Beastrom and Prairie Hill Gelbvieh 2015 Fall Female Sale

Page 1

WELCOME

TO OUR 2015 FEMALE SALE...

Welcome to our second genetic opportunity sale! We are pleased to have the Sickler family from Prairie Hills Gelbvieh joining us this year and feel that our programs and breeding philosophies complement one another very well and that our combined offering will truly have something that will fit every program out there. When my wife Barb and I sold our main cow herd two years ago, we retained 15 choice lots to implement into an extensive embryo transfer program. Our goal was not to rebuild the actual number of our cow herd, but to produce superior genetics as quickly as possible within a recipient herd. This gives us the ability to run a smaller cow herd, while maintaining superior genetics that will excel within all aspects of the industry. The females offered in this sale are the direct result of that goal and are the first offering from those elite donor cows. We have once again decided to put everything out on the table and let you decide on 10 of the lots in the sale. Meaning we will offer 10 Choice lots where you get to have first pick, with one heifer going to the buyer and the other female to be retained in our herd for future embryo production. Many of these lots are full ET sisters. We are offering all of the top replacement heifers in our herd, holding nothing back. We would like to retain the right to one flush at our expense, and at the convenience of the buyer, on all lots sold in the sale, unless stated otherwise within the footnote. Please feel free to give us a call or stop by the ranch at anytime to discuss or view the sale offering. We are looking forward to seeing you on November 7th.

THANK YOU, Jim & Barb Beastrom

2015 FALL FEMALE SALE

On behalf of Prairie Hills Gelbvieh, we'd like to welcome everyone to our first female sale. A big “Thank You to everyone at Beastrom Ranch for inviting us to be a part of this big event. We started talking about partnering on a sale over a year ago and it's great to finally see it come together. We've known Jim and his family since we got into the Gelbvieh breed 30 years ago, and it's always fun to work with good friends. We began our cowherd expansion in 2009 when Klint and Maralee returned to the ranch. We currently calve 125 purebred females each year, as well as implanting around 40 embryos per year. Since we run at maximum capacity, there is incredible pressure on every female to perform every year. This has opened the door for us to offer females that normally would not be available for sale. As you look through the catalog, you'll notice quite a few females are outcross breeding to many of the popular bloodlines in the Gelbvieh breed. Due to the way our pastures are situated, we are unable to do any AI breeding, so all females are pasture exposed to bulls owned by PHG. This makes bull selection increasingly difficult, but it means that these are some of the only daughters that will be offered carrying these genetics. There are cows that have been part of our donor pen, cows that should be donors, bred heifers, show prospects, and future Dams of Merit in this offering. Thanks again for your interest in our program. If you have any questions as you read through the catalog, please don't hesitate to give Klint or Galen a call and we'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. We look forward to seeing everyone in Pierre in November!

THANK YOU,

Galen & Marcia Sickler Klint, Maralee, Kylee & Emerson Sickler

Her dam, BMB 7060T is a natural daughter of BEA 4022P and rising to the top of our purebred side of the herd, she consistently has cattle that are broody and well balanced. BEA 433B is an outcross to most pedigrees due to the fact we do not offer many females from this cow family at auction and is sired by SAV Best interest, a powerful Schaff raised AI herd sire. She is safe to her AI date of 5/10/2015 to BABR Secret Brand, this mating is sure to be a good one. This is a very unique opportunity to own some exciting new genetics. BEA 5103C is one of the softest made, deepest sided females I have ever seen, combined with thickness, eye appeal and the ability to move freely. This is a female that we feel will work in any program. Her dam DLW 321A was purchased at “The Chosen Few” sale and she was one of the most talked about females at the NWSS that year. We placed her in IVF as an open heifer; we had 4 calves born in 2015 including her natural calf and they are all impressive out of multiple sires. 5103C was the only daughter out of these matings and we truly feel that this female will be going places. The consistency of her dam and the added thickness, length and performance from her sire make this female one to watch. Retaining ½ embryo interest.

