Connecting the Growing Communities of Northern St. Johns since 2012
May 2021 Dear Neighbor, A friend of mine recently had a baby girl and it has been a joy to see posts of her happy, joyful face, so innocent and beautiful. Then I look at my daughters, Shainna and Lexi, who are turning eighteen this month and I wonder how so much time has passed. How did they transform from babies who needed me to amazing, independent young women with busy lives and adventures awaiting them that may not include me? People always say, before you know it they will grow up, so enjoy every minute. Sigh - that is the truth. I am excited for them but I am also finding it tough to say good-bye to a chapter in their life that defined me in so many ways. Motherhood, that queen of archetypes. When our children come into our lives we are forever changed by them. With my children, I learned long ago that they are my teachers as much as I

am theirs and that doing the best I can to guide and support them on their journey is all I can do. Sure, we make mistakes (we are only human after all) but hopefully we have given them the foundation they need, and find ourselves better people in the long run. This month’s feature article is about Dr. Linda Quinn, a local physician who focuses on women’s health in a modern way that incorporates the mind-body connection, regenerative medicine and hormone balance. We also have an article about motherhood from a mental health perspective, and lot’s of ideas for gifts for Mom in these pages. I am excited to say our calendar is back. After over a year of dwindling events, and pandemic related cancelations, it seems that the world and St. Johns is awakening again! So check out our calendar in print and online. We are also running a photo contest this month for Moms of St. Johns. All you have to do is submit your photo to our facebook along with your email and you could win a one-hour massage at Massage Green JCP in a random drawing. Doesn't every Mom love a massage? Thank you to our contributors and please let our sponsors know you found them here! Have a wonderful month and a Happy Mother’s Day to all the St. Johns Moms!

L.A. QUINN, M.D.
A Unique Medical Practice Focusing on Optimal Health & Flawless Beauty As women, it is our birthright to be radiant. The body is an incredible structure that, if we listen properly, tells us what it needs, and especially what it doesn’t. Rather than simply covering up symptoms with prescriptions, I believe in finding the root of the problem by getting to know my patients and working alongside them in order to identify what imbalances are creating illness, pain and discomfort. - Linda Quinn, M.D.
D
r. Quinn is a mother, healer, teacher, woman advocate and unbound believer in the mind-body power to accomplish whatever your heart desires.
A single mother of four daughters who are living beautiful lives on their own terms, Dr. Quinn’s mission and commitment are to be a catalyst to empower her patients to do the same. That means welcoming the choice to put self-care at the top of their priority lists, perhaps for the first time in their lives. Patients value the results they welcome. And most importantly, they treasure the way Dr. Quinn makes them feel by how she treats them. Perceptive, compassionate, and intuitive, Dr. Quinn sees the real you even if

you can’t. And she sees the possibilities to create powerful transformation at the moment so you can imagine new possibilities for yourself. Dr. Quinn has been in love with all things beautiful, colorful, and aligned for a lifetime. And she knows that there is so much more to embrace to create a vibrant, healthy, beautiful life from the inside out. When she is not practicing medicine, she is practicing yoga and meditation. She is the walking-talking poster child for what it is to be a woman in mid-life or better who is loving the impact she makes for clients, one important, transformational treatment at a time.
L.A. Quinn M.D. is founded by certified ACOG, American Academy of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine physician Dr. Linda Quinn, M.D., FAARM, ABBARM. Over the years, Dr. Quinn has taken a multi-layer approach to provide patients with optimal health and flawless beauty. Specializing in regenerative medicine and cosmetic procedures, Dr. Quinn combines science and beauty to create miraculous results. Everyone has the desire to look and feel younger, and at L.A. Quinn M.D., it's never been easier. With innovative procedures, including Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) therapy, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, and EuroThreads Lifting, your body does all of the hard work for you. "I've always sought-after natural alternatives to aesthetic and anti-aging procedures whenever possible," explained Dr. Quinn. "It's an ongoing passion of mine to provide patients with a variety of options that, when coupled with the power of their bodies, help to halt and reverse the aging process." L.A. Quinn M.D. has recently introduced Euro Face, Neck, and Body Thread Lifting and volumizing to their list of services. The innovative procedure activates collagen growth. Time is seemingly reversed, leaving behind little to no scarring, instant results, and no downtime for those looking to achieve a firm, sculpted appearance. EuroThreads places resorbable surgical sutures below the skin, which will be fully absorbed in four to six months, leaving behind zero scar tissue. The threads help tighten and replace lost volume, providing patients with a sculpted and youthful appearance in various areas, including the face, neck, and body, such as abdomen, knees, and arms. Results can be seen immediately and will continue to improve over the next several months as new collagen growth is stimulated underneath the skin. The results reset the clock and can last up to 2 years or more, depending on the patient's skin, health, age, and overall lifestyle. L.A. Quinn M.D. also offers natural facelifts using PRF and PRP therapy for patients seeking a natural approach to radiant, glowing skin. PRF Natural Face Lift procedure is best for those struggling with
age spots, wrinkles, and fine lines. The PRF facelift procedure creates filler from your body's plasma to achieve both volume and silkier skin. By stimulating collagen and elastin production, PRF thickens and tightens thinning skin while effectively smoothing wrinkles and fine lines and targeting dark circles and skin spots to create a more youthful appearance over time. PRF's effects are long-lasting, providing noticeable results for up to two years. PRP and its components are the body's primary defense in the repair and healing process, helping restore, enhance, and rejuvenate the body. During PRP therapy, these cells are directed to troublesome areas, encouraging the body to repair physical ailments that typically don't respond to traditional methods. Platelet Rich Plasma therapy has become increasingly popular. It is used to treat various conditions, including hair loss, facial rejuvenation, acne scars, stretch marks, tendonitis, joint pain, and more. "The body is an incredible structure," explained Dr. Quinn. "Using our own body in conjunction with these procedures is a natural alternative to achieve firmer, radiant, and more youthful results." As a mother of four daughters, and expert in anti-aging medicine, Dr. Quinn has spent over fifteen years perfecting her practice to provide patients with a plan tailored to their specific needs. She is a catalyst to empower her patients to create powerful transformation and live their lives as the best version of themselves. Perceptive, compassionate, and intuitive, Dr. Quinn sees the real you even if you can't. L.A. Quinn M.D. specializes in regenerative medicine and hormone balance, including laser therapies, micro-needling, fillers, PRP Treatments, hair regrowth therapies, stem cell therapies, Kundalini Yoga, meditation, and more. Simple Landscaping Ideas to improve curb appeal by Aquascapes by Eden It’s that time of year, in which many homeowners are working towards improving the look and functionality of their yards. We are often asked what should we work on first? Our suggestions always include starting with the basics to enhance curb appeal and creating a lush and beautiful outdoor space.
Importance of Mulch
Feeding and Watering
Placing new mulch in your garden beds is a quick and easy way to enhance the look of your home. But it also serves an important function to your flower beds! As mulch starts to decompose, it allows important nutrients to go to the roots of your plants! It also helps to keep the roots moist and cool on hot Florida days. Some homeowners prefer to place rock in their garden beds. Although this can look appealing, it often harms the plants as it dries up the roots and does not hold moisture.
Another important item to complete every 3-4 months is feeding your plants! Providing your plants and trees with some fertilizer will help them grow and flourish throughout the year. When watering your plants, we suggest watering trees and shrubs everyday, and ensuring all flowers receive a one minute shower to keep the roots wet.
Weeding
the look of your garden. You can also cut back overgrown plants and trees for a fresh look.
Plant Location
Another thing to consider is plant placement in your yard. Make sure you pick the right plants for the right place! Some plants love full sun, while others only require partial sun. Placing plants in the correct location will determine their longevity and adaption to your overall yard design.
We recommend weeding your garden beds as needed. This instantly improves

