GUANA TOLOMATO MATANZAS NATIONAL ESTUARINE RESEARCH RESERVE 505 Guana River Road, Ponte Vedra Beach Popularly known as Guana, this beach and reserve located between Ponte Vedra Beach and Vilano is perhaps the most pristine of any along our coast. FORT MATANZAS NATIONAL MONUMENT BEACH We prefer the area just south of the “official” beach access point, where we trek down the rocks and take in an incredibly expansive view. “Wow” is the word that best describes this beach that stretches out off the end of the southern tip of Anatasia Island, about a 10 minutes drive south of St. Augustine and just north of Marineland. It is a little windy but superior privacy, warm tidal pools, a jetty and rock formations make it an excellent adventure. One day last September while enjoying the beach my daughter found a baby sea turtle called a ‘washback’. We stayed with it without touching it until animal rescue came to help. That was a wonder to behold. There is also a great walking path, from the parking area that meanders down under the bridge along the intracoastal side and then hugs the coastline on the beach side. Facilities: Area offers vehicle access to the north only as of January 1, 2010, restrooms, off-beach parking, dune walkover, restrooms. Lifeguards are seasonal.

MICKLER’S BEACHFRONT PARK (MIKE-LER) Yes, yes. We know. Its called ‘Mike-ler’. Located at the South end of Ponte Vedra Beach on Highway A1A, this is a full service beach with restrooms and lifeguard. The only drawback is during the season it can get quite crowded so it is best to get their early or later in the day if you want parking and a premium spot to set up your beach umbrella. This beach has beautiful coquina sand (a little hard on the feet) and is somewhat narrow but it is has a great energy and is always filled with lots of families and surfers seem to like too.

ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH On Anastasia Island 4 miles south of downtown St. Augustine on Highway A1A Beach Blvd in the City of St. Augustine Beach. Surfer’s say the 10th Street entrance has the best waves. The beach offers lots of wide-open space to really have privacy or hang with the crowd if that suits your fancy. Or, if you are looking for even more action, the area near the pier or at the slpash park is usually filled with families. This beach offers fishing, picnicking, a splash park, a pavilion that can be rented out for special events, restrooms, picnic tables, showers, and a visitor center are available. Lifeguards are staffed seasonally.

VILANO BEACH & PORPOISE POINT If you do not feel like carrying all your beach stuff too far, this is one of our favorites because you simply drive your car up on the beach and unpack. Look across the Matanzas inlet from Porpoise Point and you will see the beaufitul city of St. Augustine. Porpoise Point was named for the frequent porpoise sightings in the past but nowadays you may only see some dolphins. With full services, including dune walkover, covered picnic tables, and showers. This is a popular spot for fishing and launching jet skis. Pavilion may be reserved. Lifeguards staffed seasonally.

ANASTASIA STATE PARK On Anastasia Island, at St. Augustine Inlet, 1 mile east of downtown St. Augustine and directly north of St. Augustine Beach at 340-A A1A South, St. Augustine. This park, beach and home of the St. Augustine Amphitheater provides a beautiful setting and is especially good for days when you want everything provided, from water sports, to food and beverages to life guard. Anastasia State Park is different because it is run by the state so your county beach pass just won’t do. A day pass is $8 per car. For more information, contact Anastasia State Park, (904) 461-2033.

Hello Smooth!

How to Change Your Life in About 3 Minutes!