BABR 5141C is another exciting female sired by BABR Branded Man 3400A. She is long spined, deep sided and soft middled. She combines a stout skeletal structure with soundness and eye appeal. This is a heifer that has all the right pieces to be a big producer in this breed. Her dam consistently produces cattle that “make the sale” year in and year out and this is one of the only daughters we have had from this cow family. Definitely mark her as one to look at.

BEA 417B is another daughter of BEA Common Sense 200Z and is a perfect example of what is in store for Lots 24A and 24B. 417B is one of the most well balanced females in the offering; she covers her track with a big foot, has depth of chest floor and is soft sided and thick made. Her mother is a full ET sister to the dam of lot 30B and I think you will see the consistency in cow family. She sells bred pasture exposed to BEA 3407A or ACGC Black Genesis 403B.

BEA 5241C is a nice made daughter of Common Sense that is a long bodied, soggy middled, attractive fronted female that is sound and easy fleshing with a great disposition. Her dam is sired by BABR 114Y ET, an ET littermate to BABR Guinevere 1015Y, who was the 2013 National Champion Balancer Female. 114Y is one of our favorite AI sires due to his fleshing ability, balance, growth and performance.

BEA 5114C is a fancy made heifer that has an abundance of rib shape combined with an angular skeletal structure and clean lines. This heifer just gets better with time. Sired by EXAR Pay Stub, who is also the sire of BEA 8212U (resident donor cow at the ranch), BABR 7062T (the dam of BABR Branded Man 3400Z who is the sire to lots 4, 14, 15 and 16), BABR 7061T (2009 National Champion Balancer female that will see in the pedigree of lots 26 and 32) and BMB 8213U (the dam of lot 15). Pay Stub Daughters are unarguably some of the most consistent and powerfully producing cows we have worked with.

This is a heifer that hit us hard at an early age, she is one of the longest bodied females in the offering and she still maintains the ability to hit her track with fluidity and ease. She long and angular fronted with a thick and strong top line. She is soft in her appearance and is sired by SGRI Mission who is a pioneer son we purchased from Steve Schroeder and we are very happy with the performance of his calf crop. His daughters are consistently long, thick and attractive made females that started with a low birth and are finishing with big performance. Paternal sisters sell as lots 30B, 31, 32 & 33 and her dam is a maternal sister to lots 29A & 29B and is also a full sister to the grand dam of lot 33 (reference photo to lot 29A BEA Miranda 4014P).

Cool fronted, wide topped, with great hair, she offers a wealth of options for breeding. Front pasture quality that you can put to work. If there was one cow on the place that we should have flushed, it is 642S. Awesome fronted, deep ribbed, wide topped – she’s a real producer. One of her best daughters was high selling female at the 2012 Canadian National Sale to Twisted T Gelbvieh. She has gone on to be one of the leading foundation females in their emerging program. As a 75% female, you have the option of breeding her for Purebreds, or Balancers, and she’ll click either direction. We’ve always wanted to work her into the donor program, but there’s just too many eggs and not enough recips. Flush her or breed her, you’re going to have to look hard to find one this proven with this much unrealized potential. Dam of Merit in 2012, 2013. Sells bred to DDGR Yukon 172Z for a 3/21/2016 black purebred bull calf.

We purchased CVV 58P out of the VanderVorst dispersion in 2010 with the intent of adding her to our donor lineup. Her first ET calves arrived in 2014 and were some of the most appreciated females at our open house this summer. Females out of 58P are clean fronted, deep bodied and are consistently top producers. Her bull calves are long sided, deep ribbed, with an extra dose of eye appeal. She’s an outcross to nearly every popular blood line in the breed and is in the top 1% for many EPD traits – her breeding options are unlimited! We had her on the schedule to flush again, but have decided to spread the wealth. She sells open and ready to flush!

We had intended on putting her into embryo production, but when it came time to choose some top end females for this female, we kept circling back to 5038R. With her pedigree you can flush her any direction you like. Put her into production and let the checks roll in! Sells open and ready to flush..

