Meeting and training spaces now available for hire
We are very pleased to have moved, in March, to our new premises at Russell Town Avenue, Redfield, Bristol, BS5 9JH. The move has given us a dedicated space for those that have booked with us already and we have received some excellent feedback to date. Our new building has 2 large training rooms, a conference room and a large auditorium which has the capacity to seat 150 theatre style. All of our spaces are available for professional lettings. Our lettings flyer with prices is attached to this newsletter. LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT We are a DfE accredited provider, recruiting now for our next NPQH, NPQSL & NPQML cohorts. Additional cohorts working towards this nationally recognised qualification will be starting in September with some funded places available. We are now delivering to separate cohorts in Bristol and Swindon so delegates can choose the location s more convenient to them. The course costs (including any assessment fee) are as follows: NPQH £1950, NPQSL £1250 and NPQML £750 (Fully funded places available for teachers in Opportunity areas/ Priority LAs) From September 2018 we will also be offering NPQEL (National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership) which supports the professional development of aspiring and serving executive headteachers and multi-academy trust (MAT) chief executive officers (CEOs). The CLF INSTITUTE continues to offer a range of training and support groups including: Mathematics Teacher Subject Specialist Training (TSST) - Flyer attached (FREE) To complement our existing course we are offering an intensive 4 day Mathematics TSST course in June and July to prepare non-Maths specialist teachers who may be timetabled to deliver secondary Maths lessons from September. Places on both courses are free and reasonable cover costs can be reimbursed to your school/ academy. Consisting of twelve free sessions , each lasting three hours, our year long TSST will begin again in September. Delivered by our highly experienced course deliverer you will learn about number sequences in KS3 through to trigonometry and vectors. The TSST is aimed at qualified teachers trained in subjects other than maths who want to convert to or are picking up some maths teaching. The opportunity to meet others in the same situation whilst gaining a mentor for the months ahead make this FREE course perfect for anyone new to teaching secondary maths. BME Leadership Development Programme (FREE) Aimed at aspiring and serving leaders from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgrounds as part of a national programme to increase the diversity of teaching staff in school leadership; sessions include building and leading effective teams, leading with moral purpose and emotional intelligence and in the summer term, there is training on preparing for job applications and interview processes. Each participant is also supported by a dedicated leadership coach throughout the programme. Our current cohort began in March and have participated in three sessions all delivered by Paulette Wisdom Sessions so far have included ‘Leadership - leading with moral purpose and emotional intelligence’, ‘Building and leading effective teams to transform practice’ and ‘Leading and facilitating change’. Spaces are still available for anyone who wishes to join the group for the remaining sessions This course is free to attend and funding is available for reasonable supply costs. The Boolean Maths Hub continues to promote maths education across the South West region and would like to make you aware of Teaching for Mastery opportunities for secondary school: There is an opportunity for maths departments to join a free professional development programme led by established Mastery Specialists. It follows the successful model already being used in thousands of primary schools. TRAIN TO TEACH with the CLF SCITT ‌ WE ARE RECRUITING NOW for our next cohort of amazing primary and secondary SCITT trainees. If you or someone you know is interested in training to teach and has the minimum requirements (a degree as well as GCSE at grade C /4 or above in English and Maths, also with Science for primary) Katharine Alcock, our SCITT Administrator would love to speak to you. SLEs available via the CLF Institute As you will see from our SLE register on our website we have over 40 SLEs designated within our Teaching School. Each SLE has been designated in a particular area. If you are interested in obtaining SLE support please contact ali.jones@clf.cabot.ac.uk who will be happy to help. Alternatively if you would be interested in becoming an SLE please also get in touch so that we can provide you with the application form. Have you heard about ‌ Our new Aspiring Leaders course begins in September Aimed at Recently Qualified Teachers and those early on in their teaching career this course will build upon the skills needed to take the first steps into middle leadership Our Emerging Middle Leaders and Emerging Senior Leaders - These popular twilight courses will begin again in January, names are being collected now for both cohorts. Both courses are available internally for CLF staff and also externally (for a small cost per session).
And finally … if you haven’t found your Appropriate Body for NQTs from September the CLF Institute can offer our basic level of service for £250 per NQT or our enhanced level for £350 per NQT. In addition to our basic level of service provision the enhanced level gives NQTs access to our NQT network and 6 termly training sessions over the course of the year, a complimentary place at our NQT Conference in January and an invitation for the Induction Tutor to attend the CLF annual summer conference . NEW FREE INTENSIVE 4 DAY MATHEMATICS TEACHER SUBJECT SPECIALISM TRAINING (TSST) 18 & 25 June and 9 & 16 July (9.00am - 3.45pm) Are you considering a change in subject? Are you teaching Mathematics from September for the first time but you didn’t specialise in Mathematics when you trained? If so come and join our free Mathematics TSST course Target audience: NON-SPECIALIST TEACHERS: Teachers who want to develop or improve their maths subject knowledge in order to potentially teach maths in addition to or instead of their main subject. RETURNERS TO TEACHING: Teachers who want to return to the profession to teach maths. Programme features: School-led, bespoke and differentiated to participants’ needs and starting points. Develop deep subject knowledge for teaching, including key concepts, misconceptions, processes and connections within maths. Initial audit and self-evaluation of current maths subject knowledge, prior maths qualifications, experience and confidence. The programme will be delivered through a blended learning approach, comprising face-to-face taught sessions, workshops, online self-study material, lesson observations, mentoring and support with planning.