I

happen to be Italian and with all the positives that come with my nationality one of the challenges is having, well, a little too much hair in places I wish were smooth. This year I decided to take action and do something about it before beach season so I could have the freedom to wear what I want and not feel self-conscious. I decided to go to Hello Smooth in Bartram Walk Plaza in Julington Creek where they specialize in laser hair removal. The studio is beautiful and relaxing, with modern decor and it is ultra clean. The Medical Manager and treatment provider, Pilar is a Certified Nurse Practitioner, which was reassuring to me. I decided to target the two most challenging areas for me personally. First, I was tired of shaving my underarms, something I have been doing since my teens. I wanted to be able to wear cute shirts without the five o’clock shadow effect on days when I had forgotten to shave! Second, I decided to do my bikini line. Like most women, that is a problem area because the skin is so delicate and it is usually irritated by shaving. Waxing is nice but it does not last long enough for me nor is it a permanent solution to getting rid of my hair. I wanted an easy summer. For both of my areas, I would need a series of treatments eight weeks apart. I was a little nervous because I was new to the world of laser hair removal. I am an information junkie and wondered about the details of how they do it. Pilar explained the process;”Laser Hair Removal is a quick and easy process for a permanent solution to getting rid of your unwanted hair. There are two types of lasers that are the gold standard for permanent hair removal, the Alexandrite Gentle Lase and the Ng Gentle Yag. Between these two lasers we are able to safely and effectively treat all skin types. Laser Hair Removal does take a series of treatments. The way this process works is that the laser is attracted to the melanin (color) in your hair and the laser beam delivers a quick pulse into the targeted hair follicles. A controlled amount of therapeutic heat safely and effectively travels to the capillary bed and destroys it. Each laser comes equipped with a patented Dynamic Cooling Device, which releases a quick burst of spray to cool the skin down after each laser pulse. The skin may be slightly red after a treatment but usually subsides within minutes. There is no down time after a treatment and treatments may take a few minutes up to an hour depending on the body area”. On the day of my consultation, I went to Hello Smooth and met with Leah, the Guest Relations Manager who thoroughly explained the laser hair removal process to me before my treatment. After my consultation, Pilar escorted me to the room to prepare me for my treatment. Pilar began the treatment using a gentle setting on the laser. I was surprised that the laser doesn’t hurt much at all, just a tiny pinch. The amazing thing is that each underarm takes about one minute to complete. I was on my way, with a total of about ten minutes spent at Hello Smooth! The time-factor is valuable to me as I am the mother of four and also run my own business. I knew I had to return in two months because Pilar had explained the hair growth cycles. According to Pilar there are three hair growth cycles. The most important phase of the hair growth cycle for laser hair removal is the Anagen phase. This is the growth phase in which the capillary bed is completely matured and the laser is then most effective in completely eliminating it. At each treatment the laser is able to eliminate 10-15% of the hair in the anagen phase. It takes about eight weeks for the anagen phase to occur and this is the reason you return for subsequent treatments every other month. After about two weeks, the hair was completely gone and it lasted a little over two months. When the hair did start to come back it was much less thick as Pilar promised. I had my second treatment and now a week later I am hair free again. After each treatment, all the hair falls out; this is called the shedding process. This can take up to 2 weeks. Once all the hair has fallen out, the area will be hair free for about 4-6 weeks. After this time has passed, a new anagen phase of the hair growth cycle occurs and you will then return for your next laser hair removal treatment. After each treatment, the hair will be noticeable finer, lighter and take longer to regrow until it is permanently gone. We did the same process with the bikini line just in time for my summer vacation! I absolutely love the total freedom of it. No more looking down to see if there is hair peeking out of my bathing suit or feeling self-conscious when I wear a sleeveless shirt. Thank you Hello Smooth! Pauline & Woody Cake Real Estate Market News by Sherry P. Davidson A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty -Unknown I picked this quote to honor all the great Fathers out there. I hope your Father’s Day was the best ever. The real estate market has improved every month in 2014.The numbers below are from the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors market stats report. January February March April May Pending Sales 1,840 1,909 2,193 2,347 2,467 Closed Sales 1,505 1,649 1,876 1,975 2,044 The median sales price and the average sales price are up 3.4% and 3.6% respectively year to date. The inventory of homes for sale is up slightly over last May by 1.1%. As we have been seeing recently, the lender-mediated homes for sale is down 32% and the traditional inventory is up 19%. Of the homes for sale at the end of May, 23.1% are lender-mediated compared to 34.4% last May. This is a very good trend. We are seeing a very interesting trend now with distressed or lender-mediated properties. The lenders on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac loans are pushing the properties into foreclosure rather than approving short sales for some reason. As a result, we list the properties as short sales and get an offer on the property. We submit the contract to the lender for approval as a short sale. The lenders are replying with counter offers that are above the market value of the properties and the buyers walk away.

Realtors® with Davidson Realty Inc. CDPE & CNE Woody’s Cell (904)669-0732 Pauline’s Cell: (904) 669-0975

Pauline’s E-Mail: pcake@davidsonrealtyinc.com www.davidsonrealtyinc.com/paulinecake • $11 Million Closed & $10 Million Sold in 2013 • Voted 5 Star Agents since 2004!

