A MULTIFACETED APPROACH TO WELLNESS IN 2025
AT GOOD MENTAL HEALTH LLC BY DIANA BRUMMER As the new year begins, many of us are seeking ways to create a healthier, more balanced life. Whether prioritizing physical fitness, finding emotional stability, or healing from past experiences, the journey to wellness often requires a multifaceted approach. At Good Mental Health (GMH), we understand that true wellness goes beyond the surface, and we are here to support you every step of the way. Our trauma-informed approach to wellness combines the transformative power of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, yoga, and personalized coaching. These three modalities work together to address the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit, creating a safe and empowering space for healing and growth.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Resilience
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is more than a martial art; it’s a mental and emotional growth practice. Our trauma-informed BJJ classes are designed to meet you where you are and provide a safe, supportive space where you can build resilience, confidence, and self-discipline. BJJ challenges you to stay calm and focused, even in uncomfortable situations, fostering the ability to navigate stress with composure. For those who have experienced trauma, it offers a unique opportunity to process emotions in a secure environment while developing strength that extends far beyond the mat.
Yoga for Balance and Mindfulness
Yoga nurtures the connection between the body and mind. Our traumainformed yoga sessions emphasize mindfulness, grounding, and gentle movement, making yoga accessible to individuals of all backgrounds and abilities. Whether you’re looking to release tension, improve flexibility, or simply find a moment of peace, our classes provide the tools to help you cultivate inner harmony and balance.
One-on-One Coaching for Personalized Growth
Everyone’s journey to wellness is unique, so we offer personalized coaching. These sessions are tailored to your specific needs, whether you’re working through trauma, setting personal goals, or striving for a healthier lifestyle. Our coaching sessions empower you to take charge of your life and move forward purposefully. At GMH, our mission is to help you start the year strong by providing a comprehensive and trauma-informed approach to wellness. Let 2025 be the year you take the first step towards a brighter future. Good Mental Health is a counseling and coaching practice based in St. Johns, Florida. It offers individual, couples, and family counseling to adolescents and adults. Sessions are available face-to-face and online. We hope to provide the tools and skills necessary to heal past wounds, grow healthy relationships, and build stronger families. WINTER GETAWAYS MADE EASY:
Explore Riviera Maya by Vanessa Kromer Luxury Travel Adviser theelegantexplorers.com
J
anuary is here, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to escape the winter chill. For North Florida residents, the Riviera Maya offers an unbeatable mix of tropical warmth, cultural wonders, and luxurious all-inclusive resorts. With convenient nonstop flights from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Cancún, planning your getaway is as easy as ever. Whether you’re looking for a last-minute winter escape, spring break getaway, or summer vacation, the Riviera Maya is the ideal destination.
Sun-Kissed Beaches and Luxe Resorts Riviera Maya is famous for its pristine beaches and turquoise waters, but the region’s all-inclusive resorts elevate any visit to a true luxury experience. Here are some of my favorite properties to consider for your 2025 travels:
Adults-Only Luxury: Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya is a haven for couples seeking romance, privacy, and exceptional dining. Located on Akumal Bay, it offers a serene atmosphere with endless opportunities for snorkeling with sea turtles.
Boutique Elegance: UNICO 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya is perfect for adults wanting a modern, cultural twist on all-inclusive luxury. From locally inspired decor to curated excursions and spa treatments, every detail is elevated.
Family-Friendly Excellence: Grand Velas Riviera Maya is the ultimate family-friendly luxury retreat. With spacious suites, gourmet dining, and a dedicated kids’ club, it ensures fun for all ages while maintaining a sense of indulgence. Adventure and Relaxation: Xcaret Hotel Arte (adults-only) and Hotel Xcaret Mexico (family-friendly) seamlessly blend luxury with adventure, offering access to the famous Xcaret parks, private beaches, and exceptional service. 8
Cultural and Historical Adventures While lounging at a stunning resort is tempting, the Riviera Maya’s cultural treasures are not to be missed. Explore Tulum’s cliffside Mayan ruins, climb the pyramid at Coba, or take a day trip to the iconic Chichen Itza.
Cenote Diving and Wellness Retreats The region is dotted with cenotes, natural freshwater sinkholes perfect for snorkeling or swimming. Cenote Dos Ojos and Gran Cenote offer unforgettable experiences. Meanwhile, wellness retreats at resorts like Grand Velas and UNICO focus on Mayan-inspired treatments and hydrotherapy for ultimate relaxation.
Plan Now for Spring & Summer While the Riviera Maya is an excellent choice for a last-minute winter trip, spring break and summer vacations are equally magical. Booking now secures the best accommodations and ensures a stress-free experience. Whether you’re looking for romance, family fun, or wellness, the Riviera Maya promises sun, culture, and relaxation, all just a quick flight away.

SPRING FASHION
UNIQUELY CLAUDIA
Looks available at the store this Spring!
