ir play from radio stations provide the platform for a song to turn into a hit and the type of songs played by radio DJ’s determine how highly ranked a radio station is. A radio show and its DJ makes a hit out of a new single/the type of music played on a radio show determines the number of listeners a radio show gains or loses. From which ever point you look at it the relationship between house music and radio is of a complementary nature, DJ’s need hit singles to play on shows and radio serves as a platform for producers to market their production. It’s really the way Radio DJ’s introduce a song and rave about just how great it is before we even get a chance to listen it that just gears your interest in it into over-drive, or at-least that’s how I got hooked onto house music.

14/

/JULY 2013

Through listening to DJ’s like,DJ Khabzela, Iggy Smallz, Fresh, Oskido to armed with the power of the air waves these guys played a huge role in growing SA House Music into what it is today, back in the day when you would always get into trouble at school for your constant late coming when really it was never your fault that one of your favorite songs always plays as you about to leave for school. From when house music started radio has always played a vital role in its growth. It’s the DJ’s with a sincere passion and dedication for the music that form a vital link when it comes to connecting the listener with other listeners, producers with other producers and building the bridges for producers and listeners to come together and appreciate the common

pleasures gained from listening to House Music. With the passing of time and evolution of technology change was introduced, common radio practices where shredded off for the systematic introduction of the latest radio technologies with every year that passed the gap between what was and what now is become more visible separating what was known as radio in the 80’s/90’s to what it’s known as today, and not all change is necessarily for the better too much change led to compromise and resulted in making radio less common from what it used to be. From where tangible radio lost it, internet radio picked up, and it seems that internet radio is becoming more and more popular by the day. We don’t care the medium, we want Radio to Live on, Live on, Live on, Live on. To the last moment!

ake two House Music giants add a feminine touch with a lady that knows her House music, and what do you get? A MADD house!

You get one of the biggest radio shows in SA “THE URBAN BEAT” on Metro FM. This for me is by far the best house music show on radio currently, but nothing less was expected from a combination of Vinny da Vinci, Christos & Zeal. One team that’s stuck to their guns and kept it real when it comes to be content in the show, from the music played to the guests featured you are guaranteed a more than filling serving of your preferred taste in house music. Well that is of course if Deep House is more your scene, it’s just a pity radio shows don’t come with a doggy bag option. A platform for aspiring DJ’s and producers to gain recognition as the show also has a feature for up-coming talent to show case their stuff to a national audience. The show consist of the latest in house news, local and international mixes, something Jazzy, Soul-full & Deep I doubt you could find a better way for a house head to spend a Friday night indoors. As for as house music radio shows are concerned THE URBAN BEAT gets the DEEP MAG legend salute.

YES OH Yeah!!!!! Radio most certainly has a bright future. From when I was a kid radio was my source of imagination and my only source of entertainment. The enlightening part was not even knowing how my favorite radio Dj looked like. How silly and fun was just creating your own image. Soon every musician in the 80's relied on air play to up the sales of albums. The most exciting thing was definitely the enticing intro before a song was played. Now perceptible radio has faded. I rely on my Dstv to listen to my favorite house jams, and on my little phone which makes it so easy for me to listen to my radio on the go. Yes there can be easy access to get songs on your phone or more music videos to keep us occupied. With all the social networks people are busy, but no one is too busy to turn on the radio while stuck in heavy traffic of Johannesburg, the little guy in Transkei solely relies on radio as a form of entertainment. The little girl who listens to her favorite station simply because she one day wants to sound like her favorite radio personality. So many Careers have boomed from radio and yes it remains consistent. From a cassette player with radio, to Dvd player, to TV with radio and now our smart phones and internet radio......its safe to say that radio has evolved with the times and no matter what technology it still remains dominant for our entertainment. NO

