John R. Leonetti, ASC John R. Leonetti was born on July 4th, 1956 to film legend Frank Leonetti, known for his work as electrician/gaffer on THE WIZARD OF OZ and SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN. John joined the camera union at age 18 and went on to become one of the youngest directors of photography of his time on the TV series, TALES FROM THE CRYPT, where he achieved four Cable Ace nominations for Best Cinematography. Throughout his career as a cameraman, John had the great privilege to work with directors - Coppola, Spielberg, Tom Hanks, James Cameron, and exclusively with John Frankenheimer. In 1994, John helped put New Line Cinema on the map as a studio with the hit films, THE MASK and MORTAL KOMBAT. Both films were so successful that New Line asked John to direct MORTAL KOMBAT: ANNIHILATION in 1995. The film took #1 in the box office opening weekend. In 2006, John teamed up with director James Wan (SAW) to shoot 5 films including INSIDIOUS and THE CONJURING. It was John’s amazing performance on THE CONJURING that brought so much attention to his unique and classic shooting style that New Line asked him to direct ANNABELLE, a prequel to the movie. John helped develop the script with writer Gary Dauberman, then shot the movie with a budget around $5 million. ANNABELLE made over $37 million on the opening weekend and went on to gross over $256 million worldwide; becoming the highest grossing horror film and one of the most profitable films of 2014. Most recently, John directed an episode of SLEEPY HALLOW for FOX television. Currently, John is in post after directing the feature film, WOLVES AT THE DOOR (Charles Manson/Sharon Tate murders) for New Line Cinema. Additionally, 20th Century Fox has picked up rights to the graphic novel TAG with Leonetti attached to direct the feature.
Peter Safran, Producer & Owner of The Safran Company Peter Safran is the President and founder of The Safran Company, a leading Hollywood production company. Safran’s eye for talent and diligent work ethic have made for a prolific body of work that includes mega-hit, THE CONJURING, for New Line Cinema directed by James Wan, written by Carey and Chad Hayes, and starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as the real-life paranormal investigators Ed & Lorraine Warren. Safran continued to produce the juggernaut franchise with the recent box office success, ANNABELLE, a spin-off of the supernatural thriller, which earned over $250 million worldwide since its October 3, 2014 opening, making it one of the genre’s biggest earners of 2014. Safran is currently in post-production on four films: THE CHOICE, which is the feature adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling novel of the same title, which will be released in February 2016 by Lionsgate; Safran re-teamed with the director and writer of ANNABELLE, John Leonetti and Gary Dauberman, to make THE WOLVES AT THE DOOR for New Line; MINE, the contained psychological thriller starring Armie Hammer, is in the final stages of post; and in June, Safran wrapped THE BELKO EXPERIMENT written by James Gunn and directed by Greg McLean for MGM. The next chapter in THE CONJURING series, THE CONJURING 2, is currently in production. The 48 Hour Film Festival Inner-City Filmmakers says it best: “Action speaks louder than words!”
Goal: To sharpen communication, time-management, filmmaking and life skills. Our Mission: To provide an ongoing forum whereby ICF alumni can challenge themselves and each other; to explore, develop and fine-tune their filmmaking skills.
Synopsis: Filmmaking teams have just one weekend to make a short film. All
creativity, including: writing, shooting, editing, post sound, viz efx and titles must occur in a 48 hour period - beginning Friday, October 23rd to Sunday, October 25th, 2015. At our Kick-Off Party, each team draws specific requirements from a “Magic Hat” that includes: Genre, Weapon, and Line of Dialogue that MUST appear in that team’s film. The films are SHORT; they must be a maximum of 5 minutes, including titles. Teams are responsible for their cast, crew, locations and anything else needed to make their film. ICF equipment is available on a 1st come, 1st served basis. Industry Judges view and vote on each of the completed films. The scores are tallied and the film with the highest score wins the “Grand Prize”. During the screening at CAA, the audience votes after each film and these votes are tallied, too. At the end of the evening, both the “Audience Award” and the “Grand Prize” are announced and presented to the teams with the highest scores.