Annie Oakley stems from one of the first females that Klint purchased when he was establishing his own cow herd. R03 has gone on to produce 2 bull futurity candidates, numerous females in production, and her 2015 heifer calf in a candidate for the show string. She’s one of those girls that seems to click with anything. She sells bred to RWG Yikes 1512 for a 4/14/2016 calf. Ultrasound was unable to determine fetal sex.

Really cool combination of genetics and phenotype in this female. Xavier on the top side, coupled with Thrust, Payday, and Irish on the bottom. It’s rare that you can find maternal qualities along with carcass character in the same package, let alone in an outcross package. Strong effort here from her first calving mother!.

Lot 47 stems from one of the most consistent Fighting Irish daughters at PHG. Her last 3 heifers have landed in the show string, with one commanding $9,000 in the 2012 Canadian National sale to Royal Western Gelbvieh. C53’s dam is a full sister and was shown as an open and a bred heifer. The combination of Why Me, Irish, and Jackson gives this female the potential to be a maternal powerhouse. Sucker Punch has probably garnered more attention than any aged bull we’ve shown, and for good reason. Seldom do you find a purebred bull with a cleaner front and thicker quarter that breeds true. Sucker stamps every one of his daughters and B92 is proof. She stems from an awesome, moderate made VG female from Canada. She sells bred to RWG Yikes 1512 for a 3/31/2016 purebred bull calf.

Here’s a full sister to the B92 female offered above. Like her sister, she’s stamped with the trademark Sucker Punch goose front, straight lines, and wide hip. She’s the youngest female we have on offer, so she’s a bit green, but she’s still something special. If you’re looking for a junior project, the Sucker Punch daughters have all ingredients.

Here’s a don’t miss opportunity in C12. This is the first, and possibly only daughter of Super Flex to be offered at auction. We purchased Flex as one of the top sellers from J&K Gelbvieh and used him on heifers the first year – all calving unassisted. We lost Flex to an injury last summer, so this is his only calf crop available. Lots of local breeding is evident through the pedigree – Beethoven, Hot Fudge, and The Judge need no introduction. Lots of maternal power top and bottom – great foundation female potential!

MALES: Bulls are guaranteed to be breeders (defined as ability to settle healthy cows by 18 months of age) with the exception of bull calves sold at the side of dam, injury or disease occurring to the animal after time of sale, and gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the purchaser. Any guarantees with respect to ability to freeze semen shall be made by separate agreement between the buyer and seller. ADJUSTMENTS: The following adjustments do not preclude the right of buyer and seller to mutually agree upon other terms and conditions for settlement of any dispute. All claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writing either within six (6) months from the time of sale or not later than six (6) months after the animal reaches eighteen (18) months of age, whichever occurs first, with the exception of claims involving misrepresentation of service sire or as otherwise provided herein. If a female is sold as “safe in calf” to a given sire or sires on a specified date or dates and proves not to be represented, the buyer is entitled to a refund of the purchase price from the seller upon return of the animal to the farm of the seller at the seller’s expense. In the event an animal is claimed to be a nonbreeder, the animal may be returned to the farm of the seller, at the buyer’s expense, if in good physical condition and the return is in compliance with the health requirements of the state where purchased. The seller shall be entitled a six (6) month trial period in which to prove the animal is a breeder, the seller shall, at his option, replace the animal with another of equal value or refund the purchase price. Either option shall be deemed full satisfaction and settlement. Any animal returned will be at the purchaser’s risk. No guarantee is given concerning a pregnant female’s gestation period or calf’s condition. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold nor for sickness not apparent at sale time. If a female is sold as “open” and proves to be with calf at time of sale and examined pregnant within sixty (60) days after sale, the buyer may return the animal to the farm of seller prior to calving for a refund of the full purchase price or for another mutually acceptable adjustment. It shall be the obligation of the seller to bear all expenses incurred for transportation of the animal in question to the farm of the seller. Any adjustment provided herein, if selected, shall absolve the seller from further liability.