The answer to this complex question is a sad and sobering, no. lets face it people. The world is changing. We’ve moved from vinyl to tapes to cd’s to mp3 files on phones in less than 25years. We’ve gone from watching 4 channels with our bunny ears aerials to collecting series on our laptops and watching the shows we want on YouTube. We shop online and don’t even go outside to kick a ball no more, we have an app for that. We’ve stepped into the era of choice, options, variety and freedom, possibly the era of destructive freedom. With that freedom comes the constant need for ones needs to be satisfied and value added with every experience. And sadly- against the odds of YouTube, Sound cloud, hundreds of Android and IOS apps, thousands of artist Podcasts and millions of music websitesradio is losing the battle of adding value to listeners. A few years ago, maybe you could’ve gotten away with being a radio station that caters for a niche market- like YFM in the past catering for more Kawaito and House market. Today Sipho listens to Dubstep and Sarah needs a dose of Deep House every day. Radio stations are fighting diversity, waging war with consumers who know what they want to hear and when and why. In this every evolving music market, radio has no way to fight this war. Embracing the technology by having apps and online radio stations will prolong this wailing arts’ life span. But the future of music has made no place for radio, but I sure do hope I’m wrong. I fell in love with house music because radio taught me how to, I hope my children get to experience the power of the air waves and the special connection of frequencies that play the sound track to our lives. VOCAL ST Nothende Madomo South Africa’s very own songbird. Born in Mafikeng she knew at a very early age that music was her love and she’d do anything to pursuit it. She wrote her first song at age 11 and soon she made her way to competitions. First the Idols where she made it to the top 100 and the Coca Cola Pop Stars. It was the soundtrack of Gazlam ‘OOH’ produced by Kaybee that brought this amazing women to a wide spectrum of listeners. From being in a Hip Hop group and being a HIV/AIDS ambassador led by the US embassy, Nothende then started to work hard as a solo artist. She was part of opening acts for being artist such as Tamia, Kanye West and India Arie to name a few and a backup vocalist for SA musicians like the likes of Lira. Nothende is the master of all genres, this is seen by her works with different musicians all music. Her Debut album #LoveLight got international play and did amazing. 2010 she also collaborated with Lulo Cafe on vocals and did the track that had S.A pumping and still is a classic ‘I wana Love you’. The house music lovers started to recognise this voice and its all because of how she moves from RnB to House with Finesse. Her urban/soul sounds have smooth melodies which give audiences a positive elavation of body and mind. From the success of her Album LoveLight, Rebirth we wish this songstress success on Braveheart.

DEEP ANCESTRAL R

ewind, play, pause...and let’s find out more about the talented Deepancsestral who’s devoted his life and time to deep house music. This is one of the guys who have never compromised his sound to please the masses but has always stood firm and never loses himself, he has always been “Deep” like the first four letters of his alias, he is not only a dj but also a radio presenter on the campus radio station called “Voice Of Wits “where co-produces and presents a show called House Of Rhythm. Deepancsestral is certainly one of the most talented dj’s I’ve witnessed on the decks and in studio, with such talent I can’t see how the future won’t be bright. Read the interview and found out more about Deepancsestral.

DM :: who is Deepancsestral and where does he come from? D :: Deepancestral, real name Sifiso Gcabashe is the oldest of 5. I was raised in the west of JHB in a small town called Sunrise park extension 1 ,studies archaeology and anthropology @ wits University where I’m currently hosting a Radio show- House Of Rhythm (HOR) every Sunday from 6-9pm on Vow FM .Even though my first love is underground house ,my influences range from Afrobeat ,Jazz ,fusion ,funk ,disco breaks , dub and African rhythm and hymns as a result my taste and style of house is very musical and unique .started listening to house music religiously after hearing Rodamals Musica Feliz in 2001 -2002 after that I had to get a bigger taste of this thing called House this is the same song that made me want to become a dj .I didn’t become a dj for fans or to be popular, I became a dj to educate people about great music 30/