I looked at the Florida Realtors monthly distressed market report for April 2014 for single family homes in the Jacksonville MSA and saw that traditional closings were up 10% over the previous April, foreclosure closed sales were up 38% and short sale closings were down 55.5%. I looked at the statewide numbers and saw the same trend. It is not logical that the lenders would prefer to foreclose a property rather than work through a short sale. I spoke with David Heekin, Heekin Law, and he confirmed they are seeing the same trend. David is one of the most knowledgeable people in town working with short sales. I can’t offer an explanation, but if you are selling or trying to purchase a property through the short sale process with a Fannie or Freddie loan, you may be wasting your time. I believe we will continue to see strong sales throughout the summer. The days a property is on the market before an offer is accepted is down 5.6% from 89 days last May to 84 days. Please let me know if we can assist you in any way with your real estate needs.

Summer Guide

From Art Walk to the Beaches to Outdoor Concerts to Swamp Radio... We are full of ideas for FUN!! By Lisa Farese

School is out, and the temperature has heated up. Many of us are enjoying the long, sun-kissed days, which can only mean summer is back. Of course, between vacations and summer camps, this season can get expensive, so we’ve compiled a summer fun guide that will give you plenty of fun things to do as a family, or simply on date night, that won’t cost you a penny. So, grab your flip flops and head out on an adventure this summer! Enjoy Music Amid the Waves at the Music by the Sea Concert Series Grab your beach chair or blanket and head down to the St. Johns County Pier Park on Wednesday nights. Here you can enjoy the breezy summer nights to the tune of local bands. You can also grab a bite to eat from the featured local restaurant each week or bring your own picnic lunch. Food service starts at 6 p.m., and the concert starts at 7 p.m. New to the series this year are theme nights. July 30th will be Parrot Head Night and Sept. 24th will be Tie Dye Hippie Night. The series will commence for the season after the Sept. 24th concert. For more information, visit http://thecivicassociation.org/music_by_the_sea_summer_concerts.

Have a Blast with 4th of July Celebrations Join in the fun with the 4th of July celebration in downtown St. Augustine, which will begin at 6 p.m. with a performance by the All Star Orchestra. The fireworks display will follow and start at 9:30 p.m. and will be set off near Castillo de San Marcos in the Matanzas Bay. For more information, visit www.FireworksOverTheMatanzas.com. * Can’t get enough fireworks? The World Golf Hall of Fame will also be hosting a community fireworks display, and it will take place on July 3 from 5-10 p.m. at the World Golf Hall of Fame. Additional dinner and a movie packages are also available for a cost. For more information, visit http:// www.worldgolfhalloffame.org/visit-the-museum/events/.

Find Yourself Saying, “Shhh, No Boat Horns Please” at Movies by the Bay Did we mention your beach chair will come in handy this summer? Ripley’s St. Augustine Attractions and the St. Augustine Municipal Marina are hosting free movie screenings at the downtown Marina each Wednesday and Friday night at 8:30 p.m. for which you will, once again, need your beach chair. Wednesday nights will feature family friendly movies such as The Sandlot and Tangled, and Friday nights will feature classic movies such as Sleepless in Seattle and Fried Green Tomatoes. Movies will run through the week of Aug. 16. For more information, visit https://www. facebook.com/saintaugustineripleys/posts/456714524406081.

Get Upbeat at Uptown Saturday Night On the last Saturday of each month, head to the San Marco District where you will find antique and art galleries open late amid a festive atmosphere. Here you can enjoy live music and refreshments as you bob in and out of these unique galleries. Sponsored by the San Marco Avenue Merchants Association, the event takes place from 5-9 p.m. each month and spans the stretch from Ripleys to Mission of Nombre de Dios. For more information, visit http://www.floridashistoriccoast.com/listings/view/4008.

Enjoy Music in the Air at Concerts in the Plaza Head downtown on Thursday nights for a concert in the Plaza de la Constitución, which is the heart of downtown St. Augustine. These concerts start at 7 p.m., hosting a variety of music, and will take place each week until Labor Day. For more information, visit http://www.staugustinegovernment. com/the-city/featured-stories-archive/CitP14.cfm.

Enjoy a Sunset at Vilano Beach Town Center Let’s face it, there’s nothing quite like a sunset. Take in the beautiful sites of the setting sun at the Vilano Pier and also enjoy venders, music, arts, crafts and more at the Sunset Celebration at Vilano Beach Town Center on July 5 from 3 p.m. until dusk. For more information, visit www.vilanobeachfl. com.

Step Back in Time and Discover Downtown Historical Sites With history practically everywhere we turn, there’s no better place to take in Florida’s history than right here at home. Here are a few downtown sites that only require proof of residency: The Oldest House, the Ximenez-Fatio House, the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse, the Peña-Peck House, the Father Miguel O’Reilly House Museum and the Mission of Nombre de Dios Museum. Become a tourist without leaving home this summer.

