FROM THE DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT Dear Parents and Community Members,

focus of students and improved instructional programs.

The new state report card is designed to offer a comprehensive picture of BendLa Pine Schools. On the individual school reports, 93% of our schools received overall ratings of 4 or 5, with 18.5% of our schools rated in the top 10% of Oregon schools.

We appreciate greatly the involvement of parents and community in support of our schools. We look forward to a continued partnership this year.

While results are good overall, we have not achieved equal results with all groups of students. Increasing achievement with all is a high priority of our schools. Considerable attention has been placed on increasing academic rigor throughout the district and special attention is being directed to improving results.

Thank you, Superintendent | Ron Wilkinson

With a focus on college and career readiness, BendLa Pine Schools began use of the ACT college readiness testing of all 8th through 11th grade students in 2007. Since 100% of our students take the ACT, the percentage taking the SAT exam has declined. The use of the ACT tests has increased the college readiness

Priority Schools are high poverty schools that were ranked in the bottom 5% of Title IA schools in the state based on Oregon’s rating formula. These schools generally have overall very low achievement and limited growth over time. Additional supports and interventions to make improvements are needed. Focus Schools are high poverty schools that were ranked in the bottom 5% 15% of Title IA schools in the state with a significant achievement gap based on Oregon’s rating formula. These schools need additional support in closing the achievement gap among historically underserved student populations.

Model Schools are high poverty schools that were ranked in the top 5% of Title IA schools in the state based on Oregon’s rating formula. These schools serve as models of successful student outcomes.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Community Members, Last year was the first year schools were evaluated using a new report card. Oregon schools are assigned an Overall State Rating ranging from a low of 1 to a high of 5. The rating is based on factors including achievement and growth in math and reading, test participation rates, and high school graduation. Juniper Elementary received an overall rating of Level 4. Key academic highlights from the 201213 school year include the following: *Overall student growth increased by 24% points in Math and 6% points in Reading. *Schoolwide data showed increased growth from 70.6% to 78.1% in academic achievement.

To support continued student learning at our school, areas of emphasis for the 201314 school year include the following: *Successful digital integration of student handheld devices into all areas of instruction. *Implementation of new master schedule to protect instructional times and interventions resulting in increased student learning. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to working with you this school year. Thank you, Principal | Dan Wolnick

OVERALL STATE RATING HOW ARE STUDENTS AT THIS SCHOOL PERFORMING COMPARED TO THOSE AT OTHER SCHOOLS? The overall state rating is intended to summarize this school's particular successes and challenges. It is based on a combination of up to five factors. Three of these factors come from standardized test scores in reading and math: student achievement, student growth, and the growth of underserved subgroups. Please be aware that this rating is based mainly on highstakes testing and accordingly, represents a limited view of student performance. Other aspects of this report card are designed to put this rating in the proper context. Compared to all schools statewide in 201213, this school is rated as Level 4.

Compared to elementary schools with similar student demographics in 201213, this school’s rating is above average.

Compared to middle schools with similar student demographics in 201213, this school‘s rating is above average.