/JULY 2013

and I’ve become popular for that DM :: where does the name Deepancsestral come from? D :: My dj name is a sort of complicated story, as with many other djs I had a dj alias before ,The deep .when is started out I played a lot of Deep house and ancestral house influenced greatly by guys such as Louie Vega ,Boddhi ,Ame , Manoo ,hendrik Schwarz and host of other guys .however If I was to grow my brand as a dj I then would have to find a name that represented what I’m about and there was already a dj called djDeep who was more famous and had been in the game longer I needed uniqueness and originality .My friends and those who associated with me threw names around it had to be a name that represented the style of music I played which was very musical with very live element to it from the vocals to the beats and my love of song all must be representative via my

name .guys would always say my sets are so deep I could wake ancestors I Also liked that eventually I decided to fuse my three strongest house styles ,1 Deep 2Ancestral (Dance ritual )3 Soul .I then became known as deep ancestral Soul ..I loved it used it everywhere and people found it interesting. However when I started radio and other projects I felt that my name was a bit long and anyway people where very aware of my name and skills so I shortened it making it easier to use and fit into posters lol ahaha especially for people to remember .and now I’m Deep Ancestral DM :: tell us about how you started? D :: its really a funny story , when I started High school I was very much a Hip Hop head very much into my underground Hip Hop ,I knew of this House thing but I didn’t really like it .until I was in grade 9 a friend played me a song and asked what I though, the song was Musica Feliz by then Rodamaal I was blown away ,something in me moved the pace was right the beat was perfect and funny enough it was awakening something in me and this thing began to burn I needed to hear this song and many others like it again in fact I had to share the song don’t care how .I started to listen out for tracks and especially Vocal house never cared for anything on radio always the stuff on peoples phones and personal playlists ..I began to build my own collection ,but the need to let people hear what music I had and enjoy it with me was always there .it is this same reason I started taking an

interest in deejaying ,my friends who had started messing with deejaying managed to convince one of their cousins to loan us his Stanton cdjays and we practiced every day for hours taking turns and I really struggled for months but when I finally got I felt and it was bliss everything came together and my friends couldn’t believe what I was doing and how I was doing it and the music I had ...from then I have never stopped collecting and deejaying ,never will I stop . DM :: what inspired you to be a deep house dj? D :: I always avoid being called a “deepHouseDj” I believe I’m more of an artist my sets are created in a way to tell a story beginning, body and end everything I connected .every song is special every note is key every voice in the song and lyric must be heard .and I would never mix too many songs at once I respect every song every element .So I chose to play Underground House. because I may not say much but damn my music will speak to you .so I chose this genre so I could teach people about house music in its purest form and just share with people .and its more of a lifestyle a religion in some sense and I’m hooked lol .I don’t see my life without it as corny as that may be. Hence my radio show: House of Rhythm. DM :: who would you say played a big role in making you choose the choice if genre you play? D :: Too many guys to mention however there’s a special few masters At Work ,Gilles Peterson ,The matherfunkaz DEEP MAGAZINE/

/31

Luisito Quintero ,Blue six ,Joe Clausell ,Manoo ,Kerri Chandler Atjazz ,Reel People ,Ame ,Hendrik scharz ,Jazztronik , fela Kutin yaruba soul ,osunlade ,Boddhi satva damn there’s too many Franky Feliciano, Simbad ,RAS yoh haai Imperial ..These are just a few DM :: tell about your show on Voice of wits, how it started and the process it took for you to become 1 of the dj’s there? D :: When I was doing my second year @ university I had this interest about a campus radio station but I had never really heard of anything so I went around to see if it existed. For some odd luck vow had been shut down for some years however they were to renew the contract under new management and even better resources and I was in luck I met up with Mike our current station manager ,he told me about the process and how interviews would be held ..Did my interview even though I had auditioned to be a presenter they thought I was better suited for production and work my way up to presenter. Which I did .I had a plan already from day one a House specialist show focusing only on underground house prepared a proposal with my partner Djsoso we pitched and it was approved .the warehouse would be the name of the show as we started off with it but due to some unforeseen situation and complications with some other radio station we had to change our name .It was hard but we bounced back with an even better name HOR (House Of Rhythm ) .three years in we are what we are an amazing house music show based mainly in teaching people about house music and always playing only the most exclusive house songs from all parts of the world .we are currently in a plan to introduce our live mix show ..But great things are happening DM :: where do you see HOR 5years from now? D :: The show will definitely be on a bigger radio station and streamed live on some TV channel. We plan on increasing our reach and connecting with more labels