SPRING 2025 FASHION TRENDS YOU'LL WANT TO EMBRACE by Claudia Maya, Owner of Uniquely Claudia
Spring 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting season for fashion, blending timeless classics with modern twists that encourage individuality and creativity. From bold silhouettes to floral prints, this year’s trends offer something for everyone. Let’s explore some of the must-have looks for the season, including some favorites you’ll see at Uniquely Claudia Boutique.
1. Asymmetrical Skirts Say goodbye to traditional hemlines—this spring, asymmetry is taking over! Asymmetrical skirts with uneven cuts, cascading layers, and daring slits are making a statement. These skirts bring movement and drama to any outfit, making them perfect for casual days or evening events. Pair with a simple top and heeled sandals for a chic, effortless look.
2. Floral Prints in Bloom Florals remain a springtime staple, but in 2025, they’re getting a fresh update with oversized patterns, abstract designs, and bold color combinations. Whether you prefer dainty blooms or artistic interpretations, florals will dominate dresses, blouses, and even accessories. At Uniquely Claudia, our floral pieces are designed to balance femininity with sophistication, perfect for welcoming the season.
3. Layers on Layers on Layers Layering is more than just practical—it’s a defining trend for spring 2025. Think lightweight knits over flowy dresses, oversized blazers paired with tank tops, or sheer shirts layered with corsets or bralettes. The art of layering allows you to create depth and dimension in your outfits while adapting to unpredictable spring weather.
4. High-volume Miniskirts Miniskirts are taking a bold turn this spring with voluminous silhouettes
10
that make a playful statement. Tulle, pleats, and structured fabrics add drama and fun to this otherwise simple piece. Pair them with fitted tops or cropped jackets to balance the look and let the skirt shine.
5. All-White Ensembles Clean, crisp, and endlessly chic, all-white outfits are making a big impact this spring. From tailored suits to breezy maxi dresses, monochromatic white ensembles exude elegance and simplicity. Add texture with lace, crochet, or sheer layers to keep the look fresh and interesting.
6. Demure Details The demure aesthetic is having a moment, with high necklines, modest hemlines, and delicate details like lace, ruffles, and subtle embroidery taking center stage. These understated pieces bring a romantic-inspired charm to spring wardrobes. Our boutique is embracing this trend with soft, feminine styles that feel timeless yet modern.
7. Polka Dots Mark the Spot Polka dots are making a playful comeback in spring 2025, adding a retro vibe to skirts, blouses, and dresses. Whether bold and oversized or tiny and subtle, this print is perfect for adding a touch of whimsy to your wardrobe. Pair polka-dot pieces with solid colors to keep the look balanced and sophisticated. Spring 2025 is all about experimenting with silhouettes, prints, and layering techniques that reflect your personal style. At Uniquely Claudia Boutique, we’re excited to bring these trends to life with a curated collection designed to help you transition into the season with elegance and confidence. So be on the lookout starting February—you’ll find styles that embrace these trends while staying uniquely you!

#2025 Goals
10 fitness resolutions more likely to stick: 4. Find an Exercise Buddy:
1. Start Small & Gradual:
Don't overhaul your entire lifestyle overnight. Begin with one small, achievable change, like adding a 15-minute walk to your daily routine.
Having a workout partner can provide motivation, accountability, and make exercise more enjoyable.
5. Focus on Progress, Not Weight:
2. Find an Activity You Enjoy:
Exercise shouldn't feel like a chore. Experiment with different activities (dancing, swimming, hiking) until you find something you genuinely look forward to.
Weight can fluctuate for various reasons. Celebrate non-scale victories like increased energy, improved mood, and better sleep.
6. Listen to Your Body:
3. Set Realistic Goals:
Aim for progress, not perfection. Focus on building sustainable habits rather than drastic, short-term changes.
Rest and recovery are crucial. Don't push yourself too hard, especially when starting.
7. Make it Convenient:
3. Schedule Your Workouts:
Treat your workouts like important appointments. Block off time in your calendar and stick to it as much as possible. .
Keep workout gear readily available and choose activities that are easily accessible.
8. Reward Yourself (Non-Food Related):
Celebrate milestones with non-food rewards like a new workout outfit, a massage, or a relaxing bath.
9. Be Patient and Persistent:
Building healthy habits takes time. Don't get discouraged by setbacks. Learn from them and keep moving forward.
10. Remember, consistency is key.
Small, consistent efforts will lead to lasting results.

