Under various titles, Spirit of the Dragon has been serving the Del Dios School community since 1961, winning numerous awards in its 50 years for both editorial and design. Spirit of the Dragon is read by DDMS staff, students and their families, district employees, the four other middle schools in Escondido, members of the EUSD School Board, Kiwanis and Rotary Club members and by the surrounding business community. In addition, papers are sent to article contributors from all over the United States and a few over seas. Spirit of the Dragon covers on-campus and off-campus news, entertainment, and sports events. The newspaper also provides a place for student voice highlights their accomplishments throughout the year.
circulation & distribution Spirit of the Dragon circulates a minimum of 1,000 issues for every publication. It is distributed to each student and staff member on campus as well as to over 25 target points within the Escondido Union School District. Spirit of the Dragon prints approximately every six weeks for a total of 7 issues during the school year. Papers are distributed the first school day following delivery.

advertising Spirit of the Dragon, a student-produced publication, is published both in print and online seven times during the school year. With a diverse student population and wideranging audience, the newspaper’s content and format reflects both the need to inform our student and staff population and the other four middle schools within the district as well as highlight news and happenings within our larger city community and at the same time provide exposure for the local business community surrounding our campus. Each issue is printed and distributed to all of the newspaper’s delivery sites around Escondido and is also available online at www.ddmsnews.com. Each issue is featured as an interactive publication with page turns. This provides an added bonus to advertisers - as your ad is viewable for the entire year to all online viewers.
