The Neude Squared Embark on a spiraling trip into the heart of Utrecht, follow the signs that escaped the grid of planning.

THE NEUDE SQUARE I’ve tried to borrow the perspective of the Thinker on a Rock to analyze the current situation at the Neude Square. In my wondering -about who the thinking Hare represents- several options came to my mind being the most outstanding the spirit of the [authorities of?] the city of Utrecht, or that of the Neude Square. The Thinker is sitting at a strategic corner of Utrecht’s most central square, the Neude, separated from it only by his elevated position and by Potterstraat. From there he seems to be listening to everything that is going on (isn’t that what the big ears are for?). He climbed to such a rock because he felt he needed to take certain distance to ponder things that happened on that square (the past) and to think on things about to come (the future)... Did he really? I think he, actually, just pretends to be in sober meditation -battling with a powerful mental struggle- but there is something in his looks and in the very fact of being sitting there that tells there is something irreverent, ironic and actually humorous about his intellectual activity. “Should the Neude become the catering terrace of Utrecht? Or should it be the House of Europe!? Maybe it should just turn into another mall. Or it should rather become the Cultural Capital of Europe?” The Thinker on a Rock lets his thoughts run freely as the crowds come and go… Maybe he’s already heard too much… In the meantime he enjoys spending his time in idleness, waiting for things to come.