Make a Splash at the St. Johns County Pier Complete with a beautiful view and a constant ocean breeze, the splash park at the St. Johns County Pier is a great place to take your family for a relaxing and refreshing day. Complete with covered benches and pavilions, you can enjoy a picnic lunch splash side. There’s also an adjacent playground and, of course, the beach just steps away. Stop in weekdays from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The exhibit will run until early July. For more information, visit www.ccpvb.org. Sip Away a Summer Day at the San Sebastian Winery If you need a break from the beach, head to the edge of downtown for a complimentary tour and tasting at the San Sebastian Winery. These tours and tastings are offered daily from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Sunday. Here you can discover winemaking, tour the facility and taste test this St. Augustine wine. For more information, visit http://www.sansebastianwinery.com/information.php. Coming To St. Augustine this summer!

I

t is an age-old question - Who are we? Playwright and Creative Director, Ian Mairs and his band of storytellers, musicians, poets and performers has materialized the answer for our community with the live show SWAMP RADIO, a celebration of the culture, arts and history of northeast Florida. This July, Swamp Radio will perform its latest with “Summer in the Ancient City” in St. Augustine at the Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College July 18-19 at 7:30 pm. Mairs, whose other works have been produced from New York City to Atlanta, is passionate about the project as it centers on his hometown and the people and places that make it one of the best kept secrets on the east coast. He says Swamp Radio was inspired by NPR shows like ‘The Prairie Home Companion’ and ‘Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me’. Ian enjoyed these shows and thought it would be amazing to develop something similar for Northeast Florida, the place where he grew up and which he loves dearly. “I hope Swamp Radio will chronicle the story of our community, and help people celebrate and mythologize where they live”. Ian moved here as a child and noticed right away that Northeast Florida has what he calls a different flavor. “Overall”, he says, “Floridians are optimistic”. Mairs describes his experience best. “My father moved us to Jacksonville from Los Angeles in 1970. From the minute we crossed the state line, I felt I had set foot on a new planet. The air was hot and wet. The trees were lush and green. Everyone spoke with a funny accent. It didn’t take long for me to be hypnotized by the place. I came to understand folks in North Florida had a certain way of doing everything: cooking vegetables (frying them), making iced tea (with a ton of sugar) and answering your elders (with a “yes ma’am” on the end of every response.)” The stories and music of Swamp Radio conjure up a lifestyle that weaves together the past and present that is mysteriously just beneath the surface. Our community is a transient one, and Swamp Radio is able to provide a deeply pleasing introduction to newcomers while at the same time providing an accurate reflection to natives with oddly familiar characters like Swamp Lady or the flowing sounds of the Willow Wacks. The name Swamp Radio first came to Ian about two years ago. He wrote it down on a post it note and stuck it on his refrigerator where it stayed for a while until the ideas began to flow and it gained a momentum of its own. He says the response has been amazing. The idea attracted many unique contributors and Swamp Radio was awarded a Spark Grant from the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville, allowing them to produce two highly successful shows focusing on Jacksonville this past Spring. The podcast (available on at swampradiojax.com) has listeners from all over the world. According to Mairs, Swamp Radio will evolve slowly to maintain its integrity. The team of creatives plans to do shows in Brunswick, Georgia and New Orleans after their show in St. Augustine this Summer but there is no clear path other than seeing where the road takes them.

This summer Swamp Radio will turn its attention on St. Augustine: The best darn day trip you’ll ever take. Gas up the car, grab a Big Gulp, hop on Interstate 95 South and before you know it you’ll be parked in the oldest city in America. In this live episode, Swamp Radio will highlight the winning charms of St. Augustine — checking in with the groovy sounds of The WillowWacks (hometown duo), a quirky and not-so-serious side to the city’s rich history (provided by historian Wayne Wood) and the secret to making a Watermelon Mint popsicle from the folks at the Hyppo. Here’s the lineup: • The WillowWacks — folksy, lyrical husband and wife singing duo from St. Augustine. • Derek Coghlan — Irish storyteller (and Swamp Radio audience favorite) will recount the day he landed on the shores of north Florida (from his hometown of Castlepollard) and discovered the sun, the sea …and the thong. (This is a great tale.) • Tim Gilmore — author and history buff, Gilmore will tell the story of Fanny and Butch, a pair of notorious sea lions known for their numerous escapes from Marineland. • Ask Swamp Lady — think Ann Landers with a north Florida country spin on things.