32/

/JULY 2013

and growing the brand beyond just the radio show and event, but a club and brand even a record label and school.but most of our plans are still in motion we are def going to break into the international market .spread our influence even further DM :: which radio show would you say is the best on radio at the moment? D :: The urban beat Is by far the best especially since its in the same space as we are .but a lot of podcasts and internet radio shows are doing really well and have some great support .like Deepa Shades ,Casamena Radio hour etc DM :: who would you say is the best radio dj for you and why? D :: I don’t really follow radio djs I’m more about the music rather thn the people playing it .dj Fresh is very good and Roger Good is also very good hes energy is the same in person . DM :: what words of encouragement do you have for aspiring dj’s and radio dj? D :: Never sell out stick to your sound and style practice and do your research about your craft ,it’s about the music not you ,it’s about passion not money .yes you can make a living as a dj however I’d advice to have a plan B .always take it seriously but enjoy it DM :: how would you summarise your show in a few words? D :: House Of Rhythm is a house specialist show Hosted by myself and Djsoso ,the show is live every Sunday from 6-9pm on 90.5 vow FM .The music focus is underground house ,withe aim to cover all the its sub genres we don’t play anything main stream .we have a deep ,soul ,lounge new jazz ,vocal ,dance ritual nudisco and funk on the show .the show is linked to a number of international and local labels and djs making it easier for us as a show to be able to always be in the forefront of the game .we also host a monthly event called house of rhythm just so as to entertain people with the same music we play on the show but with more djs and on a interpersonal level .house of rhythm is a house music revolution .

Q&A with DJ Shimza

Radio has taken my name and exposed it to the world and I’m so grateful for that

DEEP MAGAZINE/

/35

DM :: Who is Dj Shimza and where does he originate from? S :: DJ Shimza, full names Ashley Kholofelo Shimi Raphala 24 year old born and raised in Tembisa Gauteng DM :: You could’ve been many things, what triggered your love for house music? S :: All the Yfm house music shows back then and my whole family that constantly played a lot of different types of music DM :: Describe your sound?. S :: My sound is mainly tribal with a bit of soul, anything that can get me moving DM :: You known for being on many competitions early in your career, how important are such opportunities for budding Dj’s? S :: These opportunities are important because they firstly give you experience because you are constantly around different people who play in different styles and its good because you learn from fellow competitors. For me it’s about learning how to be different so you stand out from the rest, these opportunities are also important because they also help with your PR DM :: As a successor of most of these competitions, what do u think judges should focus on when judging? S :: They should look at how djs stand out from the others, originality, work ethic, EQing and most importantly Timing DM :: You joined the Soul Candy Institute of Learning. How important is learning in crafting your talent? S :: It’s important because you are exposed to information that is not available on the streets which gives you an advantage DM :: How did Soul Candy influence your Business mindset? S :: It influenced it in a very positive way because I was around very business minded people who were always willing to share ideas and information DM :: Shizmusic Production is a solely owned company, any challenges? S :: Not really as I am still working on it where the only artist is SHIMZA lol who the company is concentrating on DM :: Your ‘One Man Show’ is known for its huge success, how did it come about? S :: Basically the idea came about when supporters were getting irritated by the fact that I got to gigs, played for an hour and left so it triggered them to asking me to perform longer, I thought about it and decided that I was going to have a night once a year where my people could come

and have that experience which was me djing alone the whole night. I chose Christmas Day because I was hardly booked on that day and after people spend Christmas with their families, they don’t have anything to do after that. After the first one I decided to do it as a charity drive where I spend time with orphaned children during the day as they have no family’s to spend Christmas with then use some of the proceeds made from the event to buy them school uniforms and stationary for the next year. DM :: Djs are known for being good with the ladies. :) are you perhaps in a relationship? S :: Sorry but this has nothing to do with my music carrier DM :: You’ve played on great platforms, with phenomenal Dj’s, who has been the most influential in your career? S :: DJ Black Coffee because I think we slightly share the same vision DM :: This month in our issue we focus on Radio and house music. How has radio shaped your path? S :: Radio has taken my name and exposed it to the world and I’m so grateful for that DM :: Do you see radio being relevant for house music lovers in the future? S :: With no doubt, that’s where the consumer gets to listen to new music and familiarize themselves with any Change of sound that happens DM :: Having traveled the world. Name a few of your favorite countries you’ve played at and why? S :: I’ve been to a couple of them but Angola is the best so far after South Africa mainly because they are new in this house music thing and they appreciate the South African sound DM :: That one track that is your classic? S :: Nick Holder Summer days DM :: What is Dj Shimza currently cooking? S :: Working on my album that will be out when I feel I’m ready and planning my annual one man show DM :: tell us about the dj search competition?would you say it played a role in your success as a dj? S :: Yes it has because I learned from it and I was exposed to the whole country which made me push even harder so that I didn’t fall off after I won that competition Thank you very much :)

“AWUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! DJ Black Coffee… You Rock My World!!! Welcome to the show!!!”

I

hope I was able to thoroughly translate the energy and state of euphoria I’m typically in when I open my show with a song like that. That’s what House does to a DJ. Early to mid-90s House Music started to infiltrate our airwaves and did so even stronger with the inception of stations like Yfm and pioneers such as Khabzela. It was like magic on the radio – the way he’d speak on the song, about the song, it sounded good, it sounded right. To date, no black radio station [even some white] has a line up without a House Music show. Why is this? Before I tell you my personal opinion as a jock, I spoke to a number of consumers of House through radio.

42/

/JULY 2013

I asked them what why they continued to follow the genre on the radio and this is what they had to say: Melody Miya: “House Music is a new language amongst all races, places and phases. It makes us dance, cry love and grow. Radio is the theatre of the mind and House is the director.”

Yolisa Jafja: “I guess I do so for the enjoyment between me and the dj, (kinda like how one would share a listening experience with a friend). Also, one never knows who’s behind certain songs so radio helps in that regard. Lastly, requests. House is not easily accessible, so it’s great to call in and request songs”

Phumzile Nkutha: “The House sound fits every genre, in a sense that you can remix a pop, rock, rnb song and come up with a Housey product. I also love the mixture of vocals and dope beats. So after listening to a good topic on the radio, booooom good music enhances my feelings”

BooGz Maseko: “I listen to Urban Beats and I Believe for my dose of soulful deep House and I tune into My House for my dose of progressive House and Sound Revival to get my groove on. I’m also introduced to my international acts on these shows that I follow”

Numzi Nkohla: “I continue to follow House on the radio because that’s where I get to hear the new kids (both local and international). Radio helps me keep up with this forever growing genre.”

T

here you have it, the listeners have spoken. There’s so much to consume in this genre and radio continues to be the only medium that can offer all that House has to offer in just one show. The mixes, remixes, new music, local + international collaborations, gigs, the list is endless. Another thing that entices the listener is the fact that the genre still possesses that sacred scarcity of unpredictability and that “feed-and-deprive” factor whereby the listener knows that YOU and only YOU have a particular song for that time being; no internet or friend has it, it’s just your radio station that feeds them then deprives them to ensure that they’re back again. In a nutshell, House Music, much like Hip Hop, is a culture, one that is more about the music over anything else and radio wants to be a part of that culture HOUSE IS A NATION AND RADIO WANTS TO BE PRESIDENT! Lastly, House Music is feel good music that carries many a messages, from “get up and dance” to “I still love her” and conveys them in a way that has you feel good ultimately. That said, the genre becomes the perfect tool to having a hyped show and a hyped show means satisfied listeners that feel good & that’s radio’s mandate. I play a lot of House on my show (some unauthorized hahaha!), and more often than not I get “WOW GREAT MUSIC”, “Please rock us with those nice jams!” over, “what a lovely link”. Radio continues to endorse House because House continues to drive radio -Lusky Nkohla

Title: Let’s Play House Record label: Artist: Funk Deepstar A 13 track thriller guaranteed to keep your ears glued to the speakers and your body lost in the rhythm, the opening track “Piano in The Dark” just sets the tone for me and makes the promise of good things to come. Surely enough this promise is kept as you weave through the album with each track begging for an encore you are blessed with something the Jazz lover in you, with a soulful twist that encourages you to move a little and just to ensure you don’t run out of breath you allowed a break to sit down and tap your foot as the deep tunes kick in. There is a little something for all Jazzy, Deep & Soulful appetites if a copy is not already in your position it’s highly recommended to go get one.

