FOOD & FUN
There are few things life as fun as dinner out with friends! It was not surprising that St. Augustine was recently voted # 1 in Southern Living’s Best Food Towns. We completely agree! Food is an essential aspect of celebrating the good life in Northern St. Johns. Right here in our area and a short drive down to St. Augustine, we have so many talented chefs at local restaurants and so many options of truly good food, we are a little spoiled! To celebrate this honor we have our own curated list of great places to eat in St. Johns and St. Augustine. Our featured businesses this month are Pineapple Creative Boutique and Bravoz Entertainment Center. Husband and wife team Laura and David Zorn invite readers to get to know all about their businesses, each offering great ways to enjoy your free time and have fun! There is so much to be thankful for in life, and friendship, good food and having fun are among the best! I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! I would like to extend a special thank you to all our contributors for providing inspiring local content. Please be sure to check out our advertisers, and let them know you have seen them in St. Johns Magazine! They make this magazine possible!

Laura & David
Zorn
Owners of Pineapple Creative Boutique & Bravoz Entertainment Center!
L
aura and David Zorn juggle ownership of two local businesses and three teenagers
between them. Laura’s venture, Pineapple
Creative Boutique opened in June of 2018, while
the couple has jointly owned Bravoz Entertainment
Center since 2012. Its a lot to handle but they seem to do it all with style and ease.
“Our lives are hectic! It definitely takes a team
effort to keep both businesses and our household
running - there aren’t always enough hours in the
day, but we do our best to make sure everything is running as smoothly as possible,” says Laura.
The Zorns are residents of Nocatee where they live with their children, John, Natalie and Cooper, and their sweet family dog Athena. The couple have known each other practically their entire lives as their families were close friends through school and church. When they met up later at the University of North Florida, it blossomed into love and they haven’t looked back since getting married in 1996.
Pineapple Creative Boutique
After learning about Laura and David, it is clear why Pineapple Creative Boutique & Bravoz Entertainment are successful local business - their positive energy and passion is an inspiration.
friends. Projects could be anything from
Pineapple Creative Boutique has an array of beautiful items.
8
Pineapple Creative Boutique, a DIY project studio and gift boutique offers a unique concept as a place to shop, gather with
friends & create. Projects are customized to
the individual, and people have the option of coming in on their own, joining a scheduled workshop, or booking a private party with board art, entryway signs, name signs to
planters, wine caddies and placemats. The atmosphere is laid back and there is an
abundance of southern hospitality. Just
imagine how enjoyable it is to sip wine and work on your project as a time-out alone or with a group of friends.
For more info visit bravoz.com
The idea to start Pineapple Creative Boutique began with Laura’s desire to find a local creative outlet. Even though she is not trained as an artist, she loves design, has a great sense of color and has a passion for interior decor. “I love to give gifts - especially personalized ones- and found the offerings in the south Jacksonville area to be limited. The trip to St. Johns Town Center was time-consuming, so I wanted to open a boutique that offered people a different type of experience, in a local neighborhood.” A project studio was the perfect fit for Laura whose favorite aspect of owning Pineapple is getting to know the customers! “Most projects take around 2 hours to complete, so we love the opportunity to get to know our customers so many are now friends!” she says.
Bravoz Entertainment Bravoz is an amazing play and adventure center for families looking to have fun. David and Laura opened Jacksonville’s first trampoline arena in September of 2012. “We saw the opportunity to provide the Jacksonville community with a fun, healthy, indoor activity space that could be enjoyed by
all ages. Over the years we have expanded our facility to offer more attractions, food and beverage options to better serve our customers,” said David. In 2018 they decided to dissolve their relationship with the Rebounderz franchise and created the new brand “Bravoz”. The name Bravoz is intended to convey a positive, happy, fun place where nothing but good times are had. The creative name merges the energy of “bravo” with the Z - as in Zorn, giving it their personal spin. This new “beginning” was an opportunity to improve the facility and operations, focusing on the customer's needs. They added even more attractions, food and beverage choices and package offerings, and sought to create partnerships with other local businesses. “Hopefully, our customers will enjoy a better customer experience,” said David. Today Bravoz has a huge indoor trampoline arena, laser tag, wall climbing, mini-bowling, refreshments and more. Its the perfect place to go with friends or family to let loose, unwind, and have fun!
Laura and David realize how blessed they are to own a business that offers fun and good times to people. They shared a story about a grandmother who came in to Bravoz one afternoon with her two granddaughters. She explained that their father was being taken off life support that night and she was there to arrange for them to come to Bravoz the next day so they could "escape their sadness”. “It meant the world to us that she felt our little business was what they would need to help at such a difficult time. It was at that moment that we knew why we were there to really help bring fun and joy into people’s lives. We will never forget it,” said Laura. Over the years Bravoz has worked with many local organizations to help make a small difference in people’s lives. As David said, “From hosting fundraisers to granting wishes and helping facilitate adoptions, the thing we love the most about our business is how it allows us to give back to the community we live in and love”. In their free time, you may find Laura and David at the local beach with their family wakeboarding, tubing or hunting for shark teeth.
The Creative studio space has everything you need to make an amazing custom design. For more information about Pineapple Creative Boutique visit pineapplecreativejax. com

