Member driven program for all active adults, offering classes and social activities for continued intellectual and personal growth. Membership entitles participation in any of the activities at no additional charge, with the exception to a few activities that have a supply or travel fee. No repeats on classes that are offered more than once, so everyone will have a chance to attend the class they are interested in. More social events, more enrollments, more community involvement. Students will receive a laminated membership card with a specific membership number. The back of the card will include a QR code that leads to catalog.

Ambassadors to the Academy are assigned as the program community outlook advisors. They are advocates for the students, their needs, and facilitators for classes. Ambassadors are mobile units that keep the community informed of upcoming courses by handing out schedules, attending classes, visiting with students, and helping with social events. Ambassadors are extremely important to the success of the Academy by bringing forth their passion and love for lifelong learning. Their enduring patience and unending time spent as volunteers shows their compassion and desire to make the program a success. If you would like to volunteer as an Ambassador, you can contact any of the current Ambassadors for more information or Linda Clark at 940-668-3327 or lclark@nctc.edu.

SHATTERED GLASS ART PTS 1000 0102 T 2/15, 3/22, 4/19 1 PM - 3 PM Variety of small colored glass pieces resin for pouring Create art by using a variety of small colored glass pieces encased in resin for a shiny glass finish. MONTHLY MYSTERY CRAFT PTS 1000 0103 W 2/23, 3/30, 4/27 3 PM - 5 PM Once a month come together to craft a project. The intended project will not be revealed until the day of class. There will be a $20 per person fee for supplies. PENCIL DRAWING PTS 1000 0105 M 3/21 2 PM - 4 PM Discover a new technique to sketching portraits and other drawings with pencil. EASTER WREATH PTS 1000 0106 M 3/28 1 PM - 3 PM Get ready for Spring by creating a beautiful Easter wreath to welcome friends and family! Design your own dream catchers using hoop, colorful ribbon, and trimmings to catch your dreams.
COMPUTER TECHNOLOGIES HAVING FUN WITH DATA ANALYSIS AND PROBABILITY PTS 1020 0101 TH 01/20 6 PM – 8 PM Students will explore methods for analyzing data and calculating probability HAVING FUN WITH MS WORD PTS 1020 0102 TH 02/17 6 PM – 7 PM Students will cover key introductory MS Word skills. Topics: creating and saving documents, printing documents, creating tables, inserting shapes and pictures and many more. BEGINNING COMPUTERS PTS 1020 0103 M-TH 02/21-02/24 2 PM – 4 PM In this course, students will explore Microsoft’s newest operating system, Windows 10. Topics: program controls, menus, working with the Start menu, using the taskbar, working with apps, creating folders, and saving and managing files. Students will also use Microsoft’s new web browser, Microsoft Edge, and focus on effective searches and how to protect against Internet threats. SMARTPHONES PTS 1020 0104 M 03/22 3 PM – 5 PM Students will explore smartphone use and operations for Android and iOS devices. Topics: making phone calls, sending text messages, accessing the Internet, checking your emails, downloading applications. HAVING FUN WITH MS EXCEL PTS 1020 0105 TH 03/24 6 PM-7 PM Students will explore specific functions in MS Excel.

Will meet at the NCTC campus building 200. LINE DANCING PTS 1050 0102 M 4/4-4/18 1 PM – 2 PM Learn new and classic line dances for fun! Perfect for singles or non-dancers who just want to move their feet and body to the music.
GAME BUNCO PTS 1040 0103 TH 5/12 2 PM - 4 PM Bunco also known as Bonko or Bunko, is a popular game played with nine dice and a whole lot of luck. Play bunco at parties, with family or a group of friends!

HANDICRAFT BEGINNING SEWING PTS 1080 0101 M 2/14 – 3/7 10 AM - 12 PM Learn the basics of sewing, including various stitches and seam finishes while you build a solid sewing foundation. Know your machine inside out. Learn to trouble shoot stitches. Learn different fabrics and settings for maximum use. Students will learn to make a bag. Supply List: seam ripper, pin cushion, tape measure, pins, assorted needles, thimble, sewing gauge, needle threader, marking pencil and thread. (Singer Beginning Sewing Kit 130 contains all basic supplies.) BEGINNING QUILT PTS 1080 0104 M 3/21 – 4/11 10 AM – 12 PM Trying to make a quilt for the first time can seem overwhelming! Where do you start, what do you need, how do you stitch it together? This class will tackle each of those questions one at a time and before you know it you will be finishing your first quilt. Supply list: 4 fat quarters: light, medium light, medium dark and dark. Sewing supplies from list in Beginning Sewing.
HORTICULTURE DON’T BE BUGGED PTS 1060 0101 TH 3/10 10 AM - 12 PM Focus on insects and arachnids found in N. Texas. Learn how to identify them and control the pests while maintaining a good environment. MOONLIGHT GARDEN PTS 1060 0103 M 5/16 2 PM - 4 PM Most gardens must be seen in daylight to truly appreciate their beauty, but if you love summer nights outdoors, a moon garden that glows white under the stars.

Learn how to download several apps that will allow you to access to eBooks, eAudiobooks, music and so much more. Library card required to use these services. CREATIVE WRITING PTS 1040 0102 TH 4/7-4/28 2 PM - 4 PM Never doubt that you are a writer. We are all writers. If you can journal, remember a particular moment and reduce it to a page, a poem, even a short story, then you are a writer.
LECTURE THE HEART OF QUILTING PTS 1040 0104 M 2/1 2 PM - 4 PM A fun and interesting look at how the quilting world has changed throughout the years along with a show and tell of my favorite quilts. BENELUX COUNTRIES: SMALL BUT POWERFUL PTS 1040 0105 M 2/7 10 AM - 12 PM Illustrated lecture providing the historical, political and cultural contributions of Netherlands, Luxembourg and Belgium. Their role in the European Union leadership is also revealed. PORTAL TO TEXAS PTS 1040 0106 W 2/9 10 AM - 12 PM Learn about the Portal to Texas History’s website and how to use it to conduct research. This will focus on local Cooke County history such as the Gainesville Daily Register. NCIS-(NAVAL CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIVE SERVICE) PTS 1040 0107 T 2/15 2 PM - 4 PM Yes, NCIS really exists! Come listen to stories from a retired NCIS agent and learn more about the military investigative service.

JACK GARRETT; THE ARCHITECTURAL MASTERPIECES OF GAINESVILLE’S HISTORIC DISTRICT PTS 1040 0108 T 3/1 10 AM - 12 PM We will journey back in history to learn about the man, his amazing talent, and the grandeur of the homes which stand today as a tribute to his genius. Presented by Salty and Robin Rose, and Jayleane Smith. ROSIE THE RIVETER PTS 1040 0109 M 3/7 10 AM - 12 PM Illustrated lecture citing the many roles played by women during World War II. Leaving their homes, women supplied the labor for the war production. IRELAND THE SAINTS PTS 1040 0110 M 4/4 10 AM - 12 PM Illustrated lecture highlighting Irish history, politics and culture. Included will be he Irish immigration for political disenfranchisement, economic deprivation and religious persecution. THRIFT SHOP AND SHOW TUNES T 4/12 6 PM-8 PM A unique style show based on popular show tunes where the models design their costumes from thrift store finds. Presented by Dr. Brent Wallace, Jayleane Smith and Angie Young. BAG PIPES PTS 1040 0111 TH 4/21 1 PM - 3 PM Do you know where bagpipes were invented? What are the parts of a bagpipe and how is it played? Our very own NCTC faculty member will answer all these questions and more with a demonstration melody!
