, Christopher decided to join Student Life by volunteering for the Student Activities Board. Through his experience on the board, Christopher has been able to challenge himself to new heights, gain confidence, and prepare himself for his next quest to earn his Associates of Arts Degree in May 2020. Student Life not only helped Christopher with his self-esteem, but NCTC gave him the opportunity to develop the social skills, and study habits needed from transitioning from high school. “Now, my skills have been honed, my confidence has been heightened and I’m feeling prepared for the next step by transferring to UNT for my Media Arts Degree,” said Christopher.

ALLIE HAMSHER NCTC student athlete, Allie Hamsher, balances the hectic schedule of being a full-time student, and college athlete. In between studying for classes, keeping up with volleyball, and maintaining a social life- it’s a full course load. “Needless to say, as a student athlete you have to be all in, in order to be successful,” said Allie. “One of the things I love most about being an athlete is that all of the characteristics I have learned over the past 15 years don’t just translate on the court, but in the classroom and in life as well! Selflessness, hard work, time management, determination, and competitiveness are just some characteristics that have led to my success in the class room.” Allie is starting her sophomore year at NCTC and plans to continue her education into a career in Physical Therapy. Allie was Newcomer of the Year last season, and is returning head captain. “Real competitors don’t like losing and that doesn’t just mean when it’s game time,” said Allie. “So, even though being a student athlete is challenging, it has taught me the greatest life lessons, by far. NCTC has some of the best coaches, instructors, and teammates that I have ever met, they are what I love most about this school. The leaders here have more than prepared me for my next step in life, wherever that may be.”