Microdermabrasion + Oxygen Facial Kristy Robinson Manager & Esthetician BodyBrite – St. Johns
Quick Facts Exfoliates dead skin cells & extracts impurities while simultaneously restoring moisture, leaving skin more supple & vibrant. Cleanses, exfoliates, extracts, hydrates and moisturizes the skin with a soothing “paintbrush” feel. Totally customizable treatments for any skin tone or type.
What is Microdermabrasion and Oxygen Facial?
M
icrodermabrasion and oxygen facials are a revitalizing facial treatment provided by our licensed estheticians. Treatments can be tailored to meet the needs of your specific skin conditions. Microdermabrasion removes dead skin cells through exfoliation, stimulates new skin, fades lines and scarring for a flawless brighter complexion. Powerful alone or as an add-on treatment. An oxygen facial is followed up by the microdermabrasion treatment to help enhance results and give an instant boost of hydration to the skin. Pressurized oxygen infused with hyaluronic acid & vitamin serums are pushed gently into the skin for optimal absorption. This instantly plumps, hydrates and reduces wrinkles for an ageless glamorous glow. Great as an add-on to any service, or on its own.
How is the treatment performed? During your initial consultation your esthetician will assess your skincare needs and determine which serums would best compliment your treatment. For instance, if you wish to brighten your skin tone your esthetician may recommend a brightening serum which is specifically formulated with Vitamin C and antioxidant blends to target dark spots and sun damage. Once your customized treatment plan is decided your relaxing microdermabrasion & oxygen treatment can begin. The patented diamond tip for microdermabrasion will exfoliate the top layer
12
of skin while simultaneously vacuuming up impurities from the pores. This procedure will leave the skin radiantly clean, refined pore size, and polished. The oxygen infusion blast from the oxygen facial will instantly plump fine lines and give the skin a moist subtle glow. The process is quick, painless and will have you back to your normal routine without any downtime.
How many treatments do I need? Many people report seeing visible skin improvement and an improved skin tone after just one treatment. The results may last 5 to 7 days or even longer. A series of 6 treatments 2 weeks apart are recommended for improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne or oily skin. After your first series of treatments, you may want to maintain your results with a microdermabrasion or oxygen facial treatments every 4 weeks.
What can I do at home to maintain my results? Our skin care professionals offer take home skin care regimens. These customized regimens are for your use at home as part of your daily skin care routine. We have a wide array of pharmaceutical grade skin care products to maintain your beautiful results. Enhancing skin care formulas include antioxidants, peptide complexes, retinol, vitamin C & E, and growth factor serums. Your esthetician can create a regimen for you and demonstrate how to properly take care of and improve your skin vitality.
Patients can immediately return to normal activities with ultra clean, radiant skin.
Is It Right for Me? Microdermabrasion and oxygen facials address all skincare needs and types, so everyone is a good candidate. Even the most sensitive skin easily tolerates these treatments. Your esthetician may choose specific serums and/or customize the treatment for your unique skin conditions and needs which may include: • Fine lines & Wrinkles • Elasticity & Firmness • Even Tone & Vibrancy • Skin Texture • Brown Spots • Oily & Congested Skin • Enlarged Pores • Dry Skin • Rosacea

An Attitude of Gratitude by
T
Diana Brummer MSW, LCSW Good Mental Health LLC he Thanksgiving holiday represents a celebration of gratitude in many different ways. Originally a celebration by the Pilgrims of their first harvest in the New
World, the traditional Thanksgiving meal represents a rejoicing for bountiful crops, family and friends with whom to share a feast, and recognition of the abundance in our lives. Although we may look forward to giving thanks over our turkey dinner and pumpkin pie every November, the benefit of practicing gratitude can be with us every day, all year long. It can be as formal as keeping a gratitude journal, intentionally recording the good in our lives before we go to sleep at night. It can be part of our spiritual practice, sending up prayers of thanks to the God of our understanding. It can be the practice of emailing or texting different people we meet, recognizing them for the help or support they have

Zwiebelkuchen
Recipe by Chef Jody Petronella at Coastal Wine Market & Tasting Room in Nocatee This Zwiebelkuchen is a bit of a hybrid of a few different traditional recipes I found. I’ve found recipes with both savory pie crust and a dough crust as I have used. Some traditional recipes also call for caraway seeds, which I have omitted and replaced with a bit of pumpkin pie spices. Many recipes also call for finely diced onions, rather than the thinly sliced onion I have used, which I feel lends a heartier texture.
INGREDIENTS 4 thick slices bacon, diced 4 cups peeled and sliced yellow onion 4 large eggs, beaten 1 cup sour cream 1 cup mild cheddar cheese 3 tablespoon flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1tsp pumpkin pie spice blend 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 pre stretched, refrigerated pizza dough (or make your own) OR-optionally- 1 (9-inch) pie shell, unbaked
DIRECTIONS
(Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.) • Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When cooked, remove with a slotted spoon to paper toweling. Drain most of the fat from the pan, leaving enough to cook the onions. • Add the onions to the pan and cook until soft and lightly browned. Set aside to cool. • Beat the eggs and sour cream together in a bowl • Slowly beat in the flour, bacon, onions and cheese. Add the salt, pepper and pumpkin spice blend and mix well. • Stretch the dough over a greased 9 inch spring form pan, pressing the dough evenly up the sides of the pan. • Spread the onion mixture into the pan. • Place the pie in the oven and bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees F. Reduce the heat to 350 degrees F and bake for 20 more minutes, or until the pie is set and nicely browned.
