Independence Day Run
On July 4 Soldiers, family members and Fort Detrick civilians celebrated the 239th anniversary of our Nation’s independence, when the original thirteen colonies declared their independence from Britain in 1776. Across Frederick County people took part in cookouts, water activities and watching fireworks light the night sky, a tradition dating as far back as 1778, when George Washington celebrated the holiday with his troops in Princeton, New Jersey. As part of the community events, U.S. Army Garrison Commander, Col. Robert A. O’Brien IV spoke at the Baker Park Bandshell in Frederick, and spoke to the crowd about the birth of our nation and thanked the public for the support they give Fort Detrick.
