God’s Love It quickly becomes clear that the word love doesn’t always mean the same thing. One person may say, “I love ice cream,” simply meaning he enjoys it. Another will say, “Oh, I love your outfit,” meaning she admires–or desires–he clothing you are wearing. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could use a consistent definition of love, especially when we are speaking about the love God has for us and the love we should have for each other? Sadly, such consistency is lacking in the world. Most people will acknowledge that love, or at least some degree of respect, is essential for personal relationships. A great deal of caution is in order as we consider the definitions of love. Some are so vague they excuse almost any type of behavior. At times, love is merely a code word to encourage the acceptance of unconventional, destructive patterns of conduct. I believe that every emotionally healthy person wants to love and be loved! We want to be loved as who we are, and not whom someone wants us to be for them! We want to be accepted. But the Royalty of Love can't come from the heart unless a real love relationship with Jesus Christ exists in it! Love is the center piece of the Ten Commandments. Do you know the ultimate purpose of God's law? Jesus Christ defined the purpose of God’s law as teaching us how to apply the two great principles of loving God and loving each other. He made this clear when someone asked Him, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” How did Jesus respond? “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets’ ” (Matthew 22:35-40). It is there also that Moses wrote, “And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes which I
command you today for your good?” (Deuteronomy 10:12-13). Every commandment of God is for our good. Did you notice in the preceding passage that obeying God’s commandments and practicing love are irrevocably linked together in God’s eyes? This is because the commandments define the love that is the foundation for all godly relationships. Love simply summarizes the intent of the Ten Commandments. Paul wrote: “‘The commandments, 'You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet’; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, 'Love your neighbor as yourself’ ” (Romans 13:9). When Jesus explained that everything written in “the Law and the Prophets” falls under the two major headings of love for God and love for neighbor, He was emphasizing the importance of relationships (Matthew 22:35-40). He was telling us that every command of God defines an aspect of the exemplary relationships we should have with each other or with Him. When we look closely at the Ten Commandments, we see that the first four define how to relate to God–how to show proper love and respect for our Maker. The other six define the essentials for right relationships with each other. This is fundamental to understanding God's laws and their importance. They are not mere regulations or rituals. Those who cast them in this light misunderstand God’s intent and purpose in giving us His law. God plainly tells us that all of His commandments are for our good. They have a purpose. They are to be a blessing and benefit to humankind. They define the relationships that produce respect, cooperation and stability within any society that fully understands and applies them. The essence of everything we do should be traced back to the foundation of God’s Love. The key to our victory is for love to become our lifestyle. The very core of our being should radiate the life of love! Love stays in difficult relationships with kindness-Love does not play one-up-man-ship nor does it react to those who do-Love is not rude or grasping or overly sensitive, nor does love search of imperfections and fault to others. Love celebrates the real, not what is perverse or incomplete. Love is the most enduring quality of human existence because it lasts forever; it trusts in God in every situation and expects God to act upon every circumstance. It is the connection of God’s love inside us and his love we give back to one another! Nothing can destroy it because Love is the power of eternal life!
