Originally a term used by hunters, the Big Five were given this name not because of their size, but because of how difficult and dangerous it was to catch them. They include the Cape Buffalo, leopard, rhinoceros, African Elephant and lion.

DOG 101

poodle Everyone should have a fluffy friend! Standard Poodles stand at 15 inches tall and their hair can range from coarse to soft. They are very intelligent dogs and get along well with almost everyone, although they can be shy around strangers.

The word poodle comes from the German word pfudel, which means “puddle” or “to splash”. This reflects their enjoyment of swimming and being in the water. The Poodle became a popular pet in France and eventually became the national dog of France. Standard Poodles enjoy exercise and should get some form of it every day. Poodles should not live outside as they enjoy being with their owner.
