2007 Sensazioni di Luce: Atman Un cammino di sensazioni, nato durante un viaggio in India, attraverso la profondità di una cultura fatta di silenzio e di caos, di spiritualità e di miseria. Enzo Catellani ha attraversato con queste sensazioni un periodo buio e grave della sua vita con sempre nella mente e negli occhi una luce che veniva dal niente e che non lo ha mai abbandonato. Quando si è svegliato ha cercato di rendere palpabile e reale quello che aveva vissuto: Atman è diventato luce. Il suo passato e quello che ha costruito fanno parte di lui, ma Enzo Catellani nasce oggi, con il desiderio di intraprendere un cammino a ritroso per riconciliarsi con l’istinto iniziale di fare, per il piacere di creare.

2007 Sensations of Light: Atman A way of sensations, born during a long travel over India, across the depths of a culture made of silence and chaos, spirituality and misery. Enzo Catellani crossed with these sensations a dark period of his life, with always in his mind and eyes a light coming from nothing, which never lost him. When he woke up, he tried to recreate what he had felt: Atman became light. His past and all that he built are still part of him, but Enzo Catellani is born now, with the wish to come back to find again his original instinct to make, just for the pleasure to create.

Eco-Logic Light La quinta fonte di luce creata dall’uomo è la tecnologia LED, che segue le sorgenti luminose ad incandescenza e fluorescenza, alogena e ioduri. E’ una fonte di luce che Enzo Catellani ha interpretato con essenzialità e per la quale ha creato e brevettato nuove applicazioni che gli hanno permesso di esprimere forme e concetti senza limiti. Ama definirla “ecological” in quanto riduce le emissioni di CO2, ottenendo un notevole risparmio energetico. Non ha costi di manutenzione e la sua durata è pressoché illimitata. La sua nuova collezione nasce così e, a parer suo, questo è già sufficiente per amarla. La sorprendente scoperta è la qualità della luce che emana: una luce zen, meditativa e rilassante che abbassa, oltre ai consumi, la tensione nell’ambiente illuminato. E' una luce lunare e magnetica della quale non si puoi fare a meno. E' capitato a Enzo Catellani e a tutti quelli che hanno osservato e vissuto questa luce.

Eco-Logic Light The fifth source of light is LED technology, which comes after incandescent, fluorescent, halogen and metal halide lamps. Enzo Catellani has interpreted this light source in its essentiality, creating and patenting new applications, which have allowed him to express new shapes and concepts without limits. He likes calling it “ecological” because it reduces CO2 emissions and allows an energy saving. LED has no maintenance costs and it has a long life. His new collection is born in this way and Enzo Catellani thinks that this is enough to love it. What is absolutely surprising is the quality of the light: a Zen, relaxing and contemplative light, which reduces energy consumption as well as the tension in the space. It is a lunar and magnetic light and you can’t live without it, as happened to Enzo Catellani and to everyone who has seen this light.

I - PostKrisi, una collezione che apre un nuovo capitolo. Per la prima volta

Fil de Fer There are objects which cross the time and in the time remain. Objects taken up in our mind, which immediately connect with the artist. This is what sends us the little, medium, big sphere of twisted wire with many little points of light inside, specially when this sphere is supported by a big iron or steel shape, which obliges you to look higher and higher, up to the light. This is the sense of Fil de Fer, which has been thought and realized by Enzo Catellani more than ten years ago. It has been technologically renewed, with high power and low consumption LEDs, according to the new standards, but I am sure that Fil de Fer will stay in our mind, forever. The flexibility of the material allows us to manufacture different models for special items, like the pending lamp "Nuvola", that is available in three sizes, or "Corrimano" , which follows the wall up to 240/200 cm. There are also two wall lamps: "Techa", available in a length of 120 cm or 240 cm, and "Cascata", whose light leaves a surprising and charming trail of light on the wall.

Serie Fuori Serie - Triennale Design Museum - Milan

The restaurant-cafeteria of the prestigious Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the largest art and design museum in the world, is illuminated by 4 special Fil de Fer lights with a diameter of 2 metres. The Café is located in the V&A's original refreshment rooms, the Morris, Gamble and Poynter Rooms. This Café was the first museum restaurant in the world. It is furnished the same style as the museum, which is characterised by modern design and quality craftsmanship.

Catellani & Smith is participating in "Serie Fuori Serie", an exhibition being held at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, with a special Fil de Fer installation with a diameter of 200 cm. The exhibition illustrates the contemporary landscape of Italian design, tracing a path that from experimental research arrives at mass markets using both handcrafted materials and advanced technology, and seeking to promote a broader concept of design, seen as a tool for working on reality.

Lederam I would have never thought that technology could compete with nature! I must change my mind looking at the strange ‘total eclipse’ manufactured by Enzo Catellani using a small microchip – a LED. If I close my eyes the effect is the same and, even emotionally, this light is able to produce the same feeling as if I were looking at the moon. It is a collection realized to save energy. It offers LED technology at mains voltage without the need for a transformer and is also dimmable. It is a 17W LED module with an output of 1.300 lumen, which corresponds to approximately 80W of the old linear halogen lamp. Using several modules, 5.000 lumens can be achieved, which is equivalent to approximately 250W of the old halogen bulbs. These LEDs have a life of approximately 30.000 hours and can be replaced. Therefore, in addition to having a long life and achieving savings in energy, they also have lower maintenance costs. It is a highly technological and minimal collection, completed with thin discs made with copper leaf, a warm, soft colour, which could be said ‘the gold of the third Millennium’. And just looking at one of these objects composed by two overlapping and moveable discs that I immediately thought to the moon. The collection includes three wall lamps, two ceiling lamps and two floor lamps.