Pslam 18: The Power That Raised Jesus From The Dead: by Debbie Dillard
This Psalm is definitely about our Lord Jesus Christ, as it describes graphically his death, resurrection, exaltatation, Second Coming, and glorious Kingdom. Nowhere else in the Bible are we given such a vivid account of the tremendous battle that took place in the unseen world at the time of our Savior's resurrection. Jesus describes himself as being bound with ropes, entangled by cords, and being confronted with a host of inescapable snares. In such a desperate situation, there is only one resource: prayer to God. Christ did not ask to be delivered from dying; after all, this was His purpose in coming into the world.(John 12:27) What he requested was to be delivered out of death. " Who in the days of his flesh, having offered up both supplications and entreaties to Him who was able to save Him out of death, with strong crying and tears. In his deep distress Christ had the assurance that His prayer was answered as he cried out saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, My
God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?") Matthew 27: 45-46. At the resurrection of Christ, the battle began between God and the host of hell. Satan and all his demons encamped at the tomb outside Jerusalem, determined that the Lord Christ would never rise again. Then, God lowered the heavens and came down in the greatest display of power the world has ever seen. Apostle Paul explained as the working of His mighty power which he worked in Christ when He raised him from the dead. (Eph, 1:19, 20). At the approach of God the earth is convulsed. His rage is fierce, pictured by smoke billowing forth from his nostrils, intense fire issuing in torrents from his mouth, and great coals of flame hurtling against his enemies. As Jesus descends, riding upon a cloud that resembles a cherub, the world is shaken by a violent storm of darkness, thunder, lightning and hailstones pummeling the enemy in a massive bombing attack. Just as in the crossing of the Red Sea, the waters of the sea, and rivers recoil in fear at the titanic
display of the wrath of the Almighty. In striking symbolism God smashes, bruises, crushes, wounds and maims the foe until he retreats in utter defeat. Then, He reaches down and takes Christ from the still-sealed tomb. Hallelujah! Christ is risen! Not only does God raise Jesus from the dead, but he gives him a triumphant ascension through the enemy's realm and glorifies Him at his own right hand. Dear Jesus, We realize you were a real man, true flesh and blood, a son of a mother, dying with unbearable agony. Your first word at the cross was Forgiveness! "Father, forgive them," may we understand that we too are forgiven by you, Lord, if we confess our sins to you that God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. (John 1:9). Now you have died on the cross for all of us, we are united with God the Father as his beloved children! Thank you Jesus that we might be reconciled to God for eternity...AMEN! Happy Happy Birthday Jesus!
Jesus is the World's Savior: Happy Birthday Jesus by Renae Riley & Debbie Dillard
Losing a loved one is never easy. The holidays can be difficult time for families that have recently lost a loved one. Coping with grief or depression can be devastating around Christmas as it highlights the absence of the person they lost, or someone who will be missed forever more. When someone close to me dies, a way that helps me to deal with the grief, the void, the empty seat, is to remember a play that I saw at Fellowship Church in Grapevine Texas. It was a story about a man who died and as soon as he took his next breath, God's warm gentle hand reached out and took his hand and lead him into a glorious bright light. He was not alone...God was with him. The man had a smile on his face and immediately heard thunderous applause and whistling and cheering from all that were waiting for him in Heaven. Instead of fo-
cusing on all that I miss, I try to realize that my sweet loved ones are being greeted with love and cheers and open arms from a place that has no tears, no sadness and is in the place we all long to be. Life is short...love the ones you have and look forward to being greeted in Heaven by those whom we are desperate to see again. John 14: 2-3 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. Later, Jesus appeared to Thomas and said to him, "Reach here your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand, and put it into My side; and be not unbelieving, but believing," (John 20:27).

