With strong community support and growing funds, MPS continues to commit to giving our best to educate the nearly 27,000 students we serve.
Our Community The city of Montgomery is the third largest city in the state with a population of approximately 200,000. Nationally known for its rich historical and cultural legacy, the capital city proudly maintains its historic downtown while continuing to expand economically. Residents and visitors can take advantage of touring Montgomery's many landmarks, including the Alabama State Capitol, Dexter Avenue King Memorial Church, the Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice and the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. Outdoor experiences include Montgomery's redeveloped riverfront with access to boat activities, an amphitheater venue and the Riverwalk Stadium, home of the Class AA Montgomery Biscuits baseball team. Additionally, the city affords a number of shopping and dining options, ranging from traditional southern cuisine to fine dining. Montgomery is home to several public and private colleges and military schools as well as both Maxwell Air Force Base and its Gunter Annex. From K-12 to trade schools to higher education, Montgomery is proud to offer world-class educational opportunities. The city regards itself as a showplace for southern hospitality, beautiful weather, and high-tech jobs. In 2004, Montgomery landed one of the city's biggest economic development projects when Hyundai Motors Manufacturing Alabama built its $1.4 billion automotive plant. The Montgomery location is Hyundai's first assembly and manufacturing plant in the United States. It employs over 3,000 team members and currently produces the next generation Sonata sedan and Santa Fe sport utility vehicle. Montgomery is more than just the capital of Alabama, it is the epitome of economic prosperity.