Ode to Rosie A Message from The Vet ~ Dr. Veling, DVM Palencia Pet Clinic

Jessie simply opened the door to let Rosie out. She had done it ten thousand times before. Without thinking, Rosie turned toward the sound just outside the door under a foundation bush. A split second later the snake struck. Rosie cried out and jumped back but it was too late. The fangs penetrated above and below her left eye. Jessie saw the snake, a brown and beige diamond pattern on its back and head, and screamed for Rosie. Jessie grabbed Rosie and ran for the car. Minutes later, they came into our office. We dropped everything. Rosie was unresponsive and unconscious but breathing. There was blood above and below her left eye with significant swelling. It took two tries to get an IV catheter in place. We started IV fluids as fast as they could run. Then I ran for the refrigerator to mix up the Antivenin. Unfortunately, it took what seemed like an eternity to mix up the Antivenin. Antivenin mixes into solution incredibly slowly for any drug, much less for a drug used in life-threatening situations. She stopped breathing. We put in an endotracheal tube and started oxygen. We breathed for her. We gave the Antivenin. I checked for her heart beat. None found. We gave epinephrine through the catheter. No effect. Gave it again. No effect. We started chest compressions. No effect. We kept going with respirations and chest compressions. Her eyes were dilated. Her tongue had turned blue. There was nothing further we could do. Rosie was gone. I left Rosie with Nicholas and walked to where Jessie was waiting in reception. I had to tell her the words that every pet owner fears to hear. Her Rosie was gone. I have known Rosie and Jessie for nearly four years. There is no more caring pet owner that I have ever known than Jessie. She is shattered. She blames herself that she did not protect Rosie. Rosie’s death is no person’s fault. It was Rosie’s unfortunate and unlucky mistake. It could happen to any of our pets or any of us. All of us do the best we can to protect our pets. A snake curled where it has never been before. A split-second mistake made by a dog too close to a startled snake. There is no way to protect every dog from this random act of violence every time it has the potential to happen. It stinks. It’s rotten. It’s awful. Feel for Jessie like we do. Feel for her Rosie like we do. Do the best you can to protect your pets by looking outside before letting them out and then figure out ways to do more. I don’t have any easy answers. Be vigilant. They are out there and always will be.

Summer Movies!!! Earth To Echo

Relativity Media July 2, 2014 In Relativity’s PG summer family adventure movie, Tuck, Munch and Alex are a trio of inseparable friends whose lives are about to change. Their neighborhood is being destroyed by a highway construction project that is forcing their families to move away. But just two days before they must part ways, the boys begin receiving a strange series of signals on their phones. Convinced something bigger is going on, they team up with another school friend, Emma, and set out to look for the source of their phone signals. What they discover is something beyond their wildest imaginations: a small alien who has become stranded on Earth. In need of their help, the four friends come together to protect the alien and help him find his way home. This journey, full of wonder and adventure, is their story, and their secret. And So It Goes

Clarius Entertainment July 11, 2014 There are a million reasons not to like realtor Oren Little (Michael Douglas), and that’s just the way he likes it. Willfully obnoxious to anyone who might cross his path, he wants nothing more than to sell one last house and retire in peace and quiet, until his estranged son suddenly drops off a granddaughter (Sterling Jerins) he never knew existed and turns his life upside-down. Clueless about how to care for a sweet, abandoned nine-yearold, he pawns her off on his determined and lovable neighbor Leah (Diane Keaton) and tries to resume his life uninterrupted. But little by little, Oren stubbornly learns to open his heart, to his family, to Leah, and to life itself, in this uplifting comedy from acclaimed director Rob Reiner. Beach - As mentioned above, the residents of St. Johns love the beach. According to our survey, the winner of best beach, and this was by a nose hair, is Vilano Beach, with St. Augustine, Guana State Park / Ponte Vedra and Mickler’s coming in statistically tied. Community - No clear winner here as so many love their communities all along CR 210 and throughout Northern St. Johns. Heart of Palm by Laura Lee Smith Local author, Laura Lee Smith’s Heart of Palm is a saga of a native North Florida Family, the Bravo Family, set in St. Augustine. “Some call them Florida crackers, some call them rednecks. They love to run their trucks in the dunes, their powerboats along the Intercostal or its tributaries; they support the UF Gators and the local Lil Champ. Sometimes they’re in the local jail or ER and sometimes passed out at the fish camp.” – Vermeer Fan. Through its unique characters like the matriarch Arla, the story allows readers an insightful glimpse into the complexity of life and culture here.