Chris Hayes… Why He Will be Your Next Realtor! Realtor and developer Chris Hayes has been practicing real estate since 1992. He began his career in California soon after graduating from San Jose State University with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. “I’m a numbers guy which is why I was initially drawn to accounting. After working for the national accounting firm of Coopers and Lybrand for a couple of years, I realized I didn’t want to sit at a computer and crunch numbers all day – I wanted to interact with people.” Purchasing his first home in San Jose introduced him to the real estate business and he was intrigued by the volatile real estate market of California in the 90’s. Taking a leap of faith he left his accounting job, became a Realtor and took a position with a national brokerage in San Jose. In 1996 he decided to move back to his hometown of Shreveport to be closer to his family. “From the beginning I was interested in developing new concepts in running a real estate business and fresh ideas for marketing properties.” Chris says. Part of this forward thinking was the development of the team approach. Traditionally, real estate agents handle all aspects of a client’s business: listing and showing homes, marketing, contract negotiation, arranging property inspections and coordinating a multitude of details associated with getting a property to the closing table. These efforts, multiplied by the number of clients the Realtor is serving, is an overwhelming task for a single Realtor, and often results in enormous stress for the client and the Realtor alike. This also sometimes leaves
clients with a negative impression of the real estate business. Chris’ idea was to build a team composed of individual professionals who each specialized in a separate step of the transaction. “The Team approach lets each individual team member focus on the elements of real estate that they most enjoy – for me, it is making deals happen, ensuring I get the best price possible for the client and making sure the client has the most up-to-date information regarding home values, local trends, and options in financing. As I developed this idea I knew who I wanted for my first team member: my sister, whose broad skills base freed me to focus on clients and marketing while she managed the paperwork – and had my back!” Once he could focus on growing his business, he began to bring new team members into the fold and The Chris Hayes Team was born. The next step was to start implementing new marketing strategies in order to expose his listings to the greatest number of buyers. “When I first started out, the MLS didn’t even have pictures of the houses on it! We relied mostly on newspaper advertising and a sign in the yard. I knew we could do better.” He began using 1-800 hotline numbers and small radio transmitters placed in each home to describe the houses. “I look back at those things now and they seem ancient, but at the time they were very innovative.” The internet has caused a tremendous change in marketing across the board, and real estate marketing is no exception. Chris created one of the first local real estate websites,

ChrisHayesTeam.com and has been a leader in internet marketing ever since. Ninety percent of home buyers start their search on the internet. “Consumers want their information provided quickly and concisely. That’s why we’ve added individual property websites and instant text info. A quality photographic tour of the property is essential in saving the client time, allowing them to quickly choose those properties they’re interested in seeing in person – and this can be done at midnight in their pajamas if they want.” Chris admits that innovation and technology aren’t everything though. After 20 years in the residential real estate business, Chris likes to think he’s learned a thing or two about what really matters, and that is the relationship between Realtor and client. “When I first started in the business, it was the thrill of the sale that excited me. I was so young and didn’t understand the value of not only making the sale, but making the experience a good one for the consumer and building relationships with the people I serve. Today, I want every client we help to think Chris Hayes Team when they think of real estate. I
want to treat them so well that they refer their friends and family because they know that I and my team will treat them with care and respect.” This desire to build relationships as well as business is what led Chris to become a partner in the local Keller Williams Realty office. “I noticed that across America many well-respected, top producing agents were making the move to Keller Williams Realty and that piqued my interest. The more I researched this company, the more impressed I became.” Keller Williams promotes a business model focusing on the local community. The philosophy of the company is to serve local communities through fund-raising, community service, and charity as well as providing excellent real estate business services. Chris’ commitment to customer service and innovative marketing has made Chris Hayes and ChrisHayes Team.com one of the most recognizable brands in the North Louisiana region; but it is his integrity and kindness that have won him the appreciation (and repeat business) of so many clients across the area.

ORIENTAL RUGS GALLERY CELEBRATING 40 YEARS!
Q&A WITH ARK-LA-TEX ORIENTAL RUGS GALLERY 1. WHAT IS A PERSIAN RUG? HOW DO I KNOW IT IS AUTHENTIC RATHER THAN A “KNOCK-OFF”? A Persian rug is hand-made in Iran, using superior materials, dyeing processes, and designs that have been used for thousands of years. Over the past few decades, other countries such as India, Pakistan, and China have tried to copy the designs. The term “Oriental” carpets incorporates these other countries. However, only rugs made in Iran are true, Persian carpets. 2. HOW CAN I TELL IT IS A REALLY GOOD CARPET? Machine vs. Hand-Made: Look at the back of the carpet. The machines make a uniform warp-and-weft grid that looks wholly different from the variations and slightly wavy warps and wefts of hand-knotted carpets. The tighness of the weave and, again, looking at the back of the rug to make sure it is as clear a design on the back as it is on the front is another indication. A Persian rug will have a label on it indicating its country of origin. A master designer and weaver will sometimes sign their rug. Their signature, and sometimes the date, will be incorporated into design in the middle of the upper edge of the carpet. 3. HOW DO I CLEAN MY RUG? Because of the tighness of the knot and the materials that are used, Persian rugs are virtually maintenance free. It is recommended that you use an electric sweeper to clean your woolen rug and, if you spill something on it, to clean it right away, using a mild detergent like Woolite. Persian rugs can also be taken outside and hosed down and cleaned, again using a mild detergent and then hosing it down again to get the suds out. In addition to using a mild detergent, the important thing is to get the moisture out as quickly as possible, so using something like a Shop-Vac is recommended. An experienced, professional cleaner can also be used, and is advisable for such carpet materials as silk, which is more delicate than wool, which is very durable.