Bathroom Redesign by Florida Design Works Jax
When we speak of a room that has “classic design” we immediately think of interior decorating that is instantly recognizable, provokes a variety of different emotional reactions such as nostalgia, and is referred to as iconic. This bathroom designed for a home in Ponte Vedra is the pure definition of classic design. With a backdrop of hues of white, this bathroom will stand the test of time. But white doesn’t have to be boring. Let’s look at the four key ingredients to this bathroom that make using “white” – fun! First, the floor. Every great room starts with a statement floor and this bathroom is no different. Featuring an interlocking basket weave floor from AKDO, the various shades of white make the room feel balanced. Second, the shower walls. This Interceramic seaside white 3” x 12” gloss tile could be defined as “subway tile” but it is so much more. Using a matching white grout, the tile climbs the wall and fades into the background – where we then seen our third pop of white and interest – the shower accent featuring a storage nook using a MiR Mosaic Coronado Beach natural shell tile. When the light shines on the shower, the accent wall does exactly what it is supposed to – it grabs your attention and makes you say “wow”.
The Florida Design Works team loves to show homeowners how

using white tile, flooring and countertops can make any room an instant classic. And the bonus: white gives you more color freedom in a space – allowing you to add pops of your other favorite colors or textures without the stress of trying to match.

A Message From The Vet by Dr. Deckard, DVM, Pets R Family
THE IMPORTANCE OF
Micr0chipping YOUR PET
Every year, there are hundreds of pets that are lost and never found. Unfortunately, collars and ID tags can break or fall off, causing your pet to be considered one of the countless strays at animal shelters. Reuniting an unidentified pet with their owner is a rare occurrence under those circumstances. Some of these pets wind up with new owners, and some are unfortunately euthanized. It’s heartbreaking and tragic, and it can be easily prevented with the use of microchips! Microchips are tiny, implantable computer chips that contain a unique identification number that can be traced back to you if your pet is lost. They are about the size of a grain of rice, and they are placed just under the skin with a needle and syringe during a simple, quick procedure- much like giving a vaccine. They work by receiving radio signals from a scanner and transmitting the identification number back to the scanner. Each chip has its own number or code unique to your pet and is stored in a national registration database. Most places nowadays use one type of chip: an ISO chip. This type of chip is considered global/universal, and can be read by scanners in other countries, which is important for people who travel. Shelters, rescues, veterinary practices, veterinary emergency hospitals, and other facilities that see stray animals always check for a microchip if a pet is found and brought to them.
If the pet has a chip, the database is contacted and the information about the owner is given to the authorized user after a few security questions are answered. Most of the time this results in a reunion, but sometimes we find that the chip is unregistered, and it can be very difficult to trace to an owner in that case. It is imperative that when your pet is chipped that you complete your registration, and don’t forget to update your info if you move or change phone numbers. The more information you can provide on your registration, the better. If you do not register your chip, when the pet is scanned it will trace back to where the chip was placed, but for some places like shelters, it can be difficult to find any info beyond that. When you adopt your pet or have a chip implanted at your vet, you will be provided with the information needed to register them. One thing that is frequently misunderstood is that a microchip does not provide GPS capability; a lost pet must be scanned for you to be contacted. It’s undisputed how important it is to microchip your pet, as they have reunited thousands of lost pets with their owners! If your pet is not chipped, please ask your veterinarian about getting it done as soon as you are able. Hopefully your pet will never get lost, but if they have a microchip, you are giving yourself and your pet the best chance for a quick and happy reunion! www.stjohnsmag.com