VACCA MATTA

C

elebrities, socialites, cool kids, hot guys and girls, eye-wateringly expensive drinks, bouncers in suits and ties… yes, this is an ‘elite’ Monte casino club in all its glory. If you feel cool enough to be part of this club scene then Vacca Matta is for you but if you balling on a tight budget it would be best you stay at home or go elsewhere.

DEEP MAGAZINE/

The Venue

Vacca Matta and the surrounding area is a hive of activity for clubbers, the wealthy, big spenders and beautiful women, particularly miniskirt/freakum dress wearing, “dance all night type of ladies. And so 55 Club has made a smart move to throw open its doors inside Monte casino. And yes, it’s everything you could ever want from a ‘celebrity’ club of its calibre. The booth is in front on the dance floor making sure celebrity dj’s are always facing the crowed as they drive them crazy .red carpet at the entrance Presumably this is so you are sucked into the belief that this place is only for the beautiful people. However, there are some features that do set this club apart. Grey Couches in the VIP with stylish suede fabric. Red round lamps looking like disco balls,3 bars in the VIP room and two in the dance floor, not forgetting the VIP rooms that are built upstairs with the walls facing the dj booth from upstairs, with well decorated patterns inside and a silver table just to put your expensive bottle on, It’s a masterstroke of design genius and (is actually kind of cool) it’s an excellent display of class.

The Atmosphere

Don’t expect to rock up to Vacca matta and be let in on a whim without paying a price .This is a club with a strict door policy – if you have cash to splash and have made the effort to get dressed up, only then do you stand a chance. If you don’t fancy your chances then get your name down on a guest list ahead of time and turn up early before queues start to form. Rest assured bouncers will never take pity on you if you are caught wearing shorts or a hat as a guy. Even then, though there’s no guarantee of a fun time. This is a place that attracts celebrity

greats like dj fresh, euphonik, lulo cafe, black coffee, shimza and many more. After all, If you do manage it, the standard ticket fee R100 per person, although you may end up paying more or less than this depending on the mood of the bouncer.

The Music

What else could you expect from a place like Vacca Matta than the usual mix of house music, electro, hip hop and dub step, popular dance and chart tunes from the likes of Ganyani, andtira Booty-shaking tunes to get bums

STYLE

on the dance floor – well anything that gets the crowed dancing.

could work out as much more cost effective.

The Drink.

The Last Word

If the thought of paying R50 for a Mojito doesn’t make you crawl on your knees and cry then this club is for you. Vacca Matta takes the typical route for this type of venue, opting for expensive prices that may leave you agog. If you get table service then keep an eye out for that service charge, too. With shots coming in at R30 + and up it may be worth splashing out the serious cash for a bottle in the region of R1000, If it’s to be shared between a group it

Vacca Matta is a great example of a celebrity-led, fashion-conscious, high-design venue that takes average living to great heights. If you like partying like king then this is the place for you, For everyone else, there’s always the ‘’shabeen’’ or tavern. Sent via my BlackBerry from Vodacom - let your email find you! WA R

The war between Sony Playstation and Windows Xbox has taken a whole new turn with the PS4 drawing battle lines. With a lower price, more powerful hardware and a popular stance against DRM put it ahead of its main rival after the first hurdle. Compared with the competition, we predict a PS4dominated future might take over all console gaming. With the official PS4 release date currently pencilled in for mid-November 2013, DEEP MAG previews one of the most eagerly anticipated must have gadgets.

PS4 CONSOLE DESIGN The console looks great, with a design that looks like someone in the PS4 design team got just a wee bit lazy and decided to reinvent the PS2. It’s got the strong parallel lines and square shape but totally more advanced with a lot more . The console spews supper cool and it’s fairly compact too - measuring just 305x53x275mm, less than an estimated 343x80x263mm for the Xbox One. It has a built-in power supply, so there’s no external power brick to deal with and the ports on the rear are kept to the necessities: HDMI, optical S/PDIF, two USB3 and a mysterious AUX port. For PS3 users there’s some relief, if you owned one, you’d know how much space it takes up. So the nice guys at Sony made the PS4 fairly slender, with air vents on the rear, which suggests the use of one or more small fans. The use of smaller fans unfortunately means the console might be slightly louder and whinier than the upcoming Xbox One.