4. WHAT AGE CLASSIFICATION IS GIVEN TO RUGS? OLD = less than 50 years old SEMI-ANTIQUE = 50-80 years old ANTIQUE = Above 80 years old 5. HOW DO I MEASURE TO MAKE SURE I AM PURCHASING THE CORRECT SIZE RUG? Two mistakes that people often make are: to purchase a rug that ends up being too small for the space, and to not take into account chairs pulled away from the table when measuring for the dining room area. When measuring, make sure you measure the largest the rug can be and also the smallest you want it to be. 6. WILL MY RUG FADE? Part of the rug-making process by Iranians is the superior dying process and materials used to make Persian rugs. Before being made into rugs, the yarn is washed several times, and, upon completion of the carpet, that same multiple-washing technique is employed. This is done to secure the color and to keep it from running. While it is unlikely a Persian rug will fade much, if at all, one will notice that their rugs will age gracefully. [ 7 HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE A PERSON TO MAKE A PERSIAN RUG? All authentic Persian rugs are hand made; none are machine made. For a small (3 x 5) rug, it might take a person several months to make that rug. Medium-sized rugs (5 x 8) can take a person or people up to a year to complete. Very large rugs (10 x 20) might take a group of people years to finish it, and larger silk rugs, which often have up to 1,000 knots or more per square inch can take a person a lifetime to complete.

8. WHAT DETERMINES THE VALUE OF A RUG? Hand-made rugs are more valuable than machine-made rugs. The back of the rug will help a person determine if it is hand-made or machine-made. A hand-made rug has the same, vibrant design as the front of the rug. Knot count: the more knots per square inch, the more valuable the rug.

that smell delicious such as fresh apple, raspberry, and more! Like most pet owners, you probably take your pet to the groomer every few months to get a wash and cut. But in between visits, it’s important to maintain your dog’s look as well as their hygiene. Whether you have trouble getting your pet in the bath, find teeth brushing an impossible task or cringe at the very thought of clipping your four-legged friend’s nails, here are a few tricks from Paradise Pets that will help you keep your pet in tip-top shape. “One big mistake I see pet parents make is neglecting to comb their pet before a bath. It is super-important that people do this, because whatever tangles the pet might have, if they get wet, that makes them hard to dry, and then when they do dry, their fur cinches up," says Sue! Periodontal disease is a huge problem for many pets, especially dogs, and often occurs because owners overlook the importance of daily (or even weekly) oral care. Brushing your pet’s teeth should be an essential part of their care.
Just as what humans eat affects the health of their skin, the food your pet eats will make a difference in their coat. To ensure a thick, shiny coat, opt for wholesome foods that feature meat and meat meals as the first two ingredients stay away from treats, or foods that have red dye in them! Eyes and ears need regular cleaning as well. For the ears, recommends using rubbing alcohol. “I like to put it on a cotton ball, then gently go around the outside of the ear, and then [lightly around the inside edge] because if there’s any bacteria, it kills it”. For the tear ducks underneath the eyes, drinking distilled water is important. If you are looking for personal attention for your pet along with a highly trained staff for all your grooming needs, this is the place to go! Sue and her attention to detail and well trained staff treat your pets as if they were their own. You can feel Lots of love and affection the second you walk in the door! Congrats Paradise Pets because you are voted as Southern Hospitality’s Best Unique Boutique Groomer in Shreveport!
