Smith&Jones About the Artists: Olga Alexander is a mixed media painter and installation artist from New York. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Berkeley and her M.F.A. degree from the University of Tennessee. While in Tennessee, she was the director of a now defunct multi-disciplinary art space, A-1Art/Lab Art Space. Her work is inspired by popular culture, comics, science, fashion and architecture and her process often mimics Alice’s run down the rabbit hole. Joseph Barrel is a painter and graphic artist. His Brooklyn studio / darkroom is where he creates his pieces. Working back and forth between several pieces, Joseph’s work combines, and sometimes blurs, the lines between his two passions; painting and photography. Each piece influences the outcome of the other. Most recently experimenting with sculpture, collage, photo emulsion, chemical painting and cameras, Joseph’s work is driven by both curiosity and patience. (http://jbarral.com/)

The Amy Bassin & Mark Blickley text based art collaboration began this past year after they read Man Ray’s memoir, Self-Portrait, and were enthralled by the Dadaist experiments that combined fine art photography with poetic texts. Excerpts from their text based art series, Dream Streams, were recently published in Maintenant 9, Gravel Magazine and The Magnolia Review and featured as an art installation at the 5th Annual NYC Poetry Festival on Governors Island. Bassin is a fine arts photographer/video artist and a co-founder of the international artists collective, Urban Dialogues. Blickley’s most recent book is Sacred Misfits (Red Hen Press). His play, Bed Bugs & Beyond, recently ended a 5 month NYC run. He is a proud member of the Dramatist Guild and PEN American Center. (www.amybassin.com) 0 Kia Dyson is an artist whose mediums consist of photography, collage art and digital design. Currently residing in Brooklyn, New York — this Baltimore native finds solace in creating. She appreciates and frames life as it is in all of its complexities, and uses the camera and computer to bring the oftentimesnuanced beauty of it all — and of everyone — to the forefront. Her photography work has been on display at The Reginald Lewis Museum, The Aljira Center of Contemporary Art, and The Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago and Scope Miami. Megan Elizabeth is a Maryland native and currently a Brooklyn-based abstract painter and illustrator. Megan has her BA in Fine Arts from the University of Maryland and has lived abroad in Spain and traveled often. Much of the inspiration for the works by the artist are from her time spent abroad, from landscapes and from sunsets and beach scenes. Art by Megan also draws inspirations from overlapping textures in nature, extreme light and darkness and observing changes in natural forms over time. (www.artbymegan.com)
Robyn Ellenbogen is a visual artist working in varied forms from 12th century techniques of silverpoint and egg tempera to digital animation, photography, interactive installations and artist books. (www.robynellenbogen.com)

The Art Of Giving Deep in the peri-urban zone of historic Flatbush, Catherine Rutgers observes the sky with keen appreciation, as colors shift from hour to hour, and objects on the ground become more definitive or less distinct. After studying culture and society, art history and art at SUNY Purchase, she created a cooperative gallery, Shifting Sands (1977-1980), and worked continuously with collage, construction, and mixed media on canvas. In 2009, Ms. Rutgers joined the ArcheTime dialogue of artists and scientists, and is presently entranced by the duality of onscreen and printed images, exploring a territory between artifice and natural phenomena to deliver technologically mediated elements in an interior, human-occupied space, or conversely, reveal an experience akin to watching the sky. Torgrim Wahl Sund lives and works in Bergen, Norway. His practice is concerned with the key existentialist questions of how we perceive the world around us and how do we deal with memory. With drawing, painting, printmaking, installation and video Wahl Sund investigates topics such as the connection between body, technology and science, simplicity/ complexity. In 2010, he received his MA in Art from Bergen Academy of Art and Design. His exhibitions have included House of Foundation (Moss), Kreuzberg Pavillon (Berlin), NOoSphere (New York), Galleri Ramsfjord (Oslo), and Galleri S.E. (Bergen). He received The Merit Prize at the International Biennial Print Exhibit 2014 roc (Taichung), NOoSphere (New York). (www.twsund.com)

Smith&Jones Johan Wahlstrom, born in Stockholm, Sweden, lives and works in Malaga, Spain. He is a fifth-generation and internationally recognized artist, and has exhibited in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Elmhurst/Chicago, Miami, London, Berlin, Milan, Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona, Zurich and Stockholm. A highlighted artist at New York's 2013 Fridge Art Fair, Walhstrom is now a residency at the Family Foundation/MANA Contemporary in Jersey City. In Artvoices magazine, Kirsten Nicholas has said of this work: "[it] aims to elucidate the uncontrollable nature of reality in an effort to embrace the small sufferings that signify life”. His art has been the subject of several books. (www.johanwahlstrom.com)
In 2003, Yoichiro Yoda was working as a security guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. During one lunch at the staff cafeteria, he overheard two female security guards talking. One said, “Breakfast is important”. The other replied, with a very serious expression, “Yes it is”. Thinking this comment would make a great title and subject matter for a “breakfast series”, he began using empty milk cartons, cereal boxes, oatmeal cartons and coffee cups, painting them with acrylic paint, then drawing the images with a Sharpie marker. The characters he has created include Gretchen the Met Guard, Bunny the Roller Derby Girl, and his cat Gorky. (www.yoichiroyoda.com)
