High-Energy, Progressive Bluegrass Group Yonder Mountain String Band Return to the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall Sunday, January 28, 2018
The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, in partnership with JaxLive, announce the return of Colorado-based high-energy, progressive bluegrass group Yonder Mountain String Band to the Concert Hall on Sunday, January 28, 2018. Tickets for Yonder Mountain String Band are on sale now. Yonder Mountain String Band’s first new album in two years, Love. Ain’t Love, is undeniably the Colorado-based progressive bluegrass outfit’s most surprising, creative, and yes, energetic studio excursion to date. Songs like “Chasing My Tail” and “Alison” are rooted in tradition but as current as tomorrow, animated by electrifying performance, vivid production, and the modernist power that has made Yonder one of the most popular live bands of their generation. Melding sophisticated song craft, irrepressible spirit, and remarkable instrumental ability, Love. Ain’t Love is a testament to Yonder Mountain String Band’s organic, dynamic, and intensely personal brand of contemporary bluegrass-fueled Americana. Yonder founding members Adam Aijala (guitar), banjo player Dave Johnston, and bassist Ben Kaufmann reconfigured Yonder Mountain String Band as a traditional bluegrass instrumental five-piece in 2014 with the recruitment of new players Allie Kral (violin) and Jacob Jolliff (mandolin). The reconstituted group debuted with 2015’s acclaimed Black Sheep, but truly gelled as they toured, the new players’ personalities seamlessly blending and elevating the intrinsically tight Yonder sound. Yonder made certain to show off the current roster’s growing strength with the 2017 release of Mountain Tracks: Volume 6, the first installment in their hugely popular live recording series since 2008. “This lineup just keeps getting better,” Aijala says. “The more gigs you get under your belt, the better you get. Obviously. But the confidence I have in these individual musicians, I’m amazed at some of the places we go together on stage.” Laced with interstitial dialogue, music, sound effects, and other overlapping ephemera, Love. Ain’t Love, is by design. Yonder’s most ingenious studio collection thus far. Songs like “Take A Chance On Me” and the heavy metalinspired breakdown, “Fall Outta Line,” see the quintet touching upon FM pop, country rock, funk, world music, and so much more; adopting traditional sonic and lyrical idioms to mask deeper and darker personal truths. “It’s a little more eclectic,” Aijala says. “None of us grew up with bluegrass so there are always other influences in there. I think this record is a bit more reminiscent of our live show, with different genres and different types of songs.” 2018 will see Yonder continue its seemingly endless touring, leading towards the 20th anniversary of their initial coming together, an irrefutably momentous occasion. “When we were first starting, our creativity was rooted in rebelliousness. Now, there’s a greater conscious awareness and attention to detail that we’re bringing to our writing and recording. Our nature and instincts remain progressive. We’re just doing it in a way that’s sharper, more musical, and way more satisfying,” says Kaufmann. Nearly two decades in, Yonder Mountain String Band is still utterly unto themselves, a one-ofa-kind, once-in-a-lifetime combo whose inventiveness, versatility, and sheer imagination shows no sign of winding down. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and St. Augustine Amphitheatre Box Offices, ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets and by phone at (800) 745-3000.

Amy’s Fabulous Makeover!
www.premierdesigns.com/Instyle To contact your “Instyle” team: yourinstyleteam@gmail.com There is something to be said for taking the time to write another person. I’ve always loved a good story, and appreciate authenticity in people who are asking for help. Our December makeover model reached out to us with the following email: Here's why I think I need a makeover... KIDS! Seriously, because I'm so wrapped up with them all the time, I don't do or buy much for myself. It's all about them. Most days I don't wear makeup, don't do my hair, and don't wear anything except jean shorts. I had said to my husband, this fall I'd like to work more with my business...so that's what I'm hoping to do. More wreaths, vinyl decals, and I'm hoping to get an embroidery machine! I think it's time to work on me for a change, set some goals, and live happier! -Amy Schell 11 years ago, Amy became a widow when her husband Jerry Beckmeyer, (a JSO police officer) was killed in a motorcycle accident. At the time, Amy was pregnant with her daughter and started creating wreaths to keep her mind occupied. This hobby evolved into her own small business, “Hanging With Wreaths” which has a page that can be found on Facebook. Amy is now remarried to her husband Steve, and has two children, Kyle and Lexi. Going on ten years married, and raising her two children has had Amy feeling stuck. Blah. Mundane. Her day to day cycle has been laundry. Kids. Repeat. Laundry. Kids. Repeat. She confesses to losing sight of making herself a priority too.

