Bull Sale welcome to our t h i r t y- t h i r d A n n ua l

On behalf of those here at Pearson Cattle Co, we welcome you to our 33rd annual sale. As you go through this catalog you will see we have a diversified genetic base of three breeds. It has been our experience that these compliment each other very well. Today, and in the future, a planned crossbreeding program has the greatest opportunity for profitability. The cattle offered in this sale have risen to the top, only the best 30% of all bull calves born are included in this sale lineup. We run our cows, just like you as commercial producers run yours. We expect our cows to calve unassisted, wean heavy offspring and breed back. No other breed can match Gelbvieh and Balancer for pounds of calf weaned per cow exposed. The most highly profitable cattle are those that have the best fertility and maternal traits.

j We thank you for your interest and past support, and feel free to call us anytime about the program and this sale offering. We like nothing better than to discuss the cattle business, your program and ours. Sincerely, The Pearsons

Very few bulls in the AGA database can match the genetic profile of SuperSport. He ranks in the top 35% or higher for 9 EPD traits. Not only does he have the genetic indicator data, he has the ability to transmit those traits on to his offspring His sons offered in this sale are consistent in their phenotype, performance and data profiles. Not only is SuperSport a moderate birth, high growth sire his maternal traits are also impressive, ranking in the top 25% or higher for Heifer Pregnancy (HP), Preg30 (indicates the number of first calf females to breed back), and Stayability. These reproductive traits lead to increase profitability.

This will be the first offering from this sire and we couldn’t be more pleased with his production. Roy possesses more muscle shape and dimension than any sire we have used recently. His sons in this offering are big square hipped bulls that are correct in their structural makeup, feet and bone. As with all new sires here, the first year, they get a cross section of the cowherd to see if they will be a true breeding bull. Needless to say, Roy passed. His sons will make performance bulls and the females have an awesome look about them, the kind that can compete not only in the show ring, but also as brood matrons.

This past year he sired the heifer calf that was part of the champion cow calf pair at Agribition and that same heifer calf won her class at the National Western. Raised by a first calf heifer that will be a donor in the near future. His birth weight and CED EPDs suggest calving ease. His actual birth weight is somewhat misleading, since his mother was a show heifer for Haley. Do believe he will work on a set of larger framed heifers. This son of Archimedes is from a stalwart of an Angus cow that we have flushed successfully in the past. This bull has his sire’s growth pattern, dimension and muscle shape and at the same time, offers the calving ease so in demand today. 5047 is a non registered bull and does not have a DNA test for coat color. Commercial cattleman pay attention here, he’s worth a serious look.

M4 as he is called around here, is a maternal half brother to the original Connealy Consensus bull. He has sired numerous high sellers for Connealy Angus in Nebraska and Knoll Crest Farms in Virginia. M4’s legacy will be carried on through his tremendous daughters and in the future via embryo transplant. His daughters are the moderate framed, highly productive kind that breed back and produce outstanding offspring regardless of the mating. These two ET sons, may be the best to date. We feel they have a lot to offer in the areas of female makers and high growth cattle that will have the ability to perform in the feedlot. These are Herd Bull candidates.

These ET sons of M4 and the Ty daughter 7075 are full brothers to the bull that topped the 2014 sale at $16,000. Like him, they too have the added look, depth and performance of their full brother. Definitely a sale feature. There are four full sisters to these bulls that are exceptional. Will not be the last however, since we put in more of this mating last summer. With a limited semen supply on M4, his future use will be either in embryo production or the mating to the elite cows in the herd.

Purchased for use on heifers and the results have been great. From his first calf crop we can say he is a definite heifer bull, but at the same time, his progeny have the ability to grow and perform. A3131 is moderate framed, soft in his rib shape and expressive in his muscle shape. We plan to keep a lot of the daughters because of their ability to hold down mature size, add calving ease and strong maternal traits. In this sire group you will find bulls suitable for use on heifers, but still sire calves with some muscle shape.

