2012–2013 HONORARY LIFE AWARD Honorary Life Membership is the highest award DECA can bestow on an individual. Nominees are recommended by a chartered association and then approved by an appropriate DECA committee and the board of directors. DECA is pleased to present a new member of this distinctive and deserving fellowship: MARSHA BOCK | RHODE ISLAND After joining DECA as a high school student, Marsha has been inspiring students and teachers for more than 40 years. Marsha’s passion for DECA began when she was in high school. Discovering DECA brought her classroom to life and offered meaningful connections between her coursework and parttime employment while sparking her own interest in teaching. When she returned to her alma mater as the marketing teacher, she reactivated the DECA chapter to which she originally belonged and embarked on an exciting and rewarding career. Without marketing curriculum, textbooks or financial support, reawakening DECA was a challenge, but Marsha and her students rose to the occasion, incorporating DECA projects into the classroom, opening a school-based enterprise and participating in association, regional and international DECA conferences.
Marsha has served Rhode Island as its chartered association advisor for 27 years. As a member of the DECA Inc. Board of Directors for seven years, Marsha has conveyed a sense of professionalism and commitment on behalf of DECA’s many constituent groups. Having been a DECA member, a chapter advisor, a chartered association advisor, and member of the DECA board, Marsha knows DECA at all levels and brings a deep understanding of DECA’s mission and goals to the organization.
We are pleased to announce Marsha Bock as a recipient of the prestigious 2013 Honorary Life Membership Award.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE MAY 3-6, 2014
CONFERENCE DRESS CODE Professional appearance is an important aspect of the overall preparation of DECA members for the business world. To that end, DECA supports a dress code for its career-based functions that exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism while being non-discriminatory between males and females. DECA’s board of directors has developed the following official dress standards for the International Career Development Conference. Students, advisors and chaperones must follow the dress code. Competitors must wear an official DECA blazer during interaction with the judges. While official DECA blazers are not required during briefing and testing, professional business dress is required. Professional dress should also be worn to all conference sessions including workshops and special meal functions such as luncheons. For a more polished, professional appearance, it is recommended that attendees wear appropriate hosiery/socks.
An official DECA blazer is required to receive recognition/an award on stage.

GENERAL TRAVEL TIPS
• Be alert when checking in. Protect your cash and valuables by keeping them with you. • Never say your room number loudly enough for others to overhear or give it out to anyone you do not know. • Be sure to lock your door when you are in your room as well as when you leave. • Call the front desk to verify any unexpected deliveries or room service. • Do not leave your door open while you are in the room. • Always tell your advisor where you are going.
• Never leave money or valuables in your room; use the hotel’s safety deposit box. • If possible, use traveler’s checks instead of cash. • If you see any suspicious person or activity, notify hotel management. • Ask the hotel for the most direct route to restaurants and shopping. Don’t wander through shortcuts. • Don’t go out alone; travel with at least one other person. There is safety in numbers.
• Do not leave your room after curfew. 61
