Fort Detrick service members and civilian workers gathered in the Community Activities Center with their families to celebrate the annual Christmas tree lighting, Dec. 6. The event was hosted by the U.S. Army Garrison; Col. Steven Middlecamp, Command Sgt. Maj. Richard Jessup, and Deputy Garrison Commander Gunnar G.F. Pedersen, Jr., were all present to shake hands and welcome Fort Detrick workers to the event. Volunteers, dressed as Christmas elves, and the children of those in attendance sang at the event under the direction of Fort Detrick Chapel musician Juana Anderson. After the performance, Middlecamp supervised the official lighting of the tree by the children, which was received with a round of applause. The children also had the opportunity to take pictures with Santa, while several gift baskets were raffled off. The evening concluded with hot chocolate and back-to-back holiday movies.