God’s Animal Creation Caught In e Crossfire Of Abuse Written by Danny Raney
“A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.” Proverbs 12:10
In the book of Genesis God gave man dominion over the entire earth. However, dominion is not intended to be used as a "license to abuse" the part of God's creation known as the animal kingdom. Man was given the ability to choose between good and evil. Animals were not given this gift of choice; but instead God instilled in them an "inner instinct" for survival and direction. By one man's choice of disobedience "sin and death" were cast into the world not only bringing about the fall of mankind but also causing a curse to be placed upon nature which includes every living creature on earth. Man was guilty and deserved punishment for his disobedience. The animal kingdom was innocent but nonetheless suffered under the same curse that befell man...a curse which destroyed most of the world's beauty and a curse which allowed animals to be subject to abuse much to the dishonor of their Creator. The role of animals in the bible is very significant. In the seventh chapter of Genesis we have animals entering Noah's Ark. This was during an era in which the people were so corrupt that the only human beings allowed on board the Ark were Noah and his family...eight souls along with an enormous amount of animals. Noah's Ark wasn't the only picture of man's salvation involving animals. In the book of Jonah, we have a prophet named Jonah swallowed up by a whale...a mammal. In the 2nd book of Samuel we have a story of confession and restoration as a prophet named Nathan tells a parable to King David about a little ewe lamb stolen from a poor man which not only brought the king back to spiritual reality but also brought him to his knees before God. These are only a select
few of the many instances in the Word of God where animals were used by God as instruments to carry out His plans and purposes. Please don't misunderstand my message here. I would never put the animal kingdom on the same level as humanity; nor would I attempt to put it anywhere near the plateau of our Almighty God. However, it seems that since humanity and the animal kingdom are clearly a major part of God's creation then to mistreat or abuse either would be the same as disrespecting God Himself. We all know that animals do not have a conscience; but neither did man before the fall in the Garden of Eden. Man's conscience only came into play in Genesis 3:7 which says, "And the eyes of them both were opened..." That was the day in which human innocence died and the conscience was born unto man. So where does the role of the innocent animal fall into all of this? Criminals stay on death row for years, some get life-long sentences and some never get caught for their crimes. But an animal such as a dog or cat gets put on death row immediately with no attorney to defend it nor judge or jury to issue sentence only because it is homeless. Or maybe the poor animal robs scraps from a neighborhood trash can in order to feed its hunger. Even then it is only guilty of feeding off someone's throw-away garbage while using its God-given instinct to survive. Picture yourself walking in the paws of one of these creatures and you may just see animal life in a whole new perspective. No, I didn't start out intending to create a "message of hope" to the world concerning the salvation of animals. It just
happened. There are too few organizations lending a helping hand and I figured it was high time someone else stepped up to the plate and went to bat for these helpless creatures. Their voices need to be heard. And with all my God-given ability I intend to make sure their "message of hope" is delivered as God's creation awaits the day our Redeemer Jesus Christ will restore all things to their original state. There are certain events that occur in our lives that throw us violently off course, shifting our hearts and minds into another direction, and then suddenly the world looks at us as being psychotic or insane. Still, we press on with our newfound desires and passions, enduring hardships and often ridicule in our transformation. In the battles we encounter, however, we find a brand new world we never knew existed throughout our earlier years...in my case a world where I can rescue and change the fate of a few of God's creatures. For me, this world began with a dream that soon became known as Fort Catamo...a homeless shelter which now houses over 35 cats. Most of these animals were not exactly the adoptable type, most were wild or feral, several had all kinds of medical problems from accidents, abuse or disease. However, I didn't discriminate by choosing a particular breed, color or cat of my liking. I trapped every cat regardless of the problem each of these feline creatures were plagued with. The expense for veterinary care was tremendous; however the cost of the medical bills weren't the biggest concerns in my book; the toll it took on my heart as I witnessed pain, suffering, and sometimes death outweighed any monetary losses by far. Throughout the last couple of years I've observed many times how nature and accidents oftentimes deals animals a bad hand; however, we don't need their suffering to be compounded by abuse or mistreatment from the hands of humans. Aside from sweat and hard work "What reward does the Captain of Fort Catamo receive from all of this?" For the most part I've met a lot of people and gained a lot of friends. But the most rewarding thing is as I look out across Fort Catamo I get to observe and learn from a part of God's creation that I was never aware of until now. Even though I've experienced some tragedies and a few cat skirmishes here and there, mostly I've seen only positive results from this feline colony. To witness these creature's playful habits, jumping and climbing skills, and other mysterious traits have brought me many hours of enjoyment. However, the part that amazes me the most is mid-morning nap time. This is when Fort Catamo transforms from an atmosphere of major activity into one of peace and tranquility. And this also is when I am reminded, through prayer walks and meditation, that nature truly does indeed bear the footprints of its Creator. To some people, at least from a human perspective, the choice to build Fort Catamo might have seemed like a bad decision; but from a cat's perspective...I think it was the purrrrrrrrrrrfect choice.
