A Message from our Executive Director

I am thrilled to welcome you to another exciting season for young audiences! At DCT, we believe in the power of storytelling to inspire, educate, and entertain. This season, we have curated a delightful lineup of plays that are sure to spark joy, empathy, and imagination in children of all ages.

Kicking off our season is Grace for President, which presents valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork, and the importance of every voice in a community through the trials and tribulations of running for class president.

Next, we will celebrate the holiday season with A Charlie Brown Christmas. Join Charlie Brown and his friends as they discover the true meaning of Christmas amidst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. This beloved classic will remind us all of the joys of friendship, love, and the spirit of giving.

New this season is Dino-Light, presented by Lightwire Theater. This immersive experience will captivate audiences and create incredible visual landscapes, providing a magical atmosphere for families to enjoy together.

We will also continue our long tradition of presenting plays based on cherished books. This year audiences will get groovy with Pete the Cat and go on an adventure with James and the Giant Peach.

We are excited to embark on this journey with you and your children, and we look forward to seeing you at the theater! Thank you for your continued support, and let’s make this season a memorable one.

About the Performance/Author

Grace for President is adapted from the same name book by Kelly DiPucchio. The book was inspired by a real-life event that happened to DiPucchio’s former editor’s daughter, Grace. When she was in preschool, her teacher showed the class a poster of all the Presidents of the United States, making her ask, “Where are the girls?” becoming Kelly’s inspiration and an important scene in the play. Once Kelly heard the story, Grace for President created to help children see themselves in leadership roles. It was published in 2008 and listed on York Times Best Seller list that same year.

Other books by Kelly DiPucchio:

Grace Goes to Washington (A follow-up to Grace for President)

Becoming Charley

Crafty Chloe

Crafty Chloe: Dress-Up Mess-Up

Super Manny Stands Up!

Super Manny Cleans Up!

For the Ride Home

Keep the fun going with a special activity for everyone!

1. Have you read the picture book Grace for President? How was the play different from the book? How was it similar?

2. Compare and contrast the two candidates, Grace and Thomas. Who would you have voted for if you were a character in the play?

3. Grace was inspired to run for president after learning there had never been a female president. Have you ever been inspired to make a difference like Grace? Describe what happened.

4. This kind of play is called a musical. How did the songs help tell the story of Grace for President?

5. What did you think of the set? What do you think the set designer had to consider when creating a set that looked like an elementary school?

6. What did you learn about elections while watching Grace for President?

7. Although the actors in this play are adults, the characters they play are mainly children. What things do you think the actors had to work on in order to make you believe they were the young characters?

8. If you were running for president (of the United States or of your class), what would be your platform?

9. Why was Sam’s vote so important? Why do you think he chose the candidate he did?

10. Many theater artists, from the director to the designers, work together to help tell a story on stage. What sounds like an interesting theater job to you?

DALLAS CHILDREN’S THEATER THANKS YOU!

Reflects gifts received through August 16, 2024.

On behalf of the 250,000+ children and families served annually, we gratefully acknowledge our donors who through their contributions made it possible for DCT to present over 500 performances of high quality, professional theater for youth and families. Although program space limits our ability to publicly recognize only donors of $500 and above, we deeply and sincerely appreciate every contribution. As ticket sales cover only half our costs, your annual financial support is critical to introducing North Texas children to the magic of live theater. How your gifts make a difference

Each year, Dallas Children’s Theater supporters help us carry out our mission to enrich and educate 150,000 youth and families through the power of live theater. Contributions from these generous donors help produce a complete professional season each year, and our education initiatives exist only through the support of individuals, corporations, and foundations. When you give, you introduce a child to the endless possibilities of the arts, creating moments they will never forget.