Sired by the great Angus sire SAV Pioneer 7301. When we first saw this bull at Forbes Gelbvieh and then analyzed his data, we knew we needed to make an effort to own him. It’s hard to find bulls with his phenotype, growth curve and balanced set of EPD’s as Troy has. Then to have him as a calving ease bull, only adds to his value as a breeding bull. Will again be getting calves from heifers, but because of his present weight and size, he will be moved onto an elite set of cows. We are retaining a son to replace him for use on heifers.

For some, Troy, not being homozygous black is a negative. When you can find a bull that can produce cattle like this rascal, color becomes a non issue. Raised by a first calf heifer, born unassisted and exploded from birth to weaning and hasn’t taken his foot off the gas pedal, there is only one thing left – try to own him. With the pedigree lineup, believe he will work on heifers.

This bull is suppose to be an ET calf sired by 7229 by a Basin Max daughter Diamond Lucy 180R. Will hopefully know before the sale for sure. Our best guess is that is what he is. Offers an outstanding genetic package if this holds true.

We purchased a semen package on BPF Middleman the first time we saw him. This bull has had a dominant show career being named Champion Maine Anjou bull at all the majors during his show career. However, he is much more than just a “Show Bull”, his first calf crop has gotten it done, good solid performance bulls and outstanding replacement heifers. We sold a heifer this fall that recently resold in the Denver Bright Light’s Sale, She topped the open heifer calves at $13,000. Another heifer we raised was just named Champion Maine Anjou heifer at the 2016 Watertown Winter Farm Show and went on to be Reserve Champion Supreme Female.

The mother of this bull was the Champion Maine-Anjou female for the Holt’s at the Black Hills Stock Show in 2011 and is now a donor in our Maine Anjou program. We have several full sisters and all are in the replacement heifer pen. Certainly a bull that will sire fancy feeder calves and those sought after replacement heifers. Predictable performance here with low birth weight EPD and big time Weaning and Yearling weight EPD’s

Just one Mad Money son in the offering this year and this one is thick. If you have a set of generic black cows just tie into this Mad Money son. He will definitely add muscle and style to any set of feeder cattle. Maine Anjou cattle are the best kept secret in the cattle business, they consistently perform in the feedlot and on the rail. The mother of this bull is a maternal sister to the 5136 bull proof of how good cow families make great bulls.

Meeting demands of the modern beef industry. Added Fertility and Greater Cow Herd Longevity Reproduction is one of the greatest profit drivers on a cattle operation. Without the ability to reproduce and remain in the herd, a female does not do her job. Gelbvieh and Balancer females provide greater longevity through added fertility to the cowherd, making them the reliable choice. U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) data shows Gelbvieh females have the smallest mature cow size of the seven major beef cattle breeds (Figure 1). This reduced mature cow size allows for puberty to be reached at an earlier age, which leads to calving earlier in the season and producing a heavier calf at weaning time.

(Figure 2) To help provide ranchers with tools to select more profitable females, the American Gelbvieh Association (AGA) offers: Heifer Pregnancy (HP EPD) Predicts the probability a bull’s daughters will become pregnant as first-calf heifers in a regular breeding season, and is expressed as a percentage. 30-month Pregnancy (PG30 EPD) The probability that a bull’s daughters will become pregnant and calve at three years of age, given they have calved as first-calf heifers. (Figure 1) Along with reaching puberty at an earlier age, Gelbvieh and Balancer females also excel in stayability, which is the probability a bull’s daughters will remain in the cow herd until at least six years of age. With the high costs associated with the development or purchase of replacement females, sustained production is essential in a herd (Figure 2 - next column).

$Cow index Represents the genetic value in dollars of profit of an animal when retained as a replacement female relative to other animals in the herd. This serves producers in selecting bulls that will sire daughters with stayability and reproductive efficiency as well as other traits that lead to profitability in the production system, such as milk, calving ease, moderate mature weight and the ability of calves to gain.
