A Message from our Executive Director

I am thrilled to welcome you to another exciting season for young audiences! At DCT, we believe in the power of storytelling to inspire, educate, and entertain. This season, we have curated a delightful lineup of plays that are sure to spark joy, empathy, and imagination in children of all ages.

Kicking off our season is Grace for President, which presents valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork, and the importance of every voice in a community through the trials and tribulations of running for class president.

Next, we will celebrate the holiday season with A Charlie Brown Christmas. Join Charlie Brown and his friends as they discover the true meaning of Christmas amidst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. This beloved classic will remind us all of the joys of friendship, love, and the spirit of giving.

New this season is Dino-Light, presented by Lightwire Theater. This immersive experience will captivate audiences and create incredible visual landscapes, providing a magical atmosphere for families to enjoy together.

We will also continue our long tradition of presenting plays based on cherished books. This year audiences will get groovy with Pete the Cat and go on an adventure with James and the Giant Peach.

We are excited to embark on this journey with you and your children, and we look forward to seeing you at the theater! Thank you for your continued support, and let’s make this season a memorable one.

About the Performance/Author

This production of A Charlie Brown Christmas is based on the 1965 animated television special by Charles M. Schulz. Born on November 26, 1922, in Minneapolis, Schulz dreamed of becoming a cartoonist from a young age, publishing his first drawing, a picture of his dog Spike, at 15. He introduced Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the Peanuts gang in his 1950 comic strip Peanuts, with many characters inspired by real people and events, such as Snoopy, based on Schulz’s childhood dog, Spike. A Charlie Brown Christmas, the first TV special based on the comic, premiered on December 9, 1965, and won both an Emmy and a Peabody Award, becoming an annual holiday tradition on U.S. broadcast television.

Other Peanuts Holiday Specials Include:

A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) – Christmas

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966) – Halloween

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973) – Thanksgiving

It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown (1974) – Easter

Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown (1975) – Valentine’s Day

Happy New Year, Charlie Brown! (1986) – New Year’s

It’s Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown (1992) – Christmas

A Charlie Brown Valentine (2002) – Valentine’s Day

2. The actors on stage at Dallas Children’s Theater are adults, but they portray children in A Charlie Brown Christmas. What kinds of things did the actors do to seem more kid-like?

3. Describe the stage. What things did you first notice when the play began? Were there any surprises in the way the setting was shown?

4. Which Peanuts character is your favorite? Why?

5. Did the actors use any other space besides the stage during the performance? How did this affect you as an audience member?

6. Think about the music in the performance…how did it add to the show? How would it have been different if there wasn’t music?

7. Charlie Brown tells Lucy “I feel depressed. I know I should be happy, but I’m not.” Have you ever had an experience where you felt down during what you thought should have been a happy time? Why do you think this is? Did anything help you during that time?

DALLAS CHILDREN’S THEATER THANKS YOU!

Reflects gifts received through October 31, 2024.

On behalf of the 90,000 children and families served annually, we gratefully acknowledge our donors who through their contributions made it possible for DCT to present over 500 performances of high quality, professional theater for youth and families. Although program space limits our ability to publicly recognize only donors of $500 and above, we deeply and sincerely appreciate every contribution. As ticket sales cover a small percentage our costs, your annual financial support is critical to introducing North Texas children to the magic of live theater. How your gifts make a difference

Each year, Dallas Children’s Theater supporters help us carry out our mission to enrich and educate 90,000 youth and families through the power of live theater. Contributions from these generous donors help produce a complete professional season each year, and our education initiatives exist only through the support of individuals, corporations, and foundations. When you give, you introduce a child to the endless possibilities of the arts, creating moments they will never forget.