After Your "In Style Team" Took Over Amy claims we may have created a monster. A style monster that is! Before her makeover she lived in flip flops and ponytails. She now does her hair. Which by the way, her friends are obsessed with the depth and lowlights that compliment Amy’s eyes and skin. Mrs. Schell is also becoming a frequent
Sparkle in Style with Nikki-Lyn Holm flyer at the Pink Nickel. She is suddenly addicted to jewelry too. I know all too well, how easily that can happen. Amy is really excited about hosting her own style show next month, where she will earn tons of free bling! What I loved most about watching Amy evolve with this confidence booster, is her gratitude and takeaway. In the beginning of this project, Amy was VERY nervous to change her hair color. Even her comfortable “go to”clothes. Today, this is what Amy has to say: “I realized it’s okay to step out of your comfort zone….It’s JUST hair. Or an outfit. Whatever we do to enhance ourselves, doesn’t alter who we are. Exterior choices can be temporary. However, making these changes can made a BIG difference in who we think we are, and who we want to be.” This makeover has inspired Amy with a new vision for her 2018. She will create more business opportunities, and remember she is still a rockin’ woman: An entrepreneur. A friend. A wife. AND, of course a dedicated mother too! She can wear all of these hats with heels, accessories, and confidence while she “Sparkles In Style!”

Lighten It Up!
Healthy Holiday Tips Nancy Cohen RDN, LDN Nutritionist
Everyone wants to have their cake and eat it too, but when it comes to Thanksgiving Desserts, Christmas cookies and celebration after celebration- weight gain and low energy are guaranteed. With a few simple tips and suggestions you can partake in all the fun of the holidays and stay on course with your eating plan too.
Healthy Holiday Recipe Substitutions and Eating Tips:
28
• Eat more PRODUCE. Serve, cook with and choose more vegetables in appetizers, soups, add them to your hoidayl meals- fill up on your veggies rather than the second serving of stuffing or sweet potato casserole. • Substitute low fat dairy products in dips and other recipes for high fat ones- Use greek yogurt or yogurt in place of mayo or sour cream in recipes. Replace cream with milk or another milk alternative such as coconut, almond, soy or cashew milk. • Reduce the number of eggs in a recipe. Replace one whole egg with two whites in baking. • Use applesauce in place of oil in baking 1 cup= 1 cup in the substitution process and saves hundreds of fat calories. • Substitute lean meats, ground chicken or turkey for high fat beef or sausage in recipes. • Bake instead of frying your recipes. • Substitute more herbs and spices for salt and seasoned salts and oils in recipes.
• Reduce drinking by either serving or having more sparkling water with fruit or water as a beverage. The average cocktail is anywhere from 100-400 calories/4 ounce serving. • Rather than basting with butter, use broth, water or wine in cooking. • Instead of high fat bacon in recipes consider using Canadian bacon, turkey bacon or turkey sausage. The most important part of the holidays is being with family and friends- celebrating community and being grateful for our good health and our many blessings. Enjoy your holidays with style, good taste and great health. Blessings to you, Nancy Cohen RDN LDN Nutritionist, www.feedingthebodyfeedingthesoul.com | Serving St Johns, St. Augustine,Jacksonville and Nationwide

With Dr. Kathleen Deckard, DVM Pets R Family Veterinary Hospital
A Message From The Vet
10 Ways to Show Your Pet Holiday Love
1. Make a sweet treat. Pets love to have a new and interesting homemade treat. Many of our pets stare at us while we are baking in the kitchen just hoping that you will share or drop something. Surprise them with a treat that you can share! Here is a great holiday recipe for dogs: 2. Schedule some extra play time. Your dog or cat will love that individual playtime scheduled with you or consider a play date with a friend. You can also drop your pet off for some fun group play at a local veterinary hospital or other facility. 3. Purchase a new holiday themed collar. Your pet will feel that holiday spirit if they are dressed in holiday themed attire. You can also use this time to check your pet’s identification to make sure it is present and up to date. 4. Schedule holiday family photos including your pets. Your pets will feel part of the family when they are included in your holiday photos. 5. Make a homemade toy. You can
put your sewing skills to the test and create a fun toy. You can also use a sock wrapped around an empty water bottle for your dog or some catnip in a baby sock for your feline friend. 6. Create memorabilia. Put together a collage of your favorite pet photos to hang on the wall. You can also create artwork that captures your pets’ paw prints with pet safe ink or paint. 7. Buy your pet a unique gift. What better way to show your love and to have some fun than to do some shopping. There are always new and creative gifts for pets available. 8. Set up a spa day for your pet. Your pet will look, feel and smell fabulous if you set up a spa day to have a luxurious or deshedding bath, haircut and pedicure. Your pet will thank you for it! 9. Give each pet their own unique stocking. Pick a stocking that suits them as an individual. 10. Make or purchase an ornament for each pet.