PS4 STORAGE AND BLU-RAY The PS4 includes a 500GB traditional hard disk. Sony continue to provide the option to swap drives as you wish, with compatibility for standard 2.5in models, so we should be able to add our own SSD in the future. Bluray is a must for PS4, the PS3 came a little too early for Sony to comfortably include the hardware, but it still pushed ahead with it at great cost. These days, Blu-ray is one of the defining parts of the PlayStation brand and essential for delivering huge amounts of data for top-end games.

PS4 CONTROLLER DUALSHOCK 4 Play station Joysticks are as good as it gets. The final PS4 controller is a far more refined than the prototype version pictures that have been leaked for months. It's remarkably sculpted, has what appears to be a grippy underside, and every facet is redesigned, while still keeping the iconic PS-DNA layout largely intact. To enter a completely new era of gaming, the joy stick has a small touchpad above the analogue sticks and a coloured light on the front. A completely new feature is that a speaker is also built-in, allowing for local audio effects and a headphone socket too. The button layout has been rejigged, with a new 'Share' button added for quick access to social media, cool huh? I’ll go as far as to say this is the best designed and most innovative Joystick ever made.

SHARED PLAY Besides the remarkable share button on the Joystick for social media. There’s even more sharing to be done, using the new Share button on the PS4 controller, you can instantly grab a section of gameplay using simple edit controls and post it to say your Facebook profile. Live streaming is also possible through the popular Ustream service – so you'll be able to stream constant footage to you fans – presuming you're some kind of pro gamer. The cloud gaming system looks to be impressive, the PS4 will allow you to be able to instantly share and stream video, as well as allow a friend to take over the controls to help out.

PS4 PROCESSOR, GRAPHICS, MEMORY AND GPU It's been widely-known for some time that the PS4 would use AMD technology, both for its CPU and GPU elements – as is the remarkably similar Xbox One. The PS4 looks well equipped to do this. It turns out that the PS4 looks to be significantly more powerful than the Xbox One two areas, Memory and GPU, the reasons for which we’ll explore here. The PS4 will have a whopping 8GB of superfast memory. This fast and unified memory system is seen by Sony as its main advantage against the Xbox One. The PS4 and Xbox One GPUs will use practically identical hardware designs. However, the PS4 GPU looks to have 50 per cent more compute units than the Xbox One. It should be able to run graphically detailed games at 1080p and 60fps, and preferably also cope with the processing overheads of 3D as well. All this is well built to create the best graphics since, well, the PS3.

PS4 PRICE The PS4 will cost £349 in the UK, EUR399 in mainland Europe and $399 dollars in the US. And in our Zuma-inspired shitty South African economy where the US-Zar exchange rate is more than it has been in years. South Africans are looking at a slightly not-too-bad R3990. But if you know gadgets, then you know the Euro and American price estimates usually don’t help us. It’s probably going to run around 5-7 Thousand rand.

The range is out and was first displayed in SA Fashion Week in April so; they are accessible in local boutiques. His collection is about updated classics with a chic, New York sensibility. His personal favourite is what to watch for this season, the trench coat, cotton tuxedo pants and many more prints. His second aim in terms of style is to bring well cut, well made and designed for real life clothes for very type of women. He pleads with the ladies to have fun and make the clothes part of their lives by adding other brands and accessories. In 2008 he won a prestigious Vogue/CFDA Award and says; “It was the best and toughest thing I’ve ever done.” This helped him achieve international attention and recognition from other designers. This gave him an opportunity to make hats for celebrities like Lenny Kravitz, Julia Roberts and Daniel Craig. He has made is mark on the American soil and our turn. He is currently a finalist in another Vogue/CFDA fashion fund competition sponsored by Kate Spade. If he wins this competition he will be rewarded with an advertisement in the September issue of Vogue (US) which is worth $500 000 [R4.5million]. With this urban winter look you can rock and a slim tie and go for an interview, but when you partying you need to keep warm by adding the scurf for a more chilled look. THE SIMPLE G This is the most comfortable look to party in this winter because you warm, stylish but simple. It is a very functional look for a bar or the social club. This type of guy is moderntraditional. The slim cut jeans with the checked shirt can change in to a formal look depending on how it’s worn. He can tuck in his shirt and wear formal cut shoe. It is essential to get the right cut and wash for your jeans beacause those factors makes the jean appropriate for the look. This look has classic colours for winter like the olive green and brown which complement each other. Statement accessories like a well designed watch, ring, belt, bracelet and wallet gives the look a mature feel. You can never go wrong with the backpack bag, it compliments and completes the look.

