HUMAN

HUNTERS!

This terrifying tiger is said to have killed more people than any other man-eater in history! Men, women and children were ambushed by her in Nepal in the late 19th century. The army was eventually called out to hunt the cunning beast, but she escaped over the border into India to continue her killing spree. The tigress is reported to have killed over 436 humans before famous hunter, Jim Corbett, tracked her down by following the bloody trail of her latest victim.

THESE MEAT EATING CREATURES ARE KNOWN TO HAVE HUNTED HUMANS! Many man-eaters turn to human prey when they’re too wounded or old to hunt their natural food sources.

Scientists believe Gustave, estimated to be 20 feet in length and one ton in weight, turned to large prey like humans because he was too big to hunt smaller prey!

A mysterious wolf-like creature terrorised a French province called Gevauden from 1764-1767, killing 113 victims. Some said it was a werewolf!

Gum disease and tooth decay caused the Leopard of Panar to turn to humans instead of its usual wild prey. It killed over 400 people before it was killed.

Dingos, Australia’s wild dog, have been known to snatch and eat children, with over 400 dingo attacks reported on Fraser Island alone.

THE

TSAVO

LIONS!

The most brutal bear attack in Japan’s history took place in the remote village of Sankebetsu in 1915, when a giant brown bear called Kesagake went on a rampage and killed six people in only two days, mauling them to death in their own homes! An expert bear hunter finally managed to stop the violent beast, which stood three metres tall and weighed 380kg.

The Ghost and The Darkness are two lions who terrorised a group of railroad workers along Kenya’s Tsavo River in 1898. The ferocious felines crawled through thorn fences to make their deadly kills and even snatched sleeping workers out of bed. The attacks only came to an end when chief engineer John Henry Patterson finally managed to hunt the pair down.

GRUESOME GUSTAVE! Most man-eaters are just bad memories, but Gustave, a massive Nile crocodile from Burundi, is still killing people to this day! Gustave, whose death count is supposedly over 300 people, carries the countless scars from knives, spears and bullet holes from hunters, but they’ve all failed to end his reign of terror!

The great white shark got its fearsome reputation thanks to a series of deadly shark attacks along the coast of New Jersey in America in 1916 – a time when most scientists thought sharks were harmless to humans! Four people were killed and one seriously injured by the man-eater, who’d developed a taste for human flesh. The event led to panic all across America and was the inspiration behind the movie, Jaws! ©Thinkstockphotos

KOMODO DRAGON The largest lizard on the planet, the komodo dragon is one of the closest descendants of dinosaurs. Many people think they’re venomous creatures, but instead they have lots of bacteria in their saliva that is so strong that, when they bite their prey, they will slowly die from the bacteria causing an infection in their wound.

AMAZING

LIZARDS! Our planet is crawling with lizards of all different shapes and sizes…

FRILL-NECKED LIZARD The frill-necked lizard is a really unusual looking species. They have this huge frilled skin around their neck that is usually flat against their neck. But, when they’re trying to attract a mate or to scare predators, the skin flares out showing off brightly coloured orange and red scales.

FACT The frill-necked lizard eats insects, other lizards, and even small mammals!

In warmer regions, geckos sometimes live inside people’s houses! They’re very welcome because they gobble up all the mosquitoes!

Chuckwallas feed on leaves, fruit and flowers – and it has been said that they prefer to munch on yellow flowers.

The gila monster only eats five to ten times a year in the wild! But when it does, it consumes up to a third of its body weight!

FLYING GECKO Chuckwalla

FACT

CHUCKWALLA Chuckwallas live in hot, dry climates and protect themselves from predators by hiding in rocky crevices. Then, they suck in lots of oxygen to expand their body, making it much harder for predators to pull them out of their hiding places. This is why they have lots of loose skin, to allow them to swell up as a defence mechanism.
