News Notes

With opening night just weeks away, Spirit of America Soldiers rehearse to tell Army story on stage

Members of the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) are preparing themselves for the Army’s largest community outreach event, Spirit of America. Preparedness is not unique to the Army’s premier ceremonial unit. Every unit is readying for something, such as deployments and field training. Yet an Old Guard mission like this one can be a culture shock for Soldiers coming from other units, according to Sgt. Kyle Poole, an Old Guard actor in Spirit of America. “It’s like running into a brick wall,” said Poole. “It’s a lot different from going to the field. Here it’s kind of the same scale but a completely different aspect.” Spirit of America is a two-hour patriotic live show that brings viewers through American History. Rehearsals will go on for about six weeks in anticipation of the show’s opening weekend

Army Forces Command. A native of the Boston area and an avid Red Sox fan, Milley graduated and received his commission from Princeton University in 1980. He has served in the 82nd Airborne Division and the 5th Special Forces group, as well as a Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense in the Pentagon. He has also served in the 7th Infantry Division, the 10th Mountain Division, the 25th Infantry Division and the 101st Airborne Division. Carter said Milley was an excellent choice for the role. “He’s the right officer to lead our Army over the next four years,” Carter said. “Mark is a leader, a warrior and a statesman.” McHugh said that with 34 years of leadership in the Army, Milley was the right man to lead the force going forward. “Mark has the personal trust of each and every one of us, the trust to guide our Army through these next critical phases,” McHugh said. And Dempsey agreed.

Year 2016, which begins in October, and will be complete by or before January 2016, said Frank Martin, realty specialist with JBM-HH DPW. Bldg. T482 is a relocatable structure comprising multiple mobile units. It was once a child development center and was later used as a location for inprocessing once Cody Child Development Center was com-

pleted in 2008. Martin said regulations stipulate that relocatable buildings are supposed to be used for anywhere from four to six years. The structure is being demolished because it would cost too much to convert it into anything else, he said. “To reconfigure it to make offices out of it would be way too expensive,” Martin said.

“It’s not really designed to be used for long periods of time.” Bldg. T482 is being demolished as part of an Army-wide push to reduce facilities on its installations, as detailed in Executive Order 164-15. Under the order, DPW employees examine JBM-HH’s property to bring down costs through

These threats are persistent and constantly evolving, as evidenced by the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The Army’s antiterrorism program protects personnel, information and facilities in all locations and situations against terrorist activities. The purpose of Antiterrorism Awareness Month is to instill Army-wide heightened awareness and vigilance to protect A r my communities f rom acts of terrorism.