YMCA
The Most Important Points
How Sports Play a Key Role in Youth Development By: Candace Burrows, Vice President of Programs, First Coast YMCA
Every kid who has ever played organized team sports can probably remember the first time they ever received a jersey. It had their handpicked number on it, and it was a tangible connection to something bigger than themselves. For many kids, that first jersey was from the YMCA, and we know how important sports are to kids and their families, especially here in St. Johns County. We also know that sports can shape kids’ character and development, which is why we’re taking a fresh look at sportsmanship as part of our youth sports programming throughout the First Coast. There are three core areas our entire association focuses on, and youth development is one of them. We pursue opportunities to instill critical values at a young age and we take that responsibility seriously. A team atmosphere is one of the most unique “classrooms” that exists for a child and the chance to work together towards a shared goal is a universal opportunity we cherish. How each child develops is unique, which is why we offer a variety of sports at a range of skill levels. Beyond legacy sports like soccer, basketball, and football, we also have opportunities in gymnastics, esports, tennis, and more. We don’t want participation in sports to be something just to pass the time; we really want to invest in kids to help them live healthy lives and embrace concepts like sportsmanship, teamwork, communication and more. We witness transformation in kids every day, some of whom may start off as shy or timid but by the end of the season are having a great time and making friends. Stories like that are why we come to work every day. As kids continue to physically progress year after year in the program, so too will those social and character development traits. Our revamped youth sports program doesn’t just focus on the kids, though. Parents obviously play a critical role in developing their children,
16
which includes how they interact with them at practices and games. We want to foster an encouraging atmosphere that helps kids grow and by embodying the very ideals we’re attempting to teach them like respect, kindness, and fun, parents can play an important role in making that happen. It does take a collective village to raise a child, and a nurturing sports environment can be one of the best places parents, coaches, and kids can come together to achieve that. If you’ve ever thought about signing up your child for youth sports but haven’t done it yet, come by our branch. Talk to our youth sports staff and they can tell you personally the impact these programs can have on kids. It’s not about how many goals or points a child scores – it’s about their development alongside their peers. We’d love for you to not only see that progress for yourself, but to play an integral role in nurturing it. For more information on youth sports at the First Coast YMCA, please visit fcymca.org/youth_sports or call one of our branches today.

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS FOR PET OWNERS Start 2025 Off Right!
As we usher in the New Year, it’s time to reflect on resolutions that can improve not just our lives but also the lives of our furry family members. Pets rely on us for their health, happiness, and well-being. Making a few pet-focused resolutions can ensure that 2025 is a healthy, happy year for your beloved companions.
1. Ensure Your Pet’s Microchip Is Registered and Updated If your pet has a microchip, now is the perfect time to verify that the information on file is current. Log into the microchip registry and double-check your contact details. If your pet isn’t microchipped, consider making it a priority this year. A microchip is a simple, effective way to increase the chances of being reunited if your pet becomes lost.
2. Stay on Top of Vaccines and Preventatives Ensure that your pet is up to date on their vaccinations and heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. These protections are essential year-round and can save your pet from potentially life-threatening illnesses. Add reminders to your calendar or set up automatic refill services to never miss a dose.
3. Schedule Routine Check-Ups and Screening Lab Work Annual veterinary visits are crucial for detecting potential health issues early. If your pet hasn’t had recent bloodwork, consider scheduling screening labs. These tests can provide a comprehensive view of their internal
health, detecting early signs of conditions like kidney disease, diabetes, or liver issues before symptoms arise.
4. Get Active Together Exercise is vital for both pets and humans. Plan regular walks, playtime, or even agility training to keep your pet physically fit and mentally stimulated. Exercise not only helps manage your pet’s weight but also strengthens the bond you share. For cats, interactive toys or laser pointers can provide great indoor exercise.
5. Address Weight Management If your pet is carrying a few extra pounds, now is the time to work on weight loss. Obesity can lead to serious health problems, including joint issues, diabetes, and heart disease. Consult with your veterinarian to create a tailored diet and exercise plan. Small changes, like switching to a low-calorie food or reducing treat portions, can make a big difference.
6. Prepare and Organize Your Pet’s Records Having a copy of your pet’s medical records on hand is invaluable in emergencies or when traveling. Whether digital or physical, ensure records include vaccination history, medication lists, and any chronic health conditions. Many veterinary clinics can provide a copy upon request or offer access to a patient portal.
7. Schedule Needed Procedures
or surgery? Don’t delay—get it scheduled. Dental health is often overlooked but is essential for overall well-being. Untreated dental issues can lead to pain, infections, or organ damage. The New Year is the perfect time to prioritize these important procedures.
8. Prioritize Mental Stimulation and Enrichment Pets need mental exercise, too. Invest in puzzle toys, training classes, or new games to keep their minds sharp. For dogs, try teaching new tricks or commands. For cats, consider adding a window perch or a new scratching post to enhance their environment.
9. Prepare for Emergencies Double-check that you have an emergency kit ready for your pet. This should include food, water, a leash, medications, and a copy of medical records. Planning ahead can make a big difference in case of unexpected events.
10. Consider Pet Insurance If you haven’t already, research pet insurance options. Insurance can provide peace of mind and financial support in case of accidents or illnesses. Evaluate policies based on your pet’s age, breed, and specific needs. By incorporating these resolutions into your routine, you’ll be setting your pet up for a happy, healthy year ahead. Let’s make 2025 the best year yet for you and your furry family members!