Special thanks to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ...the "Lion of Judah" and the "Lamb of God," and to my neighbor Richard Self who by his encouraging words inspired me to keep the flag flying at Ft. Catamo, and neighbor Weldon Trant, owner of Indian Buildings. Thanks also to Dr. Pam Coker, Dr.Daryl Sears, and a host of others who helped make Ft. Catamo a reality. Bless you all.

Shreveport's jewel of radio, By Jane Bokun
Louise Alley
Radio host and entrepreneur 5’1” Louise Alley was always on top of her game. The dark haired beauty became a Shreveport mainstay during the 80s, but she began her career as an air traffic controller in Shreveport’s Downtown Airport when it was the city’s terminal for commercial air liners. “I grew up in Shreveport, this is my home,” Alley said in an earlier article. As a veteran radio personality, Alley was with KBCL, KWKH and KFLO (1300 AM). In years past her radio program aired from Louisa’s Health and Beauty Resort on E. 70th St. in Shreveport. Her show included interviews, recipes, music and a small flea market. This was what Alley always wanted to do, she said. She met her husband Ben Alley at Barksdale Air Force Base. Together, they had two children: Raymond and Camille. Still lively, Alley always loved to cook and try out new recipes. She also was known as an avid antique hunter and loved to collect jewelry. Alley also enjoyed high fashion and narrating style shows. “I find such personal enjoyment in dressing well,” Alley said. When she was called on to help, she gave her all. Her favorite quote was “God loves a fighter for a good cause.” Alley ended her broadcasts with “May the Road rise to meet you; may the wind be always at your back; and until we meet again, may the good Lord always hold you in the palm of his hand.”
Louise Alley's lifelong talent as Female Talk Show Host,( in radio industry) is best described as commercial & promotion reads; continuity announcing/presentation; ºbut overall she transforms her passion to action in everything she does. Most people walk in and out of your life, but only FRIENDS leave footprints in your heart. " I only wish to inspire to the things you have achieved, and that speaks from my heart and oth-

We are honored to have MARK WOOD as the Guest Director of the 2012 SCRMC Honors String Orchestra ood is a worldrenowned performer who rose to fame as string master and founding member of the internationally acclaimed Trans Siberian Orchestra. A successful solo artist in his own right, Wood writes and records original music for film and television, has released six solo albums, and tours with his band The Mark Wood Experience (MWE) which features his wife, vocalist Laura Kaye, and their drummer son Elijah. His commission credits include The Julliard Juilliard School and extensive TV broadcast music including The Winter Olympics and The Tour
W
de France (for which he won an Emmy). Recording artist, performer, producer, inventor, Emmy–winning composer and music education advocate Mark Wood has spent the past four decades electrifying the orchestra industry – literally.Dubbed “The Les Paul of The Violin World” by PBS, the Juilliard – trained violinist (he attended on full scholarship) first turned the string establishment on its head in the early 1970’s with the his invention of the first solid body electric violin. His company Wood Violins is the premier manufacturer of electric violins, violas and cellos worldwide and he holds the patent for the first-ever self-supporting violin. The company stands behind its claim to have made the most important change to the violin in 400 years and is often referred to as the “Stradivarius of electric violins.” With a design
as stunning as their sound, Wood Violins pack both sonic and visual punch. Their premier electric violin, The Viper, has found favor with musicians as varied as Lady Gaga’s violinist Judy Kang, Carrie Underwood’s violinist Jimmy Herman, and Big and Rich’s violinist Shawn Bailey. But his true passion is music education. His program Electrify Your Strings (EYS) – now in its 10th year – is an intensive rock and roll workshop for school music education departments that boosts student self-esteem and motivation and helps raise money for music education. Today EYS visits upwards of 60 schools per year and there is a waiting list of schools wanting to participate. The organization has been featured on The Today Show and CBS Evening News and in countless local media outlets.

