Clean Slate

A few short years ago an earthquake devastated the villages of our Nepal Artisans. This interlayer comes from the rebuilding of the structures they live and work from. Wood shavings were taken from the new beams, walls, and work sites, and painted by our designers for diversity. This special interlayer represents a new and powerful start from the ground up.

Fray paper, made from the pulp of the lokta trees, is block pressed using traditional technique by our Artisans in Nepal, a group who was also heavily affected by the disaster and the rebuild. A. Artisans in Tamesloht, Morocco hand-paint thin fabrics with metallic paint in traditional Moroccan designs from memory. They also run a nearby children’s shelter called Centre Fiers et Fords meaning “The Center of the Proud and Strong.” We named their hand-painted interlayer Fiers in honor of the work they do with the children.
