A note from the consignors…
Cattle have treated us very well for quite a while, and it appears we are still sending close to the same number of heifers to town with the steers, which allows us some confidence that the good times will continue for the forseeable future, especially if the economy gets stronger and more beef is consumed.

About the EPDs: The bulls in the Southwest Iowa Gelbvieh & Balancer Sale have been tested and rated on all the major tests for breeding bulls; including ultra-sound for carcass, semen tested, scrotal measured, BVD tested and the new EPDs for weights, milk, carcass, etc. The new EPDs are more accurate through genetic testing, termed “Genomic Enhancement”. This is done by picking out genetic markers in blood samples for individual EPD traits and the degree they influence each trait. In the past EPDs have been calculated from many generations of weigths and growth. The addition of genomic markers for each trait, combining the past accumulated records gives us the more accurate genomic enhanced EPDs.

Martens Gelbvieh is located near Walnut, Iowa where we have lived for the past 35 years. We are a small family operation that raises mostly corn, soybeans, and a few Gelbvieh cattle. Our introduction to Gelbvieh was in 1989 when we purchased our first Gelbvieh bull (the only breed we have ever had ), we joined the American Gelbvieh Association the next year and started breeding up our cows to be purebreds, and we bought a few PBs along the way. We sold a few bulls privately for a few years then in 2010 we got together with a few other Gelbvieh breeders and started The Southwest Iowa Gelbvieh & Balancer Bull Sale which is now in its 15th year. We are currently running about 30 purebred black cows and sell our top bulls and replacement heifers in the sale. We would like to thank all of our past customers and everyone else that has showed interest in our cattle and our sale over the years. We hope to see you on March 21st.
MCCreary gelBvieh / JiM MCCreary Mt. ary, ioWa / 641-464-3178
We started our Gelbvieh herd in 1979 when we bought some Gelbvieh cross cows from Cooper Brothers in Oklahoma. We used a purebred bull and also used A.I. semen from fullblood bulls. We have been pushing purebreds ever since. Our family has had as many as 150 pairs. Since I have retired, we have cut way back to be calving 15 to 20 cows a year. We try buying different bloodlines within our bulls and A.I. work. As my grandchildren have grown to love the cattle, we show what we raise and believe in. I myself and my wife, Carol, my son, Ed, and his family and my daughter, Barb, and her family are all involved in raising and showing of our cattle. We are striving to produce high quality cattle in our small herd. We wish each of you good luck in your purchases and hope to see you in the future.
rafter r gelBvieh / Carl & Jennie reiste adel, ioWa / 515-490-3561
We started working into Gelbvieh in 1983. We AI'd other continental breeds for a few years until we got three quarter bloods. I found Gelbvieh was the breed I liked best all the way through purebreds. They just made a home for themselves and we added Balancers soon after. We've driven from Texas into Canada and from Indiana through Montana looking at bulls. I believe the great breeders we've met and purchased bulls from are a lot like the cattle they raise…honest, hard working and top of the line. I believe there are more differences within a breed than between breeds.

Hobbs Gelbvieh is a family operation raising Gelbvieh for 35 years. We have focused over the years on cows with excellent disposition, problem free genetics. We currently run 45 cows with 95% being purebred genetics with most being outcross genetics. If you are looking for a sound good performing cattle that will work year after year we would like to share our genetics.

Tyler Beenken, along with his family, operate Beenken Farms in Northern Tama County. We started utilizing Gelbvieh bulls on our commercial cow herd in the early 2000s and loved the results. Calves that would come easy, grow and yield high weaning weights. We also loved the maternal traits in heifers we retained as well as the longevity Gelbvieh genetics brought to the table. In 2006 we purchased our first registered female for me to show in 4H. We enjoyed everything about the breed from a cattle stand point along with the helpfulness among producers in the breed. Our herd now consist mostly of registered cattle along with a few commercial cows. We strive to produce bulls and female that work in any environment. Bulls that are solid from the ground up, structural correctness is priority number one!

MJBC Gelbvieh was started in 1993 with the purchase of two bulls from the late Frances Bradshaw. We are located in west central Iowa outside the town of Audubon. My family consists of my wife Carrie (an elementary principal) and our children Chris and Ruthie. We run 50 pairs and also raise corn, soybeans, and alfalfa on owned and rented ground. From those two bulls we have bred our herd up to mostly black purebred cows. With the use of AI, ET, and live bull coverage, we have been able to improve our cattle herd. Our goal is to produce cattle that are functional in both the pasture and the feed yard with eye appeal. As one of the original members of the Southwest Iowa Gelbvieh and Balancer Bull & Female Sale, I would like to thank you for your interest in our bulls and heifers and supporting this annual sale.

Roy Holste and wife, Nancy, own and operate Triple H Farms. We got started in the late 1980s/early 1990s. I bought my first Gelbvieh cows when Northwest Missouri State College sold their Gelbvieh herd. We run around 60 head of [urebred cows with the goal of making our calves deep, wide and soggy with a lot of carcass merit.
Kopriva gelBvieh / anthony & raChael Kopriva Clutier, ioWa / 319-231-6279
My father started raising Gelbvieh cattle in 1988. He liked the maternal traits along with the docility that Gelbvieh cattle had to offer. It didn’t take long until I was working by his side. Through 4H, I started showing and grew my own herd. I continued to improve the herd with artificial insemination and soon added some embryo transfer. Still to this day we focus on maternal and docility, in addition we strive to improve all traits across the board bringing well rounded quality animals to the sale ring. In 2018, I married my wonderful wife. We now have two young kids. While there have been changes throughout the years, one thing has stayed the same - the focus on raising high quality Gelbvieh cattle.

RARE BALANCER OPPERTUNTIY! TLKG Laredo, sired by the Angus bull JVC Cavalry, is indeed in my opinion the rarest pedigree out there. This is what happens when you combine the great maternal traits from Cavalry with my best maternal Gelbvieh cow family. That in combination of well balanced carcass traits. This moderated framed teddy bear of a bull is a big middled thick female making machine that will also put steers at the top of the carcass grid. Homo Black and Homo Polled.

Really stylish made ET son of the great TJB Anissa 579C 954G cow. This bull was a stand out in the pasture all summer long and keeps getting better. His mother made a statement on the 2024 National Gelbvieh Sale commanding a price of $22,000 for 50% embryo interest. Here is an opportunity to tap into some great genetics! Judging by pictures I have seen of his dam, 54M2 should make excellent quality replacement heifers. This bull has a long line of amazing TJB females behind him.