Notini's Italian Restaurant…
…first opened for business in June of 1982. Jerry Notini Kolniak and his brother Ronnie and their father Stanley started the Italian restaurant. The restaurant was opened in honor of Jerry's grandfather, Antonio Notini, who immigrated to this country from Barga, Italy on November 19, 1909. Antonio worked in the restaurant and bar business until his retirement in 1960. Notini's Italian Restaurant is a casual dining experience with a family atmosphere. You may see some customers in shorts and t-shirts and others in tuxedos and evening dresses. Prices are moderate. Notini's prides itself in producing their food from scratch on the premises in their own kitchen. Our own recipe for a plain tomato sauce and a white fettuccine alfredo sauce are made daily at the restaurant and is the basis for other menu items, like lasagna, chicken fettuccine, shrimp fettuccine and other items. Notini's Italian Restaurant is located in the 2000 block of a busy Airline Drive in the Bossier Corners Shopping Center.

Voted Best Mexican Bossier City SHM 2011
E
lias Sifuentes left his home in Monterrey, Mexico forty years ago, making his home first in Los Angeles where he worked in a couple of restaurants. By the end of 1966, he was ready to go elsewhere and took a job with Houston’s Mexican Patio Restaurant. It was at that point that he began thinking seriously about the food business, maybe having a restaurant of his own. “I started working there and visualizing what I would do if it were mine, but I wasn’t ever dreaming this,” Sifuentes admits, looking around his office on Bossier City’s Airline Drive filled with memorabilia gathered over the past two decades. It was a job with Pancho’s (which is based in Houston) that transferred him to Bossier City in the late Sixties. This summer Elias Sifuentes will be celebrating twenty-five years as proprietor of the seven Nicky’s Mexican Restaurants in Shreveport, Bossier,
Minden, and Springhill. The years at Pancho's were somewhat rocky, definitely disenchanting, so much so that Elias had to look for other work to support himself and his family. He took a job with the City of Bossier, starting at the bottom as a garbage man. His only regret today is that he never got to drive the truck. During that time he applied for and landed a job at General Electric, where he worked on the line. In 1979 he left GE and not long afterwards became reacquainted with Nicky Ponce. The two men began a Mexican eatery called La Margarita, “Suddenly though it closed, and I was unemployed; Nicky
and I both were unemployed,” In August of 1979 both men started Nicky's Mexican Restaurant along with co-founder Thomas Eason. Three years later, Elias bought out Nicky. With speaking very little english at the time that he left Nicky; Elias and Thomas Eason met the challenges of the restaurant business. Later on Thomas Eason retired and Elias Sifuentes became the sole owner of Nickys Mexican Restaurant. Elias has managed to bring us seven Nicky's Mexican Restaurants with great quality and service. Today Elias is joined by his son Johnny Sifuentes to continue the legacy of great food and service. ❖
Nicky’s Mexican Restaurant, a Legacy of Great Food, Quality and Service!
