Secondary School

Congratulations to the Dawson Creek Secondary School Graduating Class of 2015 “Life’s not a spectator sport. lf watchin’ is all you’re gonna do, then you’re gonna watch your life go by without ya.”

John Hattie is currently recognized as one of the most influential voices in educational research. Hattie is responsible for the synthesis of over 800 meta-studies covering over 80-million students worldwide (http://visible-learning.org/john-hattie). Hattie’s data analysis defines the relationship between educational practices and the impact the practices have on student learning. Hattie implores educators to ‘Know Thy Impact’; to know, in advance, the potential impact of the practices they enact in classrooms. The teacher’s behaviours or practices are directly related to the learning potential in the classroom. Understanding the impact the behaviours an individual or group has upon others and the environment is a powerful process that requires proactive and reflective thinking and assessment. Throughout a student’s school years, the student is constantly asked to consider ‘impact.’

Dialogue and assessment related to human behavior and the impact on the environment, human behavior and the impact on culture, and human behavior and the impact on the economy are just a few ideas students assess in their school years. Students begin to know their potential impact as they work through problems presented at school. Students are also provided with opportunities to engage in processes where they can safely try something and then determine the impact of their work. It is hoped that students will learn from their experiences in school and apply their learning in other contexts. The DCSS Graduating Class of 2015 understands impact. As a collective, the DCSS Grads have been working to leave a meaningful legacy behind. The grads have raised thousands of dollars for both local and national charities. They have volunteered hundreds of hours in support of local charities and activities from Can-Skate to the Terry Fox Run. Our grads have been active in their care for others and in their

assessment of their collective impact. Exit interviews are a significant component of the grade 12’s graduation program. We expect our grads to have reflected upon their school experiences and have developed a plan for themselves for life past secondary school. After many hours of interviews, I can say with great confidence, our grads have no intention of standing idly by waiting for life to happen to them. Our grads will continue to make an impact and we will all benefit from their work! DCSS Grads know: Life’s not a spectator sport. lf watchin’ is all you’re gonna do, then you’re gonna watch your life go by without ya.” Laverne - The Hunchback of Notre Dame (http://goo.gl/S4sP3f). It is my pleasure to congratulate the Grad Class of 2015. I truly look forward to seeing what the future holds. Paul Chisholm Principal - South Peace Campus Dawson Creek Secondary School

MOUNTAIN

Christian School

Congratulations Mountain Christian School Class of 2015 - You made it! “He has come that you may have life; and have it abundantly!”

MCS class of 2015 is a truly remarkable group of individuals. It is with great pride and joy that I wish each member of the Class of 2015 congratulations! This is the time to reflect on your many accomplishments and to prepare for the amazing opportunities that lie ahead for each one of you. I would like to impart some food for thought as you begin your life as an adult. God loves to bless his people.

I want to encourage you to open the Word of God and live the life He says He will bless. John 10 promises that He has come that you may have life; and have it abundantly! An abundant life is not a unique doctrine- but rather an expectation of God’s people who follow His teachings. A life in Him is a life like no other! Korynn, Skylar, Emily, Autumn, Cassidy, Megan, Brooke, and Robin

you have been a blessing to our school community. I am confident that you have the tools to conquer obstacles, be successful, and more importantly- to become significant. You are equipped! I am so proud of you! Eva Hutchinson