THE SOLDIER This type of guy is more youthful and trendy. With this look he can attend music concerts and chill at the bar. Yes, it’s winter and we usually wear sunglasses in summer but there are frames that can compliment your winter look like this black rigid cut frame. The goves and cap highlights this look more and the gloves don’t have to be black just as long as they leather and you warm. The camoflauge pants are a slim cut to give the look a more youthful look. The blazer/ coat is mainly for warmth but makes the look masculine which is one of a soldiers quality. The right colour boot matters for this lok because you don’t want to look over dressed for the bar. 76/

For this look you don’t need much of accessories to keep suttle. The gloves to keep warm and the knitted hair band is very trendy and helps complete the look.

THE SEDUCTIVE CHIC You don’t have to look like this for interviews and funerals only but this theme is for the sexy formal girl who attends exhibitions and cocktails parties in winter. She makes a statement without trying to hard. The dress is very slimming and the brocade print gives you a seductive but harmless look. e all know or heard of this beautiful 25-year-old for bubbly persona, most of you know her from the TV programme ‘Live’ on sabc 1. Bonang Matheba has too many things going on of which is also a Radio DJ at YFM 99.2 and hosts the Hot 99 show. She’s not just a pretty face with a charming voice but she is a bright and talented young lady which is what keeps us tuned in. Her sense of style is vibrant colours with delicate fabrics that suit her body shape this is a mixture of sheek and sophisticated. I admire her eclectic sense of style and she has earned her status as a fashion icon. She made her mark in 2008 with her range called ‘Just B’ where she collaborated with Legit store which was a huge success. This amazing woman has featured on various magazine since then, from FHM (SA), ELLE magazine to the 1st issue of Grazia magazine (SA) and has also collaborated with Louise Vuitton. She is currently the face of Gert Johan Coetzee’s Haute Couture. Yes, I know you probably asking yourself how she juggles all of this at once she is just phenomenal. Ms. Matheba has once again made her fans proud, Revlon has announced her as the face as South Africa’s first Revlon Brand Ambassador. She also has a range of handbags out which is called Baby Star, for different types of women. Bonang is a true inspiration not only with her style but her accomplishments. BOOTS CLASSIC ITEMS

We all know genuine leather boots tend to be expensive each Winter/Autumn, that’s mainly because leather is from a cows hide which is expensive to manufacture. The other reason would be that leather boots are a big every cold season. The design and soul obviously has to be functional and still keep a stylish appearance. The important factors that men look for in leather boots, is the price tag, colour and shape. Whereas women assess the length of the boot, the heel, style, colour and how glamorous it is. Well, mainly each folk has a different stroke to style so, this is not always the case. Throughout the years designers have succeeded in occupying every being’s style for men and women. They have introduced styles like ankle boots (big trend currently), knee-high, half boot,

80/

/JULY 2013

high-heeled boot to bulky leather boots for women. For men half boot, ankle to bunk heel boots. This is the reason that leather boots are a classic item because they are being re-designed and re-shaped constantly. You find leather boots in different colours because the hide is dyed to suit that particular style or trending style. Everyone should at least own a pair of genuine leather boots because they never go out of season and they last you for years. Brown and black leather boots are too safe, I challenge you this season to challenge yourself and find a bold boot with a unique colour, double print or even one with studs. Forecasters have proven that leather boots will be in season for the other years to come, so never put it in the trash unless it’s trashed. Check out some boot-iful-buys for him and her.