A Hundred Summers by Beatriz Williams Lily Dane’s family has summered in Seaview. Rhode Island for generations. Set in the 1930’s the story centers around Lily, her former best friend Budgie and Nick, the man they both want for their own. If you crave a tale about family secrets, love triangles and the tangled webs we weave – and let’s not forget seaside views, this one is for you!

Beautiful Ruins By Jess Walter Jess Walter’s Beautiful Ruins is set in coastal Italy in the 1950s and present day, beautifully weaving together a modern day search with an epic event in the life of Italian villager. When

a young beautiful actress named Dee Moray arrives to stay at The Hotel Adequate View, everything changes. As the book progresses we find out what happened to these characters over time and how their lives and the lives of so many others were changed as well. Publisher describes it as “an irresistible romp through Italy in the Technicolor era, when a starlet hooked up with the dashingly drunken Richard Burton and charmed the townspeople in a tiny seaside village”.

The Yonahlossee Riding Camp for Girls by Anton DiSclafani This coming of age novel set in the 1930s, takes us from the North Florida to North Carolina, as a young girl names Thea Atwell is sent away from home to the Yonahlossee Riding Camp for Girls in North Carolina. The setting is beautiful and conjure up images of what it was like to live in this time and place. But the story of why Thea has been exiled is what draws you in and keeps you hooked. Thea’s actions are sometimes disturbing as her shadow side comes through in this story about dark secrets and youth, and the consequences of our actions.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green Honestly, the book is great though sad. It conveys the hardship of two families, each with teenagers battling cancer. The romance between the two teenagers is the heart of the story and even through the most difficult of life’s challenges they have the greatest of times, reminding us that life is short and infinitely precious. Even if you have seen the movie - the book is worth reading!

Spa ME

FULL Service Wellness in Your Neighborhood

I

f you are trying to reverse the signs of aging, find a new fa(r) Lindsay Navin, Spa Manager & (l) Yvette Prybylski, cial service or get relief from Desk Coordinator at Spa ME the stresses of everyday life with an expert-level massage, Spa ME is the perfect place to find what you desire. The best thing about Spa ME is it is locally owned and it’s right in our neighborhood, conveniently located in the offices near St. Johns Forest on CR 210 just behind First Florida Credit Union. Spa ME has become a favorite among locals in northern St. Johns for its high quality medical grade esthetic services and massage therapy at affordable prices. People return time and again because the professionals there know how to help people look and feel their best. The owner, Dr. Richard Townsend opened Spa ME in May 2010 as a neighborhood boutique Spa offering high quality services at affordable prices. Dr. Townsend is a Board Certified Family Physician who graduated from Wake Forest University and was in the top of his class in medical school at the University of South Florida. He was also a Flight Surgeon in the United States Navy stationed at NAS Jax, finishing his residency at Mayo Clinic in 2003. Lindsay Navin is the Manager at Spa ME and has been with the company since its inception. She and her team of certified massage therapists, physician’s assistants and estheticians has worked closely with Dr. Townsend to develop the spa into what it is today. Lindsay is also a licensed esthetician with more than fifteen years experience in the skin care industry. She feels that her facials are clinical in nature with a focus on results. Treating specific skin concerns is the priority while also providing a very relaxing experience. She is trained on IPL and lesion removal as well as an expert in all chemical peels and microdermabrasion. Lindsay also lives in our community. The signature feature is a Spa ME membership component that allows clients to come on a regular basis and receive a sizable discount for services and products purchased. For instance, one massage is not as effective in providing relief and reducing aches and pains as a package that allows people to come in on a regular basis. The same is true of facials, which are recommended on a regular basis to maintain a healthy glow. “We believe our small boutique setting offers a very comfortable and friendly atmosphere where our members can easily request their favorite service providers for their monthly treatments”, said Navin. Dr. Townsend’s decision to offer memberships was intended to foster a closer relationship between the spa and the community. As the owner and physician next-door at Baptist Primary Care, Dr. Townsend wanted his patients to be able to have the option to have cosmetic procedures done such as Botox, laser hair removal and dermal fillers in a safe, professional manner. Dr. Townsend adds that Spa ME will always strive to provide a personal touch. Clients love the clean and stress free environment of Spa Me. All four therapy rooms are decorated with peace and tranquility in mind to foster increased relaxation.
