RU T G E R S U N I V E R S I T Y P R OTOT Y P E T R A N S I T S H E LT E R N E W B RU N S W I C K , N J Rutgers University turned to us to design a transit shelter prototype that would be durable, cost-effective, and an identifying icon throughout the New Brunswick area campuses. Our solution successfully compliments the varying surrounding architectural styles and shows school spirit by subtly bathing the students in Scarlet Red. The design of the typical module, the arrangement of multiple modules to create the first stop, its fabrication, and erection were all completed within a 3-month time-frame. The module is a tree-like cluster of curved tube steel columns supporting a steel pergola, covered by 1/2” thick Scarlet Red and Clear polycarbonate translucent roofing panels. The master plan includes 38 stops on the New Brunswick campuses. MATERIALS • Custom steel columns & roof framing • Rutgers Scarlet Red polycarbonate roof panels • Stainless steel gutter & leaders • Perforated steel infill panels • Signage & Nextbus® communications
