Creative Director

A professional course to become a Creative Director or innovative entrepreneur

This program allows students to learn how to set up a creative project, conceptualize and develop proposals, and enter into a process of sourcing and industrialization, as well as managing teams focused on innovation and research.

Throughout this course, students develop a creative research project or entrepreneurial project from its conceptual phase right up to its presentation before a panel of industry professionals. The curriculum also includes product development, communications and event management practices as well as exploratory research methodology.

A close relationship with the professional world: in addition to a 6-month professional placement or work-study program, conferences are held every month with prestigious guest speakers from major companies as well as emerging designers.

It is also possible to do an internship for your own brand, or another French or international brand. In addition, this program instills a strong awareness of ecological design (eco-responsible sourcing, textiles, upcycling, etc.).

Targeted Career Paths

Depending on your project and chosen career path, students can assist and then aim to become a brand's Creative or Artistic Director, working in a studio or workshop with additional managerial responsibilities.

Positions in product development and/or production are also possible, as well as positions with a strategic and managerial position at an international level. Many will be able to take the entrepreneurship route and build their own brand or business concept from scratch.

For those who have chosen to continue their studies at a Doctorate level in Applied Arts or Innovation, research positions at certain houses offer great career opportunities.

For those aiming for Creative Director positions, for their own business or for a brand.

For those wishing to explore specific creative techniques or move into research.

Available full-time (in English) or as an “alternance” (in French).

A Bachelor's degree in Design (from a fashion school or equivalent) or a degree in Applied Arts with a strong interest in fashion. Other profiles (business schools, art schools, human sciences) according to creativity, skills and experience. B2 level in English required (exception for the “alternance” option.)

6 progressive focuses spanning 2 years

For the full time English program, the first three semesters are based in the classroom followed by a six-month internship. For the French “alternance” format students spend one week at ESMOD and three weeks at a company each month over the four semesters.

Design Project

Be able to create and produce collections.

The course is based around creating an innovative design project, open to multiple variations in clothing design and beyond (other textile productions, finishings, embroidery, accessory design, videos, etc.).

This project includes artistic direction, working in a design studio, prototyping and production.

Branding

Courses in Branding, Management, Marketing, Communications, Product Development, as well as lectures by professionals to allow students to integrate various skill sets and manage the different stages in production and marketing for a brand, a collection or a product.

Fashion Culture & Artistic Direction

Through various classes, workshops and conferences, this focus allows student to acquire the knowledge of fashion culture (both artistic and professional) necessary to understand the current fashion landscape and its evolution.

The classes offered include: History of Art and Design, Emerging Designers, Textiles and Made in France. Guest lectures on topics such as Artistic Direction are also included.

Research Methodology

This selection of courses provides an introduction to Research and Innovation in Fashion, through specialized lectures, individual coaching sessions and seminars on current affairs and research.

Students are also prepped to write their fifth year dissertation through various writing and methodology workshops.

Students can be supported should they wish to pursue a Doctorate.

Immersive Internship and Dissertation

Writing a dissertation is the final part of the course, where students present the problems encountered and the solutions that would address them. At the same time, a 6-month placement or workstudy program, linked to the creative project and dissertation itself, enables students to understand the managerial practices of companies behind the creative process in design.
